[ Having left Redgate on horseback with a promise to return when he can, John hadn't really had a plan. The war has become a hard thing to swallow, having seen the devastation the dragon had more or less accidentally done to the village. He'd given the funds Kaldur had sent to Alyosha, presented in front of all as a donation to help with restorations, and he hopes it helps. More than that, he hopes that being away from there makes it a bit safer.

If nothing else, the birds seem to have followed him, chirping and squawking all the way along the road to Daonna's fairy ring. His horse hadn't been particularly pleased about it, and it isn't too pleased now, either, in the camp John's made for the night. He's in the wilderness, close to the edge of Loch Noa, and it's sunset -- John isn't particularly sure whether or not he wants to see if the stories about a ghost girl and her dog are true, but he had to stop somewhere.

There are long strands of fur left on his shirt and he plucks them off. They appear white, but are actually transparent -- polar bear fur. A hint of blue can, likewise, be seen behind him. He's been collecting feathers, and using them. ]

Anyone else looking for the feather thief? If you're in the area, my camp's open.

locked to the krew + legolas + clara + arya;

Do you think there's even any chance in finding 'em?

[ uh. well, at least turning into animals isn't exactly abnormal for him. ]

Can't be too hard if they're all ending up everywhere, at least.

Like this? I'd say loads of it was deliberate. If you're trying not to be tracked the best way is to leave hints everywhere. 'Though, really, the best way isn't to leave any anywhere, so suppose it can't really help it.

There's all sorts of magic here. I wouldn't put anything past 'em. Charms like that aren't the most difficult at home, either, so doesn't make for a surprise it wouldn't be here either.

Not just that. There's spells for sending things off places, too. And portkeys. But no one suggests using portkeys 'less you want to be sick to your stomach.

If someone's yanking off your feathers you'd be mad too, mind.

It's probably ghost birds out to get their vengeance.

Cats don't die everyone knows that. They've nine lives.

[ What are we even doing with our lives, good sir. That's totally why he's stuck with Crookshanks forever and not because he likes him at all. Hermione will never let that cat die. ]

After nine lives? I think they'd be bored of being a ghost. The nine lives might be a trick to thinking they'll leave after that anyway. Real nightmares, cats.

We had owls and a rat-- [ though that kind of gets a pause. no still a rat. ] --Hermione and Crookshanks were there every summer and at school, so we practically had a cat as well. I had toads and we had garden gnomes... And the ghoul. But both of those are more like nuisances that bang around or bite you.

No, that's the gnomes. They know some awful curses thanks to Fr-- [ A beat. ] Fred and George.

...The ghoul just moans and bangs around a bunch. I'd know seeing as he was right above my room.

[ He'd be right about that. There was more then one reason Ron purposefully side-stepped every mention of his family he could or left it be as quickly as possible. Not because he didn't love them... The opposite, really, and he hadn't gotten the chance to sort out that loss properly at all.

There's a snort at that, though. ]

Had to learn to be, yeah. Not much of one anymore now, though.
