[the locket is being carried, facing outwards, around the castle of caer scima. the feed isn't too bumpy, but it does sway a bit, jerking around every so often as effy avoids tripping over rocks or branches. she's fairly far away from the castle, but that doesn't seem to bother her. every so often she stops, marking a tree with a sharp rock, to be sure she knows her way back.]

Okay.

[she stops momentarily to adjust the locket, turning it around so it shows her face. with her free hand, she tucks the rock away in her pocket and holds up one blue feather, twisting it around quickly between her fingertips.]

It really isn't too hard to find these, is it? They're everywhere.

[fortunately, for her, she doesn't seem to be feeling (or experiencing) the effects of the feathers just yet. she's found two already, within the past hour and a half or so. the effort isn't exhausting, so she's enjoying it. it's like an easter egg hunt. she's only doing it for the sake of figuring out boons, though.]

If anyone wants to come looking, text me.

[or they can follow the marked trees outside of the castle. they're pretty in-your-face.]

[after she shuts the locket and gets her bag, it takes almost no time at all with her speed, and when she shows up, she's done it quietly enough that it's more like one moment she's not there and the next she's stepping out from some of the trees. which otherwise would have been far from the case, as someone wearing red should be easily noticed from a while away.]

[the sudden arrival of grell startles effy, making her pivot on her feet quickly to face her. she immediately calms, though, realizing that it's probably the woman she was talking to before.]

Effy. You?

Grell Sutcliffe, though if you're the type to skip formality I won't mind if you simply call me Grell. It's a pleasure.

[even if she does prefer Lady Sutcliffe over anything else.]

Did you have a direction you wanted to start in or should I spin in a circle and where I land is where we begin?

[with a bit of a laugh she glances over her shoulder.]

Why not. Spin away.

[she had been joking, but if Effy's going to take her seriously, then why not live up to it? Grell gives a little twirl on her heel and stops, pointing out in a random direction.]

Lady Luck has decided, and she says this direction.

Shouldn't waste any time, then.

[grell's enthusiasm has effy's lips tugging up into a smile, and with a small shake of her head, she starts walking in the direction grell had chosen.

after a few minutes of meandering around, checking trees and watching where she steps, she glances over to grell--]

How long have you been here?

[how long? the answer rolls off her tongue before she's really aware of it.]

Almost six months now.

[somewhere in her there was a clock, a schedule that ticked off the days since all this began.]

What about you?

[effy catches that, catches the way she doesn't even have to think about it.]

A month and a half.

[she's pretty sure. save a few days-- she's been marking off the days since she arrived.]

So not long at all. Hopefully settling in hasn't been too rough on you?

[she says it like small talk, but every part of it is her evaluating, considering Effy. there was that thin thread of her being a comrade in terms of their shared Court, but beyond that? was she worth getting to know?]

Apart from the various instances of bad luck, I should say it has treated me very well.

[effy has to do a double-take in order to understand that yes, grell is absolutely serious. she lets out a half-laugh, half-scoff,]

[which is something she never thought she would have to say.]

You being human doesn't mean you'd be exempt from knowing magic. There are several I could name instantly who are human and yet possess the art.

[and when grell questions her, she's not really sure if she wants to know. sure, it'd be a weird, new trick- something else she could take advantage of, maybe.]
