Hullo.
[ And the smiling, freckled face of one Ginny Weasley is all up in this locket. She's clearly outside, soaking in the sunshine as she pulls back so her face isn't filling up the view. ]
There's been loads of talk lately about learning how to fight. Well, fight in other ways, proper swords and all. I reckon I got by all right with my wand during the worm fiasco but I can't deny that's a good thought. Merlin knows I've considered it. [ She laughs. ] Especially since I can imagine my mum in fits over me swinging a sword around.
[ She pauses, then, biting her lip around a thoughtful smile before scrambling forward (carefully) to hang her locket off a low branch of a tree in the bailey. She's sprawled (perhaps rather unladlylike, given the gown she's still getting used to wearing) on a stone bench, a broomstick in her lap, and she looks positively pleased about it. ]
But this is what I'm really excited about. I've had it since the fighting was over, as a gift... [ But she was still a little too banged up to use it. BUT NOW. ] It'd be nice, don't you think, to explore this place a bit? Beyond the castle. I'd love to see what's out there, properly out there.
[ Ginny releases the broom and it rises gently into the air. She touches it fondly. ]
Can't say I fancy flying in a dress, though. Am I allowed trousers here?

Yeah? You're learning here?

I'm certainly trying to! It helps that there are more people here with abilities like mine. With abilities at all, really. It's just... kind of nice, you know? To have people to talk about it with.

I like the sound of yours better, I think. One got into the school the year before I got there, my brother told me all about it. He fought it off with our friends when they were just kids, but it was a mess. Smashed up a bathroom and everything.
[ Well, and almost got them killed, but. You know. Details. ]
And yeah, I know what you mean. We've got a whole magical society back home, but people who haven't got magic... We hide it from them. So to do it out in the open like this, without breaking any laws? It's still a new feeling for me, too.

It's wonderful, isn't it? Strange, but wonderful. My powers were only just made public to the rest of my kingdom, and I know- I know there are a lot of people who are afraid of me, because of it. But there are more people that support me, and have embraced it, really. As much as they can, at least. But here, it's so much easier to relax and enjoy what I can do, instead of worrying who might be afraid of it. People's trust in magic here, it's- more than I ever could have hoped for.

How does it work? Your magic. Could you show me?

[ And she lifts hers to show the locket. ]
It focuses our magic, makes it easier to control and manipulate. And spells, we use those too. Fun charms and conjuring things. Then there's the more practical stuff... Like— [ Ginny glances around the bailey thoughtfully. Then she slides off her shoe and tosses it (quite far, she does have a Chaser's arm on her), calls it back with a Summoning spell. ] Accio shoe. [ And it comes zooming back. ]

That sounds perfect. I would have loved to go to a school to practice magic. Although I can't say the things I can do are very practical. Unless you need your juice chilled. [ a pause ] Actually, right now it's more likely that I would end up freezing the whole chalice, so...

Everything takes practice. We weren't perfect as first years, Merlin, no... Accidentally setting something on fire instead of levitating it, only half-Transfiguring an animal into a bit of furniture so it still had a tail or fur. It's something to study, just like most everything else.
