Gimli starts the feed up and he has three of his five axes out in front of him, sharpening a fourth.]

Thought I might as well let the world at large know that if you are at all interesting in helping to rebuild the gates of the Cothromach, I'm the Dwarf you should speak to. I'm fairly certain anyone interested is already here, but. [And he shrugs] I hope you have people to vouch for you if you're interested. I do not tolerate slackers or liars on my jobs, nor do I tolerate saboteurs.

[Well, that explains the show of axes.

It is no wonder! My mother rarely lets any but my father or myself near her hair. She refused even Fëanor when he asked for a strand of her hair.

[And she gave Gimli three. Does he know how special that makes him?]

I've heard that name before but I do not know where. Who was he?

[He can appreciate one's hair being a personal thing since it is with the Dwarves as well. But he doesn't know the magnitude of the gift]

You know of the Silmarils, yes? He was the one who crafted them and captured the light of the Two Trees within them. He was also my mothers uncle.

I do not know what those are, nor do I know what these Trees were. But--uncle?

[Oh. Crap. How to explain silmarils?

Well, that's only partly important right now.]

Aye, Fëanor is the brother of my mothers father. [Half-brother really.] He asked my mother for a single hair from her head, as inspiration, and she refused him. He later created three jewels, the Silmarils.

[She'll avoid going into unnecessary history.] And she gave you three of her hairs. She gave you something she refused her own uncle.

I... yes, that is her name now. I... Master Gimli... that is... that is the highest honor she could have accorded anyone! My cousin is extremely proud of her hair - not even to my father would she grant one strand, and he asked her thrice!

No, no no, none of that. I had no idea it was such an honor and simply wanted a reminder of the fairest thing I have yet seen.

No, Master Gimli. Such an honor accorded by one of the greatest of us, and further that you are so humble about it? No - you are every bit deserving of the highest honor from any of us.

Bah, I am worthy of no such thing! I was pressed into asking--I did not want to ask for so silly a thing!

You hesitated because you felt it rude, and for that consideration she rewarded you. [ Maglor corrects cheerfully - look, its difficult to lie to the guy who lies to all and sundry including himself ]

Accept your honors, Master dwarf! Tis not every day one hears of such a thing!
