Hullo.

[ And the smiling, freckled face of one Ginny Weasley is all up in this locket. She's clearly outside, soaking in the sunshine as she pulls back so her face isn't filling up the view. ]

There's been loads of talk lately about learning how to fight. Well, fight in other ways, proper swords and all. I reckon I got by all right with my wand during the worm fiasco but I can't deny that's a good thought. Merlin knows I've considered it. [ She laughs. ] Especially since I can imagine my mum in fits over me swinging a sword around.

[ She pauses, then, biting her lip around a thoughtful smile before scrambling forward (carefully) to hang her locket off a low branch of a tree in the bailey. She's sprawled (perhaps rather unladlylike, given the gown she's still getting used to wearing) on a stone bench, a broomstick in her lap, and she looks positively pleased about it. ]

But this is what I'm really excited about. I've had it since the fighting was over, as a gift... [ But she was still a little too banged up to use it. BUT NOW. ] It'd be nice, don't you think, to explore this place a bit? Beyond the castle. I'd love to see what's out there, properly out there.

[ Ginny releases the broom and it rises gently into the air. She touches it fondly. ]

Can't say I fancy flying in a dress, though. Am I allowed trousers here?

[The truth of it was that, yes, she was in the way. But that was only because he had a dogged stubbornness about his work, which there was no hurry to complete. But he lied instead.]

No, you're fine. I just wanted the shield put away. Something like that, someone else might fancy taking it for themselves.

How's that? Go and ask for it back? People stupid enough to rely on others being decent end up losing their head for it.

[It would not occur to him to take it to the guards or the king and queen. Indeed, Gendry was well acquainted to a world where the authority existed only for the pleasure of those rich enough to afford it. Otherwise goldcloaks were used to protect the rich from the poor or in some cases, hunt down bastards for their unfortunate royal heritage.]

[It is the very fact that he believes the world to be only in shades of gray that he doesn't trust people. And he gives her a dubious look, largely because he doesn't get the metaphor.]

And you think we happen to have the right people about?

Before I was here, I fought side by side with knights, thieves, murderers, broken men, and all sorts of wretched men. I'd trust them in a fight, but not with my things.

[He frowns. Okay, good enough. After a moment passes:]

You know anything about runes?
bullhorned: (Arya I swear to gods)

[personal profile] bullhorned 2014-05-19 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The sort you stick in your weapon so that they make 'em burn with fire or sparkle with lightning. You know those sort?
bullhorned: (Bastards all over the place)

[personal profile] bullhorned 2014-05-20 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Gendry went to a drawer and pulled out a small rune that could be attached to a weapon, so long as it had been made to accept such a piece. He ran his thumb over the strange unrecognizable symbol on it.

"You friend could attach this, eh?"

He wish he knew more about them, but Marian Hawke had seemed to vanish. He could find no sight of her, nor did his locket do anything when he tried to contact her. He was left with the two runes she left him and no idea what to do once he forged a new sword to accept them.

[He shrugged and picked up the second one, as if the mere act of holding it might make it easier for him to understand something he barely understood.]

You stick it in a sword and once you do, it makes the sword magic-like. That one there should make a sword burn with fire. Not like with wildfire, but proper fire that won't harm the steel.
bullhorned: (Let's have a look see...)

[personal profile] bullhorned 2014-05-26 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't make my sword to reflect magic. [He touches his sword, sheathed and hanging by a peg on the wall.] This is old, cheap metal. I ain't yet made a new sword for myself yet.
bullhorned: (Probably better than Joffrey)

it's nbd!

[personal profile] bullhorned 2014-05-26 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[He pays no mind to her embarrassment. Or at least, not with words. There's a slight grin, that fades just as soon as it forms.]

Thank you. [A pause.] 'course, if there's something you want me to do for you, you only got to ask. [He reckoned she'd given him much of her time now, so it was only decent her repay it. He was not the sort to just impose on someone and then move on.]
bullhorned: (Imagine a photoshopped mic here)

[personal profile] bullhorned 2014-05-26 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods to the rune.] You keep that one for now, 'til you find someone who knows what to do with it.
bullhorned: (The Pre-Beard days)

[A shrug.] Until you find someone what can do something with it, it's only a pretty stone to me. And I've plenty of those already.
