Okay, I get it. [ Tess' tone is brusque, cool, almost flippant. She feels fucking weird talking into a locket, of all things, but it's been a long damn time since she's had anything like a phone, so hey, might as well try this out, right? ] This place is magic. Fairies, trolls, goblins, whatever. You have 'em. Like some kind of fucking fairy tale. [ She honestly isn't sure what to believe right now, so she's getting right to the point. ] I just have one question for you. Cordyceps. Have you heard of it? And more importantly, is it here?

[ Tess glances aside for a moment, her eyes flashing with - fear, maybe. Not that she would ever admit that. ] Because I can live with magic and shit if there's no infection to worry about.

[ Whatever 'living' might entail here, anyway. ]

Oh. Well, um, I don't think it's here. No one else has mentioned it, at least, and there's nothing that the faeries have talked about either.

[ And Hermione's been here for -- well, a long time. She knows. ]

[ Tess lets out a breath, turning that over in her mind for a moment. It's not one-hundred percent, of course, one person saying it's not here doesn't necessarily make that so.

But the fact remains: she still hasn't turned. The bite is a scar, nothing more. If it itches or burns a little, is that real or just in her head? Who knows. ]

...Thanks. [ It comes out somewhat awkwardly - she's been so tense since she was unceremoniously dumped here, she's been basically snapping at everyone, even the well-meaning types. ]

[ Whatever this is it's obviously something that's freaking out this poor woman and Hermione just wants to make her feel better, really. She pauses, awkwardly, before she tilts her head and offers a weak smile. ]

I'm Hermione Granger. It's nice to meet you.

[ If she was in a better frame of mind, she might wonder why that name sounds vaguely familiar, but she's way too caught up in the stress of her current situation to worry too much about things like that. ]

Is there always this much food around, by the way?

Well, there isn't always a feast, no, but you shouldn't ever go hungry. All you have to do is ask a faerie or imp to get you something and they're more than happy to help.

[ That is... weird as fuck. ]

What if I want to find my own food?

Then you can go to the kitchens and get some. No one will stop you.

[ She squints into the locket, almost suspiciously, like there has to be some kind of catch. ]

[ Hermione nods, tilting her head. ]

It doesn't even cost money or anything? There's gotta be a catch somewhere.

[ She bites back a bit of a shocked laugh at that. ]

Being brought here isn't enough of a catch?

Not unless you're a zombie - I think we have a few of those here. They seem really nice.

[ That makes her flinch a little. Infected aren't zombies, of course, that would imply they are dead. The person they were is definitely gone, but they're still alive in the technical sense. ]

Dead people are nice. Fan-freaking-tastic. [ She mutters that almost to herself and unconsciously rubs at the side of her neck through her shirt. ]
