[ it's a singular word accompanied by the image of a very unamused and unimpressed older face with eyebrows that even if you couldn't see his mouth might actually show off his displeasure all by themselves. it's clear that he thinks this entire thing is stupid and arguably not real, but then again, robin hood shouldn't be real and he certainly did run into him. ]

There's a planet or two like this. Populated only with small, very— annoying bug creatures. I hate those planets. [ see also: i hate here. ] Try to avoid them unless someone wants to go see them.

[ that's not actually the commentary he means to make about here, but he can't entirely resist it. he clears throat. ] Of all the versions of me to drag here you choose me. Have to wonder if there's something a bit off in your heads. Then again, there's imps and fairies around and involved. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised if there's something off.

[ he sighs. ] If you can take a moment away from whatever it is you're doing right now. I know it's important to you— but this is a bit important to me and it'll take a minute. And it won't kill you to take that minute to listen since you already are. [ he also doesn't entirely care what everyone else is doing right now, but manners, achieving the goal of actually getting someone to pay attention. ] I'm missing a person. My ca— Clara. Her name's Clara, about— [ he motions somewhere south of his shoulder that is a horrible approximation of her actual height. ] that high, wide face. Bossy little thing. Tell her the Doctor's looking for her and that I need to see her even if she doesn't want to see me. I need to make sure she's in one piece if she's here.

So they're likely not in very large numbers if that's the case. Barring some undiscovered collection of them somewhere in this place.

Probably buried the book in the very back of both of them, then. No one wants to touch the dust bunny of a book because knowing here it might eat them. [ Never mind that no books are restricted in the Unseelie library, there probably is a legit dust bunny book somewhere in it though. ] You ever been in yours between traveling and being dumped in the ocean?

Hopefully without a book or I imagine it's a bit soggy now.

Learned how to use healing magic out of one. Not that I'm great at it, but since magic doesn't exist back home- I figure I can get some slack and call someone more competent for big things.

[ He snorts again. ]

Are bandages too good for you lot? Does everything have to involve magic? Magic comas, magic this, magic that. Magic magic. I know it has imps and fairies but there's a limit.

[ He actually huffs like a five year old after that. ]

And you. I doubt even you could swim with a book in your hands. Makes arriving safely a bit more dicey.

Bandages don't help when you've nearly been cut in half. But the healing thing's not for me, anyway.

[ He has his own healing thing. ]

Other than the magic? Field medicine, mostly. For keeping people alive until you can get them out of a fight.

[ There is honestly the universe's longest pause here before the Doctor's voice lowers and gains a certain edge to it. ]

[ That's not a question and yet the Doctor expects an answer. ]

A Marine. Or- I was.

[ He notices that edge. Knowing what he knows, seeing what he's seen, he can't say he blames him. ]

Pretty sure it won't stay that way back home, either because I'll quit or because they'll kick me out. Whichever one happens first.

[ There's a rather large part of him that just wants to end the conversation there, because maybe it's a was for John, but in the end does any solider stop being a solider? No, they're always a solider until the day they die.

He stops himself, though, just barely and manages to get out one word. ]

Why? [ He realizes that's not a very good way to frame that question and follows it up with: ] Why won't it stay that way?

[ Soldiers can't leave behind the service any more than he can leave behind being a Time Lord. ]

[ He's a soldier forever, mentally; he can agree with that. But so is everyone by name in this place at the end of the day, whether by choice or not. ]

I've seen enough people killed for no reason.

And you didn't like it? Didn't approve of it?

[ Two simple questions on the surface but to the Doctor they're woefully complex and dictate just how much he might want to talk to John in the future. Despite their different court alliances.

He can deal with soldiers who think like him. Well. Sort of like him. Sometimes you can't really prevent deaths and all. ]
