[that's ...a lot at once, and the way she speaks has him trying to catch up with her. he runs his hand over his face, wondering why he thought she would be any different from the rest of the new arrivals. at least she seems smart.]

If it ain't magic, it's somethin'. Everybody got the same kinda stories, far as I know.

I am sorry you have found yourself away from home for so long.

[ said with warm sympathy. gwen, as it happens, doesn't need to know someone for long to genuinely feel for them. ]

If time stops, then it allows me to help the - fairies and then go back home unnoticed. That's - a relief. And the sooner we finish helping them, the better. That way we can go back home.

[the genuine concern in her voice surprises him; he's not used to that from strangers, so much so he has to duck his head to avoid looking at her, glancing around his room instead.]

S'fine. [but his awkward demeanor turns sullen once again and he has a hard time finding a way to explain it without sounding like a pessimist.] War's been goin' on for a while, don't got a clue when it's gonna end.

[it's unpredictable, and that's what makes it scary.]

We're gonna find a way out, but for now- I ain't too sure when.

I suppose all we can do is hope.

[ and hope is a strong thing, something that must never be lost. after all, at home, nearly everyone had lost hope that morgana shall ever be seen again but then, she had returned. hope is what they must hang onto then. ]

This war - forgive me, I simply wish to ask - how has it started? who are we fighting?

[ben runs his hand over his face in a tired gesture, pausing at his lips. he never put great effort into knowing how the war started, but he knows the gist of it, knows that disagreements happened and ties were broken. to him, an end wasn't in the near future.]

Don't really matter what side you're on, but we got Harmony and Chaos. Caer Scima's on the other side; they're who we're fightin'. You don't gotta fight if you don't want, long as you help out some other way.

So are we - to help fight people we do not necessarily have any reason to fight?

[ that seems...tragic, almost. ]

I would help with the mending of armor and the swords and with helping the injured but that...seems terrible. that people would be hurt for something they do not understand and have never chosen.

That's right.

[he shrugs. it's certainly hard to process, and he doesn't approve of it, but it's tolerable so long as he isn't forced to do harm.]

They're tellin' us if we help, we go home. Ain't much to it, but lots of people'll do whatever it takes.

[ she'd like to think that there are some things she won't do, not even for home but the idea of staying here forever is honestly a frightening one. ]

I suppose we have little choice but to trust their word.

No. We got a choice. I ain't gonna trust them 'til they give us a better way to get home.

[he's determined to do that. he can't get over the fact that he's been here for nearly a year and still hasn't figured out how to go home without falling asleep, only to wake back up here. it's ridiculous.]

[ she hopes for the same; mainly seeing Arthur again and a sane version of Morgana. ]

Probably. Ain't never heard of a government that didn't hide anythin' from the people.

What is a government? Is it another name for royalty, in your land? Not - that I'm saying royalty hides things from people.

[ which is her way of saying 'not arthur'. she would say the same for morgana but as it seems, morgana did indeed hid quite a lot of things from her.

Maybe. [he's not attached to law (let alone the government) much, if at all. hell, he's still on the run at home.] Believe what you want, but this place is still hidin' somethin'.

[ said uneasily because as much as she'd like to believe this is all a desperate cry for help during war, gwen is not a fool. ]

we will find another way. We cannot treat anyone as if their life is less worthy of our own.

[he doesn't believe her, and his tone definitely gives that away. he knows his destiny at home, knows it could end up with him dead so long as it saves the rest of humanity. maybe this is all a part of that, and if it is -- he's okay with it.]
