[ This video feed is focused mostly on a Lancelot's dog, so all that is really seen of him is his hands holding her still. She's terribly curious about it, but he's restraining her from licking it or chewing it.

His voice is distinctly tired, and anyone who is paying attention will notice that you can just about see a line of red, raw skin on his wrists -- leather guards covering how heavy the damage might be. ]

Is anyone good with names? I'm afraid my friend here has gone too long without one. She's brave, curious but cautious, much cleverer than I am...

[ She's also turning to nudge his hands. He lifts one gently and pets at her ears. She squirms a little, shakes her head -- then makes a quiet, high-pitched sound and...

... hiccups a tiny fireball. The dog's ears flatten back, perhaps unhappy or apologetic (maybe embarrassed, it wasn't very elegant) but Lancelot just huffs amusement and strokes her again. ]

Forgive me, I almost forgot, it seems these -- [ He reaches out of the frame and his hand comes back holding a small, blue feather. ] -- have some kind of magic in them. It appears it does not discriminate in who it grants it to.

[ Which means he now has a small, magically inclined dog. ]

[Her expression softens at the display.]

Not too common but they seem rather descriptive of her.

[ He's as attentive as a parent over a child, and the puppy is fairly peaceable for such a young creature. They are out in the wilds, after all, and all the strange sounds keep her alert and cautious.

She has to keep him safe, can't do that if she's messing around!

Someone has to look after this foolish human. ]

She saved my life. I feel I must due her justice.

She seems a good and loyal companion. I think no matter what name you choose for her, she will be pleased. If only because it came from you.

[It's an adorable puppy and it's good to see that at least that isn't marred because of this place and the war.]

I hope you are right. Do you know much of dogs?

[ Lancelot scritches her behind one ear thoughtfully. ]

I have never cared for one myself, I admit. It is a good thing she is patient with me.

[ He has this the wrong way around. The dog is taking care of him. Dog's first pet human and it got a stupid one. ]

A bit, as I know many animals. They all speak in their own way and I can understand them.

[She looks like a happy pup.]

I do not doubt you will catch on quickly. Especially with so patient a dog.

Did you care for many, then? In your home?

[ A farmer, perhaps? Hound master? Stable hand? He's not sure what that kind of skill translates to, but it certainly is a skill -- to be good with animals on the whole, understand them. ]

I brought many injured animals home to my parents when I was young. And the habit did not die when I grew. Nor did they ever discourage me.

[So yes. She might still do it too, even in Drabwurld.

And really, he hasn't even gotten close in his guesses.]

[ Ah, so not as work, then. Simply as a carer. Lancelot smiles to himself a little, even if she cannot see it, and shifts his hands to gently rub at the puppy's chest. She flops over onto her side to allow him better access, but her ears still prick around curiously at the sounds of the forest. She's still cautiously alert to any potential danger. ]

Then I envy you. Your skill is something to be admired, to heal and nurture so. My skill is with the sword. I fear that will little help me with my friend here.

[Her smile falters briefly but it's back in no time, the change almost unnoticeable. She has years of practice behind her.]

As is yours. My skill with the sword is not so great though my uncle taught me what he could. No doubt, even with such a skill, you will find yourself and her to be good friends. All animals are clever, she can see beyond the sword.

I hope so. Perhaps... if it is not too bold, and you are not too busy, you might teach me some day? I should like to know how to better care for her.

[ What if she... cuts her paw on a rock or something? The difficulties of puppy parenthood. ]

I would be happy to. And I am sure that it will help to bring you both closer as well.

[It'll be okay, Lancelot. She'll teach you everything she can.]

[ He nods at that. It is what he hopes for, after all. ]
