VIDEO(s) | 1-3 September + the rest of September | OPEN | +assorted pm's to a hella lot of people
Morning, Sept 1
[ The first video, on September 1st, is an empty room in the healing ward, locket angled awkwardly as though it were left on a dresser or table surface, but not by the user. The voice is raspy and disused, and the picture is off-center, focused on an individual whose body is seemingly entirely submerged in a bathtub full of iced water, bright pink and yellow discolorations interrupting the natural color of the skin. ]
Πού είμαι εγώ? Ανεξ Οριν? Πού είμαι εγώ?
[ He is only awake for a few minutes, entirely disoriented and squinting in the direction of the device he seems to have remembered to activate. He falls back asleep again, and slips beneath the water. ]
Dawn, Sept 2
[ He is awake again, this time more alert, hand moving as though it would reach towards the device before falling entirely still with pain, limbs assuming a decorticate pose. Still he tries to speak again, voice still quiet and raspy. The off-centered image of the locket seems to pick up a very strong fanning of his neck, seemingly expanding and contracting in quick intervals, but it is hard to tell what is causing that effect since the image seems almost blurred. ]
Where is...? Nightwing? Black Canary...?
[ He seems to stay conscious for longer, but his questions end quickly and he looks about in confusion at the room before sinking into unconsciousness again. ]
Mid-day, Sept 2
[ Awake and much more conscious, shifting slightly in the tub, though clearly in some severe form of discomfort. The voice is calmer, though he still seems slightly confused. ]
There was a dragon–
[ He doesn't say more, simply tries to peer about his environment, trying to look for clues. Once someone else enters the room, the feed shuts off. ]
Morning, Sept 3
[ Moderately upright, Alert, and the locket is now centered properly on Kaldur's face, though little can be seen below his chin. Given the more focused view, this seems deliberate. ]
I would know that status of Redgate, as well as all those of my acquaintance who are traveling abroad and receive this message. Thank you.
[ He still looks a little peaky, but much more aware of himself and his surroundings. ]

She probably would have arrived earlier, had she asked the fairies for help at the start of her little venture. It was only once she was hopelessly lost that she sought out help, and finally found her way to Kaldur's room in the healing ward. Which, naturally, she entered with all the grace of an angry ziboson, and it was a small miracle the door was not damaged after the way she flung it open.
"By Tetra's fist, if this is part of some ridiculous ploy to avoid our battle, no amount of strange magic will be able to fix what I do to you!"
Despite the clear and present threat in her words, Looma wasn't terribly upset. She was loud, sure, and gritting her teeth by the time she was done speaking, but she wasn't really mad. The door to the room would have likely been outside the castle by now if she were. Besides, she did not appear to be terribly eager to engage in violence, despite her annoyance. She simply crossed her arms over her chest and waited to hear the inevitable explanation.
"What. Happened."

"Princess Looma. I apologize for the unexpected delay in our promised match."
In fact, now that he's thinking about it, he's pretty damned ticked, too. He'd been looking forward to that opportunity, and he is notlooking forward to the excess of physical rehab he is going to need to go through.
"I had underestimated the dampening effects of the environment, which exacerbated a particular weakness of mine. It was best that I be removed from the situation as quickly as possible, unfortunately, that only added to my injuries."
Also, Kaldur's priorities when it comes to his safety over others' safety, especially now that he isn't really in command any more, is pretty terrible. Greek Gods of Yogurt-Awful. Sea cucumbers are rather better at it, actually.

Yep, she was going there. Though she did doubt that any species anywhere in the galaxy had an aversion to colors, she was curious about the strange coloration of his skin at the moment. She was relatively certain no part of him had been bright pink or yellow when they last spoke.
Still, as she was not completely inconsiderate, she thought it best to have this conversation from somewhere other than the doorway and made her way toward the tub that had been set aside for the Atlantean. She had her doubts that any chairs in the room would be even remotely comfortable (or able to support the weight of someone her size clad in full armor), so she resigned to leaning against a wall closer to the tub and setting her warhammer on the floor. Considering Kaldur's condition, she had no issues allowing it to leave her side, as it was unlikely he'd be able to do anything with it. Even if he was able to pick it up in his current state.
"How long until you are well again?"
[Action] Sep 2 | Mid-Day
"The are not normal for my species, and indicate the severity of the injury." If he were back at the Cave everyone would be growling at him for sitting up and even trying to stay conscious and talk right now. He's just (un)lucky that the nerves haven't been healed enough for him to feel most of it.
"I am hoping that by the end of this month, my own healing and the magic of the healers here will be able to have me up and about. Even so, I will not be ready to spar until at least the mid to end of next month, which I believe to be October."
He pauses, before continuing, but he actually trusts Looma, though he has not known her long, and he will have to explain to her in any case.
"Much of the damage was done to my nerves and muscles, and it will take at least that long for me to regain a base level for my skill. Much of the tissue must be regrown or healed, and then retrained."
He is stuck sitting here feeling utterly useless and lsiting all of the ways in which he will still remain useless for a while yet, and it is incredibly frustrating. Honestly, he's being generous with his ability to recover and assuming that there is no lasting damage from the coma itself.

If Looma sounded unimpressed, it was because she was. She was well aware that not all injuries could be hidden, and sometimes the wounds themselves were quite visible. But it was quite another thing entirely to draw attention to those injuries. Hardly the wisest choice for survival, whether in battle or dealing with predators.
"Between the two of you then, I hope someone is smart enough to let the scars remain. They serve as excellent reminders of past defeats and failures, so that they might not happen again."
She was tempted, perhaps unreasonably so, to simply stride on over and inspect the severity of the injuries herself. Less out of any sort of concern for his well being, and more of curiosity and her own interests. To see if there were anything special about the physiology of Kaldur's kind, and also form her own idea of when it was likely he would be fit to spar, if only to argue about it. Still, she decided that for now at least, it was best to let him recover.
"You also failed to answer my question. I wish to know what happened, especially who or what is responsible for your injuries."
So that she might prepare to do violent and unwise things of course, but there was no reason Kaldur had reason to know any of that. Yet.
[Action] Sep 2 | Mid-Day
"I hope that the muscles beneath heal and restructure well, first, before I need concern about the levels of scarring I have, though I would not be surprised for much scar tissue to remain."
No, Looma, no. No violent and unwise things.
"Due to the circumstances of our exit from Redgate, I had to ride home upon the dragon Sura." (Who is now dead and probably pretty picked by scavenger or cleaned away or something) "However, the blood-granite composition of the mountain weakened my already-low resistance to heat, as well as inhibiting some of my natural protection traits, and so contact with his scales caused deep injury."
So... it was an accident? Sort of?
[Action] Sep 2 | Mid-Day
She's teasing there, mostly. On the battlefield, if they were truly enemies, she certainly would. But as allies? No. She would fight with honor. Especially since they were going to be sparring, not attempting to kill one another.
"And I would not fear a little scarring, Atlantean. They are both marks of honor, and reminders of past mistakes. A constant reminder that you have survived grave dangers, and also how narrowly you escaped."
In other words, she kind of liked the idea. At least so long as they were battle related, which given the explanation, she was more than happy to believe. While he may not have earned them by battling the dragon, it certainly sounded as though his exit was not a peaceful one.
"If I were you, I would treasure any scars that may result from your injuries. And consider myself lucky. Should my father ever find me here, you will see some real scars."
Daddy dearest was missing an arm. And an eye. And had a few more less severe battle scars to his name on top of it. It was hard for her to hide her own eagerness to obtain such marks of her own, but she also understood well that they were not to be sought out, given their nature. She wished to have something honorable to attach to them, not her own foolishness.
"But, at least you survived. Now I need not find a new sparring partner!"
Or find a way to bring him back to life so she could kill him all over again for getting her hopes up and abandoning his word. That would have probably been time consuming.
