Gimli starts the feed up and he has three of his five axes out in front of him, sharpening a fourth.]

I'm fairly certain anyone interested is already here, but. [And he shrugs] I hope you have people to vouch for you if you're interested. I do not tolerate slackers or liars on my jobs, nor do I tolerate saboteurs.

I did not know. On who's side?

On my mothers side though the relation is truthfully more distant than that, I just grew up calling him 'uncle.' I would sit and watch him work when he would allow it.

Not very much, I was too young and I did not quite have the patience to learn. [She'd been too eager to run around and explore, get herself into trouble.]

Elf children tend to be impatient sometimes. And in those days, all I wished to do was play with my friends and explore whatever hidden places Eregion might have had.

Aye, I am not surprised. I thought he would kill me when the Fellowship was leaving the woods. Your mother had asked me what gift a Dwarf could ask of an Elf and...well.

[Oh, she's noticing that but the answer she gets makes her freeze for a moment and then stare. She knows how her mother is about her hair.]

Three strands of her hair. Really?

Aye. Lord Celeborn nearly had a fit, I believe, as did other Elves.

It is no wonder! My mother rarely lets any but my father or myself near her hair. She refused even Fëanor when he asked for a strand of her hair.

[And she gave Gimli three. Does he know how special that makes him?]

I've heard that name before but I do not know where. Who was he?

[He can appreciate one's hair being a personal thing since it is with the Dwarves as well. But he doesn't know the magnitude of the gift]

You know of the Silmarils, yes? He was the one who crafted them and captured the light of the Two Trees within them. He was also my mothers uncle.

I do not know what those are, nor do I know what these Trees were. But--uncle?

I... yes, that is her name now. I... Master Gimli... that is... that is the highest honor she could have accorded anyone! My cousin is extremely proud of her hair - not even to my father would she grant one strand, and he asked her thrice!
