Are the women in this world and your own given as much opportunity to defend themselves as the men?

[ she doesn't wait for any answers, giving a humorless snort of laughter at the locket before continuing. it's not a directly related addition to her question, but it's certainly on the same train of thought: ]

Ridiculous that those already holding power are given the privilege of training to the highest levels of their skills, but those most in need of it are left to rely on the protection of others.

Yeah but Morla seems to be way more in charge here, so that doesn't really work huh?

[Lumina shrugs.]

Back on Gran Pulse, the most powerful person in the world was a woman.

That's a fair point, for this world. [ she frowns, chews on her lip. ] But Morla and the Seelie queen have powers of their own that others don't have.

[ she still remembers the power of morla's gaze even through her locket, months ago. ]

Is it the same for this person in your world?

Yup. Light is the savior. She trumps everyone without even trying.

But there are other powerful girls and they are just human.

They sound lucky. [ there's not much nuance to that statement. maybe a little wistful, but she really means it. ] Girls have the strength to be, when they're given the chance to hone their own potential.

[ she drops her chin into a hand ]

This Light. What did she save?

Well there's nothing holding you back here.

Mmmm... She's supposed to save everybody. Gran Pulse is dying. We've got days left.

But I don't know if she did, cause I'm here.

No. Nothing I'll allow to hold me back anywhere, except maybe a lack of things to do.

[ she'll explain if asked, but no need to offer more than necessary. ]

How can one person save everyone? What do you mean, dying?

Dying means dying! The Chaos is almost done, it'll swallow everything up!

Light is trying to save people's souls before the end comes. Amongst other things.

[Lumina giggles at the thought.]

If you think that's clearing anything up, I hope you're not one giving any lessons.

[She huffs.]

The Chaos is... Chaos. It's this cloud of, of emptiness that is destroying everything.

[Except her. But Lumina was made of it so she was weird.]

And it's almost finished. So the world is almost over.

That sounds like an impossible task, for one person to save something so ominous. How is anyone supposed to do that?

Yeah, 'cause it's impossible. You're right. But god is going to make a new world, Light just has to make sure everybody gets there.

Easy peasy, right?

Sounds simple. Just leave it one person to convince an entire world of people to move their families, their lives, to a place that might not even exist. It wouldn't be easier at all to find the source and fight that instead.

Ooh, no no, not like that.

See, everybody has to die first. [Lumina makes a sort of 'tsh, yeah' kind of noise.] Not the best solution, but it's the only we've got.

Everybody has to—what?

[ that definitely has her attention. ]

That's not any solution at all. Who convinced you all of that? [ ...she leans away from the locket, suddenly looking apprehensive. ] Ridiculous. Who has the power to spread those words in a way anyone would believe it?

Oh, it's not a lie. [Lumina giggles.] Believe me, I would know. Buuuuut see, we can't just all magically go to the new world, you know? I mean, I don't think I get to go at all.

[She hesitates, then shakes her head.]

But it's souls going, not bodies. Millions and millions of them! And maybe the last few thousand people still alive too, if they're lucky. Once they die.

[ reflexively, almost unaware she's doing it, katsa uses the hand that's not holding her locket to rub one of her ears. ]

It isn't funny. Death.

Oh, it can be. Anything can be funny if you do it right. Or wrong. [She snickers.]

But I'm not talking about right or wrong. It just...was. Is. I guess was. I've been here a while, Gran Pulse is probably long gone by now.

A mind that laughs at death is something to fear, child.

[ there's a long, awkward silence. ]

I'm sorry. About your world.

If you can't laugh at it, you'll just cry all the time.

Eh. [Lumina offers up a nonchalance she doesn't really feel.] Better it than me, right?

[ katsa shrugs ]

I've seen plenty of death but done little of either. But maybe I'm not the best person to know.

[ she peers closer at lumina ]

It's no easy thing to lose what you know. But you're alive and mostly safe, and that's important.

I was gonna lose it anyway. I guess I was just used to it. [No she wasn't. It terrified her. But now she has a new world, which helps a lot.]

[She giggles though.] Mostly safe, huh? Not counting the war?

[ katsa rolls her eyes ]

Not counting the war. I'd assumed that was obvious, with the decision to put us in it without first asking or explaining. But if there's a shred of truth in what Queen Morla had to say, maybe your world can be saved after all.

[Lumina shrugs.] Maybe, but I doubt it. I mean, Gran Pulse is already pretty much dead. It was a giant, giant world, and there's just a couple islands left!

Probably not worth saving. The royals saved the chocobos though!
