[It hasn't been very long since his last attempt at communication, but this time he actually has something a little more worthwhile. A few questions, and the first one is perhaps an unusual one.

Lusiphur's location is unclear because the background of the video is mostly just darkness. He's wearing a black bandana on his head so that it covers his long elf ears. It's not an attempt to hide his identity other than he doesn't want to obscure any valid responses to his question.]

Do the words Elen sila lumenn' omentievlo mean anything to anyone who's listening?

[He met an Elf at the feast soon after his arrival who said he had family here. Time to seek them out... and hey, his pronunciation of the phrase is actually pretty good.]

Since I seem to be temporarily out of a job, I'm looking for one. Is there anything interesting out there that needs doing? No housework or manual labor. Killing things is a plus. No charity work. I left my resume back in Amyrahl'nn, so to save time just assume I can do whatever it is that needs doing.

If is sounds more like men, that's because I was raised among them. Judged by men's laws. Lived in their cities. I'd never gotten within miles of the Steps-- the Elvin realms-- until recently, and the first time I did, they were going to execute me for something far less grievous. Had they learned I killed the warduke, they would have tortured me for decades before executing me. You'd never hear them call it a sin, but killing another Elf is the worst crime imaginable. Because otherwise we're supposed to be able live forever or some shit. [He'd seen "immortality" backfire once, and once was enough to put him off of the whole idea.]

[Lusiphur didn't know why he was even confessing all this. Time to talk about someone else.]

So if it's such a big deal in your world, why the hell did your family go to war three times?

If your kin are anything like ours... we may be slain, by blade or grief or poison, but time touches us not, Lusiphur. I have seen some three thousand years of the Sun, and my cousin Galadriel almost three times that, by now. We are not truly immortal, I suppose, but our lives are tied to that of our world, and we will endure so long as it does. Even if we do die, we may return after a time, for our spirits are what tie us to Arda, not our flesh.

[ Maglor shrugs quietly ]

Many reasons. We were mad. We were Oath sworn, Oath driven. For love of kin and family. For revenge. But mostly, I think... we were mad. Are still, perhaps.

Poison's never worked on me. Don't know about grief, but I've seen an Elf not die from a terrible sickness and linger-- [Yeah, he's not getting into that in any more detail with you right now.]

[...He's sure you said words after that, but the only thing he picked up on was] Three thousand? And three times that? [His mind is completely blown.] That's close enough to immortality by my count. You guys give Mogré-Ür a run for his money, and he's one of the first born.

[To the last point, he nods. They'd had a small conversation about madness. That part, at least, is something he understands.] Crow, what the hell kind of Oath did you take?

[ An amused quirk of the lips ]

If you wish to speak to one of the First Born, my mother the Lady Nerdanel would count. My grandparents - the first generation, we call them the 'Unbegotten', for they woke full formed in body by the shores of Cuivinien, long ago.

[ He looks away and his voice is tired ]

One unbreakable. Sworn by the highest authority, calling upon the darkest of fates. A stupid one, on reflection, but we were all inflammed that night, by rage and grief.

[He really hopes you don't take this the wrong way but--]

That is a stupid oath.

[perhaps he shouldn't just leave it at that]

I'm not exactly known for my level-headed decisions while grieved or enraged, but there should be some sort of fail-safe to prevent unbreakable oaths. Like having a friend around to stop you from getting married while you're too drunk to see straight.

It was rather [ Maglor sounds very old and tired ]

But when your grandfather lies dead and your father is crazed with grief, speaking words that to your grief and fear filled mind sound like sense...when your brothers all swear the same Oath... [ Maglor shrugs tiredly ]

[Every time Maglor sounds old, it makes Lusiphur feel too young. Even after all the shit he's been through. He doesn't like it... even if it's the truth.

Honestly, on a much smaller scale, Lusiphur knows exactly how that feels. He grows quiet for a really long moment.]

I never had brothers-- probably best that way-- but I probably would have done the same thing. Still stupid though... anything that's unbreakable....

Yes. [ Maglor nods tiredly ]

And now, of course, it is too late. At the least, I have done what I can to guard this world from us. So long as my friend's magic holds, father's jewels are beyond the reach of all in this world, and thethe oath lies dormant.

[He mouths back the word "dormant" then scrubs his face with his hands. This is what he gets for asking personal questions. This is also why he doesn't like to talk about himself.]

Armed with this information, I don't like you any more or less than I did 20 minutes ago. How about next time we touch on this particular topic, we save it for a time when we can get really drunk? I think that'll help. [because now he's thinking about Cassandra which means he'll probably dream about her, and that's the worst]

Although it is strange just how different two groups of Elves can be.

[ Surprise flickers across Maglor's face at that before he can catch it - so few look lightly on his sin, except here in the Drabwurld, but he tips his head thankfully ]

I do not know that it would help, but it could not hurt.

It is, is it not? There are elves of the Drabwurld also, who are different again.

[Everyone has sins, Maglor. If he judged everyone for it, regardless of severity, there'd be a lot more corpses than had already been left behind. And yes, he's going to drop the subject just like that... for now, at least.]

Elves of all shapes and sizes.

[Luckily, Lusiphur doesn't discriminate. He hates everyone equally until proven otherwise. And a few fortunate individuals have already occupied most of his remaining good graces.

He grumps to himself in silence for a moment, trying to figure out his next move.]

[ Maglor nods ]

Different worlds, different cultures, different lives.

[ he says softly and waits patiently for Luse to decide ]

I've met creatures from other dimensions before. Never Elves, but-- [As he muses, he pulls a .45 caliber handgun from its holder and holds it up in view of the locket for Maglor] Fought off an assassin from another plane. He came after me a couple times, so I killed him and took his gun. It's a weapon that's never been seen in my world before or since.

It made me wonder what his dimension is like, since based on this, it's clearly so different from my own. I'd dream sometime about what it felt like for a dimension-jumper to see a brand new place for the first time... never thought I'd actually get to see it first-hand.

[He pulls a cigarette from his pocket and lights it with a quick strike of a match] A fresh start here for everyone, I guess. Could be worse. It's just too bad there's so much magic in the air, the gun doesn't even work anymore.

[ Maglor listens and absorbs Lusiphur's story as he does every tale he is told, learning it and committing he hears to memory.

The gun gets a curious, thoughtful look ] It is not one that I have seen either, although there may well be folk here who have. But if tis the power of the rulers that stops it working... have you been to the Station yet? There is something about that place that sustains things that would not normally function.

That's the third time someone's mentioned that place to me. I haven't been but maybe it's time that I do. From what I hear it's kind of a long walk from here....

It is about three or four weeks by horseback, if you take the slow route. [ Maglor remembers ] A few days, if you have a swift steed and use the Fairy Rings.

Or... [ He tips his head and smiles a little ] You can cheat, as do I. [ He pulls the small silver ring from his right hand to show it ] The Rulers gave me that, when I asked for aid to transport folk. It lets me go to any place I have been by moonlight, and take two others with me.

[He makes a face of disdain at the word "horses". No one will ever see Lusiphur anywhere near those creatures of pure evil and spite. He had a bad experience. Never again.

--but he perks right up at mention of that ring]

That's very helpful. You said the Rulers gave you that? Why?

It is, rather. [ He shrugs and says dryly ]

If you perform your duties, they like to reward us, from time to time. You will know if you pleased them, for one of the imps will come to you and tell you that you may request of the Rulers a boon - within reason, of course. Most of the time I do not bother - but some times the 'task' they assign you are ones that you would have done in any case, and once I decided to ask for something of use, rather than ignoring them.

[The only magic that Lusiphur really had any experience with was teleportation magic. That was a very helpful thing... one that had even saved his life once or twice while working for Sanctuary. To know someone with an object that did that.... well, he hopes that Maglor likes him half as much as Luse likes Mags right at this moment.]

Think maybe I could hitch a ride sometime? I'll trade you favors.

[ Maglor nods ]

You need but ask. Provided I am not busy with other things, it is no difficulty at all. I need not payment - but I will confess that a favor never goes astray.

I don't like owing anything to anyone. I don't do things for charity, and I won't accept it either.

But it's [how to phrase it?] really good to have someone I can trust to ask for a favor like this. I... don't get along with horses. [That's a MAJOR understatement, and it's clear by his tone of voice]

[ Maglor chuckles at that ] Ah now. Maybe you just haven't met the right horse!

But no, I understand. A favor owed it is, then.

If it's up to me, I will never meet the right horse. I would rather walk every damn day of my life.

.... [oh wait] This is why I don't typically make plans with people and places halfway across the map. But I think I may have to cash in that favor sooner rather than later. If you're not busy.

[ Amused forever ]

Ah, as you say! But I am not particularly busy, at present. Where do you need to go?
