[Guess who has two thumbs and is getting a handle on "fairy," technology. This guy. There's some rifling, and a brief shot of his face before he manages to get the damn thing figured out. Once he has the thing zero in on what he assumes is a reasonable view of him head on based on the image he's seeing he clears his throat.]

[Coming from the guy that never had a myspace and doesn't use computers for anything but paranormal research, except for the occasional porno. Something he hasn't even mastered yet. He'd still rely on skin mags and pay-per-view if he had the option.]

Okay. Probably pointless, but new recruit here and I'm as pro-rights as the next guy but when I got the memo that I'd be waging war on behalf of fairies this isn't exactly what I anticipated.

[Dean scrubs a hand over his face, pausing to collect his thoughts. Sure, it's a bad joke, but anything to break the ice and take a little tension out of the situation.]

I've exhausted all my options on getting in touch with the people back home, and any resources on a way out are all coming up goose egg.

Anyone got any bright ideas? 'Cause so far this all seems like a really bad acid trip and getting enlisted by friggin' Tinkerbell's not my idea of a good time.

They do. It's all about getting to the truth. Mysteries used to be really big. Now people are more interested in romcoms and thrillers.

[If there's one thing Connor is quickly learning here, it's that there comes a time when a man should just give up trying to understand what he's being told.

He opts to revisit the thought he'd had a few moments ago rather than delve further into the mysteries of mysteries and whatever romcoms and thrillers are.]

What you said about the fairy-spirits not being fairies... You may be right about that. At least, I have cause to believe they may be a more menacing form of spirit than they make themselves out to be. Or if there is some other entity responsible for their actions... for faking them? [Skeptic-friendly.] It may be a force of considerable power and evil.

[He wants to say demon, or possibly witch, but he isn't sure either word would be the right one. He really only has half-remembered childhood stories and a meeting with a spirit who turned him into an eagle to work with here, and English terms don't always match up well with the names his people have for more... magical... beings.]

There is another voice and face on the locket talking about how the spirits are reviving the dead for their war.

[That's cause for concern and Dean's torn between letting this guy know he has experience or playing it off like it's nothing. Without Sam here he's not gonna let anyone on to what he really does back home. The less people relying on him the better, his main priority was getting back to the people that really needed him.]

C'mon. That's fiction, pal. Something's not adding up, might as well be written in neon lights.

[That gets an exasperated huff. He appreciates the viewpoint, but this stranger is starting to seem less skeptical and more in denial.]

Then tell me: what other explanation could there be? What is going on here?

Just because I don't believe the load of crap about warring mythical families or things like this on the whole doesn't mean that someone isn't pulling the strings. A lot's possible with science, the rest could be illusion based. I don't know what's going on, what I do know is that doing what they expect us to isn't part of my agenda.

Science and illusions. How much of this do you believe we are imagining? The small people with wings? The titan worms? The golden castle that reaches halfway to the sky? Or are all these things the works of science?

[He cuts off there, holding the locket away from him for a second. This is neither the time nor the place to be venting.]

We are at least in accord on the point of not following their orders. I am going to meet with them. I will tell them of the people here who have no gem pieces. They will recognize their error and return us to our homes. We will not have to know what is truly happening here.

It's a lot to swallow, sure, and maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew not going along with it- it's just in my experience, there's always something else at play in these kinds of situations and I'm gonna take everything with a grain of salt until I figure out what that is.

[There's some rustling on the line, followed by an irate sigh. Dean's tired, he hasn't slept since he arrived and just before arriving was twelve hours of non-stop driving. Anything that could pull him and the impala into the fray had to be pretty powerful, but he seriously doubted it was fairies. He's playing the disbeliever thing a little too far and so he's willing to let it drop for now. There's a fine line between not believing and seeming a little too eager to sweep it all under the rug.]

Need any help with that? It doesn't account for the poor saps who were unlucky enough to have those gems and not be aware of it, but it's a start.

I understand... I do. And I apologize if I have been rude. The past few weeks have been too long for my liking. I am ready to be back where I know what it is I must do and how it is I must do it. I am ready to be back where things make sense.

[More sense, anyway. He's come to expect a certain amount of inexplicable madness in Colonial politics.]

I would not refuse help, but I do not know what help I might need, either. Perhaps the leaders can be made to see reason. Even those with gems should have a choice.

That makes two of us. I think most people here would pick their responsibilities over this crap shoot.

[Just saying. Dean's glad that they're off the topic of lore and what to do with it. Working the scene solo is harder than he thought it'd be, even with his experience going at it alone.]

I'm with you there. Maybe if we put our heads together they might just decide to let the people who aren't interested in their fight go.
