There is a magic here that I have never encountered in all of my journeys across Middle Earth. I do not know what to call it or even where it originates. {His anger over having been taken from the final battle at the Black Gate has diminished. In its place, Aragorn looks solemn and paler than usual.} I can only ask that it returns me from whence I came. It is of the utmost importance that I do not -

{For the first time, his voice cracks and he falls silent.}

There is a battle. It will decide the fate of my world. If I do not fight within it; if I do not lend my strength to my men, more of them will perish. {Perhaps they will lose heart. Perhaps all of them will die in the face of their greatest fear. All of the possibilities are incredibly grim.} I must return.

My name is Aragorn, son of Arathorn and I am the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor. My place is with my people and my friends.

{No feast can distract him; food is naught but a texture against his tongue. Now isn't the time for joy and festivities. Rather, his entire attention is fixed upon that which he can't see anymore.

The Black Gate.

How far has he been transported? And by what sorcery? He holds onto his sword - the reforged Narsil - tightly, ready and waiting to draw it free from its sheathe.}

Perhaps you should join me, whenever Legolas gets here. I am not sure what he's doing, but it has to be more productive than sitting around here.

One would hope. {It's easy to fall back into conversation. His smile grows as his tone becomes teasing.} I don't believe I have ever seen an Elf sit around and do nothing.

{Thanks to visual cues - and his Ranger skills - he soon comes upon the Dwarf. Clapping Gimli on the shoulder, he sighs.}

I was afraid I would never see a friendly face again.

[Gimli was expecting this, and shuts his locket when Aragorn nears]

There seem to be many friendly faces, or at least faces that do not want to kill us. It's good to see you, lad.

A change I welcome wholeheartedly. {There are far too many ~~Orcs~~enemies in their world. No place is completely safe. But here...} You have brought me good tidings. I would find it amiss to not thank you in person.

{Though even if the tidings had been bad, he would have wanted to see Gimli.}

You are welcome to them. It seems wrong to keep good news from you, after all. Which reminds me--I did not know that your wife was Galadriel's granddaughter!

I would not want you to keep any news - good and ill - from me. {Surprise leads to a soft joy. Arwen lives.} She is the Evening Star of her people and daughter of Lord Elrond.

Yes, which tells me nothing, except that she is lovely and you are quite smitten with her.

[Elves. And Elvish Men]

I grew into a man at her side. The Elves rescued my mother and myself when I was but a child. Lord Elrond saw to my education while his children welcomed me with open arms into their world.

I think perhaps I have always loved her.

[This face. He loves you like a brother, Aragorn, but come on.]

It sounds very Elvish, and therefore appropriate for the both of you.

Am I hopeless? {He knows he can be emotional when it comes to her, but she has supported him and given him stability in times of crisis.} Arwen Undómiel has lived for two thousand, seven hundred and seventy eight years yet she chooses to be with me. If the war was not won, she would have perished.

{The weight of being a King sobers him and he glances at Gimli.}

Aye, and I will tell you know what I told you then: simply ask for my help, and you shall have it. I didn't save the world to go back to my mountain and caverns and ignore it!

{"You are my friend for eternity." He uses Elvish for the sole reason that he wants Gimli to wonder over the phrase and perhaps seek out more alliances with the Elves.

It couldn't hurt.}

[He huffs and gives Aragorn a Look]

Four years and I still don't understand a word of that bird language. Hmph. What's that mean, then?

I'm torn. {Such quandaries.} If I don't tell you, you could seek out an Elf and ask their advice; however that might well make the statement lose value in your eyes.

Asking an Elf for advice would require me to repeat what you said and we both know that is impossible.

{Point and match.}

[He smiles]

And you are mine until the mountains fall.

I pray they never do. {He chuckles and looks around.} What do you know of the Seelie court?

[He shrugs]

They're worse than Elves. Their food is strange, and their beer stranger. The rooms are too far from the banquet hall, and you need a map to navigate the hallways.

{As if things aren't complicated enough...}

Are we free to choose where we reside?

I would assume so, since Legolas doesn't seem to live here and there seems to be no sign of assigned rooming. Why?

I am not comfortable putting too much space between allies and friends. In a land that ignores time and pits us against one another, battle could be upon us at any moment.

My thoughts exactly. So, you'll be leaving with me when Legolas arrives?
