[jason once again appears on the locket network, this time appearing to actually be in one of the provided bedrooms of caer glaem. woah. he tugs idly at the collar of his shirt, new outfit helpfully provided by the fairies in place of his original t-shirt and jeans (those unfortunately all torn and dirty after the camping trip/worm hunt). it's a lot more fantasy than anything he's used to, but he's way too nice to complain about the clothes he was given for free.]

Hey. Just wanted to check in, I guess, before we head out again tomorrow. More exploring and all that.

[the hope, of course, is that they find something useful to the people stuck here, a way of getting home or something. getting a feel for the area and learning what kind of threats inhabited it was helpful too, though.]

It might be a bit useless right now, but I sort of made plans to eventually help someone learn to fight -- whenever we get back again, at least -- so I figured I might as well open the offer up to anyone else who's interested in it. I've got a lot of experience training people, and I'm used to teaching kids, so literally anyone is welcome. [a beat, where a hesitant look briefly crosses his face before he covers it back up with that cool, unshakeable praetor look.] Clarisse, if you wanna help out with that whenever it happens, I'd appreciate it.

[consider that a peace offering. or at least, an apology for accidentally arming your nemesis with a lethal weapon. he can think of no better way to appease clarisse than to give her the opportunity to show off her admittedly very impressive fighting skills.

Yeah, if you actually get to know him. He's kind of like a skittish cat otherwise.

...Should cat be the relevant animal, you think? [ ... ] I've never known cats to be skittish. Evasive, certainly. But not skittish.

Perhaps your friend is more like a shy mouse.

I've totally seen cats that are skittish. The kind that jump or tense up if you come anywhere near them and then suddenly dart off into a corner somewhere? Unless cats are different where you come from.

Lions are cats. [ she says carefully. ] And they always seem so bold. But I suppose you're right -- the smaller ones have sense enough to flee.

I guess? That is kind of the whole noble image you usually get associated with lions. They're not really common where I'm from, though, so I wouldn't really know for sure.

[most people don't immediately think of anything but a normal cat when you say "cat", but it's fair to guess that maybe people living where the big cats are more common would think of those first.]

of course, sansa isn't thinking about the actual creature at all. cats and lions -- they put her in mind of actual people. of villains and kings and queens and knights and fine blond hair. even her husband possesses more lion-like courage and boldness, she believes, than she could ever dare to claim.

[lions don't really come up much in greco-roman myth, still the basis of so much of his life and perspective. it's really just the nemean lion, and while he could certainly draw parallels -- that impenetrable skin and vulnerable interior -- jason would never associate nico with a lion. not with an animal known for spending its days in the sun, lazing around confident in its status at the top of the food chain.

but she wouldn't know that, of course. if nico had his way, jason is sure, no one ever would.]

A way home, maybe? I know we can't be the only ones with something important to get back to.

I don't know what to believe. But I'd rather hope that there might be something and keep busy looking then just sit around doing nothing.

In that case, I suppose your enthusiasm puts the rest of us to shame.

I didn't mean that. We're...easily bored. Leaving people like us sitting around with nothing to do is just asking for trouble. It's better if we keep ourselves busy, even if it's not really likely to accomplish anything.

[as if that demigod adhd isn't bad enough on its own, clarisse and luke will probably kill each other if left sitting around doing nothing for too long, and separating them with another trip is probably the best damage control they can manage.]

Asking for trouble? Trouble like what?

Something getting broken, most likely. Or someone getting hurt. Something stupid, whatever it'd be.

[ yes. she knows it is. the court was always at its most dangerous when joffrey had been bored. but -- but she doesn't want to think about these people as being so horrible.

Not intentionally. But for a bunch of well-armed kids with a lot of power and a natural tendency to get restless easily? Yeah, it can be.

[a large part of the reason why camp jupiter had run in such a militaristic fashion. whatever jason's current feelings on his whole greek vs. roman internal conflict, he can't deny that the romans knew how to keep everyone occupied and thus orderly.]

Yes. Yes it can. I suppose you're right.

[he'd meant more of the supernatural kind of power. but he smiles anyway, almost instinctively trying to lighten her apparently somber mood.]

I promise, the rest of you are better off with most of us gone for a while.

[ concern. perhaps she should have been kind and polite and expressed her doubt. perhaps she should have promised him that she doubts they could be that much trouble. but the words would be empty, and she'd lack the knowledge she needed: were they such an honest threat that she needed to worry? about herself? about her family? ]

[he looks a little dismayed for a moment that she took him so seriously, and is quick to try waving away her concerns.]

You don't actually have to worry. I mean, I know we're kinda predisposed to stupidity, but none of us would do anything to hurt anyone on purpose. [whatever clarisse might say about luke.] We'll find some way to keep ourselves occupied, no matter what happens.
