Hullo.

[ And the smiling, freckled face of one Ginny Weasley is all up in this locket. She's clearly outside, soaking in the sunshine as she pulls back so her face isn't filling up the view. ]

There's been loads of talk lately about learning how to fight. Well, fight in other ways, proper swords and all. I reckon I got by all right with my wand during the worm fiasco but I can't deny that's a good thought. Merlin knows I've considered it. [ She laughs. ] Especially since I can imagine my mum in fits over me swinging a sword around.

[ She pauses, then, biting her lip around a thoughtful smile before scrambling forward (carefully) to hang her locket off a low branch of a tree in the bailey. She's sprawled (perhaps rather unladlylike, given the gown she's still getting used to wearing) on a stone bench, a broomstick in her lap, and she looks positively pleased about it. ]

But this is what I'm really excited about. I've had it since the fighting was over, as a gift... [ But she was still a little too banged up to use it. BUT NOW. ] It'd be nice, don't you think, to explore this place a bit? Beyond the castle. I'd love to see what's out there, properly out there.

[ Ginny releases the broom and it rises gently into the air. She touches it fondly. ]

Can't say I fancy flying in a dress, though. Am I allowed trousers here?

[ yeah, disregarding that last bit. she's still stuck on the wand part. ]

... A magic wand, I'm guessing? [ she's curious as much as she is a little incredulous, though it's not at all farfetched to believe in magic wands. elincia had some kind of magic staff, and it's not like magic doesn't exist in her world. people just don't... use wands. they're unnecessary. magic is bestowed upon them by the gods or something, an innate skill that doesn't require any kind of medium to use. ]

That's right. Focuses your magic, makes it easier to control.

[ Like she's read her mind. She hasn't, of course, they don't do that sort of thing (or at least, she doesn't; Merlin knows she wouldn't want to be in anyone's head after she's had someone in hers). ]

[ clarisse doesn't really understand the concept of having to control magic, mostly because demigods are only allotted with a specific set of skills from their godly parent. their abilities are nothing compared to the vast number of things wizards can do. demigods are still essentially muggles in that regard, except some of them can control water or unlock locks with a swipe of their hand. they're really more like superheroes, with a limited number of powers that make them more dangerous than regular humans. ]

So what happens if you don't use a wand? Everyone goes berserk?

[ She laughs at that, warm and light. ]

Not really, though it depends. Wandless magic can be done but usually it's a really skilled witch or wizard that can manage it... But kids, yeah, they'll do bursts of magic before they're in school if they're scared or excited or angry. [ She lifts her wand, showing it to the locket and the girl in it. ] We get these when we turn eleven years old.
