[It hasn't been very long since his last attempt at communication, but this time he actually has something a little more worthwhile. A few questions, and the first one is perhaps an unusual one.

Do the words Elen sila lumenn' omentievlo mean anything to anyone who's listening?

[He met an Elf at the feast soon after his arrival who said he had family here. Time to seek them out... and hey, his pronunciation of the phrase is actually pretty good.]

Since I seem to be temporarily out of a job, I'm looking for one. Is there anything interesting out there that needs doing? No housework or manual labor. Killing things is a plus. No charity work. I left my resume back in Amyrahl'nn, so to save time just assume I can do whatever it is that needs doing.

It is one of the languages of the Eldar, Quenya it is called. "A star shines on the hour of our meeting," it means. That was very good though. Many have a great deal of trouble with our tongue and so we typically learn the languages of others.

[She smiles pleasantly, silver hair tucked back neatly behind her ears.]

[Another pretty silver-haired Elf. Really polite and nice and-- Lusiphur really has no idea how to react to decent company. Try to be nice because she is being nice. The really beautiful women don't tend to look at him like that for long.]

I don't know the language, but it was told to me by someone I met when I first got here. Pronunciation really isn't so difficult because it sounds a lot like my parents' native language [a small shudder] but they had no particular fondness for stars.

"Eldar" is a new word. Another name for Elves?

[So long as he remains polite, she doesn't have much reason to change her current opinion of him.]

It is though not commonly used.

I learned it fluently, but we lived in a human city, so it wasn't all that useful. Most days, it's hard enough to communicate even when you're all speaking the same language.

Ah, I understand. A shame, though I suppose it could not be helped. [Quenya had been the more common tongue in Valinor so she really did understand.]

I don't see it as a shame just because the human children were too dumb to learn a second language even though I knew theirs. It would have been a 'shame' never to have learned it at all. My best friend grew up speaking Elvin, and I had an employer who gave orders in it when he was in a hurry. It's a useful skill.

Some languages are easier to learn than others. Many of my people find Westron easier to learn than for Men to learn our tongue. [Not that she's excusing it, however like it that might sound.]

I do not doubt that it is.

[Honestly, he'll just shrug to that. He learned languages just fine, and he'll call others lazy or too dumb to learn, but he appreciates that not everyone has a knack for it... and that it probably is harder to learn Elvin than the other way around]

I'm always surprised when a human knows an Elvin language. I haven't run into many. Most Elves are too secretive with that sort of knowledge-- not that I would have cared-- but humans aren't bothered if everyone knows their business.
