[jason once again appears on the locket network, this time appearing to actually be in one of the provided bedrooms of caer glaem. woah. he tugs idly at the collar of his shirt, new outfit helpfully provided by the fairies in place of his original t-shirt and jeans (those unfortunately all torn and dirty after the camping trip/worm hunt). it's a lot more fantasy than anything he's used to, but he's way too nice to complain about the clothes he was given for free.]

Hey. Just wanted to check in, I guess, before we head out again tomorrow. More exploring and all that.

[the hope, of course, is that they find something useful to the people stuck here, a way of getting home or something. getting a feel for the area and learning what kind of threats inhabited it was helpful too, though.]

It might be a bit useless right now, but I sort of made plans to eventually help someone learn to fight -- whenever we get back again, at least -- so I figured I might as well open the offer up to anyone else who's interested in it. I've got a lot of experience training people, and I'm used to teaching kids, so literally anyone is welcome. [a beat, where a hesitant look briefly crosses his face before he covers it back up with that cool, unshakeable praetor look.] Clarisse, if you wanna help out with that whenever it happens, I'd appreciate it.

[consider that a peace offering. or at least, an apology for accidentally arming your nemesis with a lethal weapon. he can think of no better way to appease clarisse than to give her the opportunity to show off her admittedly very impressive fighting skills.

I can't really give you a concrete schedule, just something tentative. Most likely, to explore the Plains, it'll take maybe...a week? The Pool of Souls shouldn't take more than a day or two.

[Nico shrugs slightly.]

This is saying we don't get interrupted or lost or something.

[leo is his best friend. leo made a flying greek trireme controlled by a wiimote and a dubstep soundboard. jason is very well aware of the extent of leo's adhd.]

Yeah, that's why I didn't want to give anyone a more specific date, even if I had known when we were planning on coming back.

The Plains of Cathraon will be tricky to shadow travel around, so I think we should go through there with the mentality that I can't shadow travel. We might want to pack a little extra just in case.

[Not that Jason and Luke strictly have to worry about this. Nico can take care of it just fine, with some fairy help.]

Y'know, most of us have managed quests without shadow travel all our lives. I think we can handle it.

I'm also telling you to not be dependent on it since we've been using it a lot recently. If one of us gets hurt or sick, we won't have any ambrosia and we might not even be able to shadow travel to the nearest settlement for treatment.

Let's just worry about not getting mortally wounded for now, and we'll worry about backup plans for our backups plans if it comes to that.

[he is thinking about asking for a healthy stock of ambrosia and nectar if they offer boons again, though.]

[If Jason doesn't ask for it, Nico certainly will. Otherwise, pomegranate seeds for the win.]

I suppose if worst comes to worst, we just make Luke exercise his flying shoes.

At least you're small. I don't know if he could manage to carry me anywhere if needed, but if you ended up being the one to get hurt then we'd probably be fine.

[even sitting on his bed while nico's standing, they're still pretty much the same height. gosh you're teeny.]

You're the most likely one to get hurt, Grace. It's our bad luck that you're also the only one who can reliably ferry around one person with you.

I'm no more likely than either of you to get hurt.

[Nico hesitates. If anyone needs to know about this, then it's probably Jason. He doesn't think Luke's going to care overly much as long as they travel around. Besides, he can tell Luke when it comes up.]

I've done a little reading, and I've found some places that even I think we should avoid. At the very least, I wouldn't even attempt going alone to those places.

[jason raises an eyebrow, leaning back on the mattress. given this is the kid who ended up in tartarus because he wanted to check out the doors of death...dang.]

Like what?

To nobody's surprise, most of them are in Unseelie territory. The Desolate Lands is one place. From what I read, navigation is literally impossible. You can't even use the sun and stars because the sky is blocked. I might be able to get us out with shadow travel, but I don't want to risk it. La Llorona is supposedly full of malevolent spirits, and I mean more than I think I can ever handle on my own. Boglach is just fen country. We might get lucky with Will'o the Wisps helping us, but I wouldn't count on it. They're helpful, don't get me wrong, but...it's just a matter of luck on whether they'll get to us in time.

[He pauses to think back.]

The last thing I can think of is Lock Slaugh, but we should be okay if we camp out in the hills when the sun starts setting.

[he looks thoughtful, even if the names are mostly unfamiliar, but eventually just shrugs.]

I'll trust your judgement. Even if we can probably handle anything this place has to throw at us as long as we're in a group.

There are some things that can take us down. For example, Boglach I wouldn't even try without Hazel with us. Her earth sense is much stronger and more reliable than mine is. She'd be able to sense a safe path, and she used to live in Alaska, which is full of bogs. Otherwise, I'd have to fly with either you or Castellan.

[He doesn't look happy at the prospect. Like at all.]

Oh, and Loch Slaugh? Let's not try that without our water expert. Water demons lurk there after dark.

Are there any particularly deadly spots that are actually well-suited to our talents? Giant graveyards or eternal storms or...I don't know, never-ending roads?

[it's hard to tailor something to a hermes kid. giant warehouses? an attempt at using google? none of it sounds very scary.]

[Nico frowns as he thinks it over. He's honestly proud of himself for being able to commit the names of most locations to memory.]

The Desolate Lands...maybe. I don't know if Castellan would be able to safely navigate that place when even a compass goes haywire and everything looks the same. I don't even know if I could shadow travel out if it turns out that he can't, but with his father being the god of travelers, I'd put more stock in his being able to find a way out. As for a graveyard...well, in all honesty? Most of this place is haunted, whether it's by evil or good spirits. Not much in the way of eternal storms, but your flight will be more useful to Castellan's sense of direction than whatever I can do.

Good to know we at least have a human compass, if it comes down to that.

[he grins, but lets it fade away after a moment, shifting uncomfortably on the bed. he might as well keep nico in the loop, right?]

So you think he'll actually answer me?

Give him a few hours. He didn't get back to me until most of the day was done.

[As an afterthought, he adds:]

Well, if he doesn't talk about it here, he'll have to on the road.

Did he really agree to come? That's a definite thing that's happening?

[he knows nico had said he was gonna invite luke. that didn't necessarily mean the invitation had been accepted -- and tense as everything has been this week, he couldn't really blame the guy if he didn't want to.]
