[ GOOD…… late night or super early morning, network. Witness the amazing Fire Ferrets in their natural habitat, if a bit sleep-mussed and underdressed. (Understatement, tbh.) Come on, if your pajamas aren’t “be shirtless” or “in a sports bra”, you’re just not doing things Republic City style in this weather.

The scene set in the rather large room is unnerving at best. Splashed against the background are scorch marks from recent firebending, and shadows are cast from the ripped and torn flooring — it looks like there was one hell of a fight. Off to the left, there’s a soft glow as Korra tries to heal a deep wound on her arm with her waterbending and Mako, holding a small flame in his hand for light, crouches over a dark, suspiciously person shaped thing on the floor. Next to it are two other suspiciously person shaped things, also not moving in a very “dead” fashion.

As Mako makes notes in a small logbook, he and Korra seem to be having something of a disagreement, with Korra hissing angrily and Mako trying to calm her down with steady, hushed tones. While they talk, he meticulously searches through the clothes on the things — let’s be honest, they’re corpses, three of them, lying on the bedroom floor — gathering the evidence he finds and apparently writing it down in his little book. He adds whatever he finds to a growing pile of trinkets... which at this point consists largely of knives, garotting rope, and other sketchy murderous tools. With a soft trill, the two cats who adopted Mako jump up on the bed, looking shaken and huddling protectively around a small green and gold snakelike creature. Naga, on the other hand, seems to be licking something from her lips with her long tongue, looking quite proud of herself, tail absently tapping on the mattress behind the kittens.

Bolin, looking suitably confused and sporting an oddly smug Pabu-scarf, is taking up the foreground and accepting the responsibility of having his priorities in place. Unlike some people, wow. ]

Uhhhh. Hey. So my name’s Bolin. Nice to meet you if I haven’t already met you. Nice to see you again if I have? [ You know, whichever. ] Got a quick question for anyone who could answer, it’d be great to have it cleared up: is there like a... running history of people getting a pet back for a boon, only then a month later it turns out that their pet can also grow about eight feet and tackle an assassin? Just. Just wondering.

[ He stops. Glances back at Mako and Korra. Purses his lips, and turns back. ]

Okay, so, one more question. About the assassin thing. Like… are they also a thing with a running history here?

[ in the background, the dead body rummaging and healing krew has finished their argument, and in the ensuing silence, you can hear their last snippy comments before the feed ends. ]

At least no one was kidnapped.

[ Mako says, completely deadpan. Korra’s eyes narrow and she shoots back: ]

Or arrested, huh Officer?

[ WOW, RUDE, KORRA. ]

[ SINCE YOU KNOW. JOHN CAN'T DIE. it's difficult to tell if this is an attempt at humor or not but by all accounts and purposes she seems pretty Not Joking about this. ]

And thanks for clearing up the pet thing, John. Hope they didn't do you too much damage over there?

They weren't too happy, no. Then the guards came pouring in and the one that was left used that... poison tooth thing. Could've sworn that was only in movies.

[ But you know. ]

Nothing physical, anyway. Political fallout might be a pain in the ass.

I'm pretty sure they were wearing Unseelie colors. [ all she knows is that they sure as hell weren't seelie, so unseelie is the next logical choice.

the implication here is that maybe john's new "friend" can just deal with this on her own. and it's not that korra bears any ill will to alyosha, it's just that... well, all the ill-will is focused inward, at herself. for botching things so royally. ]

[ mako nods in agreement with korra's assessment, his arms folded. ]

They were. But as Bolin and I ended up being involved, and we have diplomatic immunity at Redgate, it ends up being a bit of a mess. You think I want to explain to the guards why there are dead people in my room who tried to kill me?

[ You think he wants to find out which ones are greedier than they are loyal? ]

I'd say weapons count as possessions.

[ DONT SASS HIM DAD — slightly frustrated rolling of eyes here. ]

Weapons of distinguishable origin. They've filed the marks off of the blades from the workshops where they got them, and they haven't got any, you know, personal stuff.

My guess would be 'Caer Scima'.

Wait, so we stop deadly assassins from assassinating and it's a mess? Why do politics have to be so convoluted? [ IF THERE WEREN'T DEAD BODIES AND ATTEMPTED MURDER TO DEAL WITH

he'd be throwing his hands up and just going back to bed rn, because he obviously doesn't have the education required to follow this stuff. ]

[ He sighs. ]

Yeah, thanks. Tell her I say hi. [ Man. He has to start brushing up on his politician game or something. How does someone even do that? ] Oh-- glad you're alive, by the way. Not that I'm not usually, just considering this is kind of a special occasion and all.

[ This entire post is crazy shirtless. The true intent of these assassins, perhaps. ]

No worries there. You've got first dibs on front row seats. Juuuust as soon as I make sure it won't make him explode in the future. [ Since Pabu is his closest approximation of feeling parental concern towards someone and all. ]

[ Well if that's the case, who can blame them? ]

Like- literally explode?

Well, yeah. It's not a normal trick for a little guy like him! How do I know what it might end up doing down the line? [ He hasn't exploded or anything yet so that's a plus. Animal priorities and overactive imagination combine. ]

I don't know that they'd give you an exploding pet unless he'd be okay after he explodes.

Maybe. I know the Queen is really great and all. [ He doesn't... not trust her. She's really nice. Bolin gives Pabu an idle scratch behind the ears and then uses his free hand to start digging around for spare sheets. If Korra and Mako have time to argue and do dragon stuff, Mako must be done looking for evidence, and if Mako's done looking for evidence, they can work on covering these dead dudes up and moving them. ]

If nothing else, pissing us off with or without exploding ferrets isn't really in their best interests.

[ Bolin, John's pretty sure that Korra and Mako always have time to argue. ]

[ TRUE. ]

That's for sure. I mean, someone blowing Pabu up would make me pretty mad. Even if he was fine after it. [ Mostly sad and happy to have a non-dead ferret, but definitely mad. See, limits to his temper do exist! He fishes out the first sheet and haphazardly sort of chucks it over the snake-looking guy until he can find enough for all of them. Bolin's hope is to not have to ask any fairies about this, because that would be all kinds of hard to explain. ]

I think I'd be pretty mad with you. [ He likes Pabu, after all. Cute little bugger.

Not that he'll admit that. ]

[ He knew you were a great guy, John. ]

Uhhhhhh. Yes. Yeah. That might- I mean, it's not that it's not great to hear from you! Totally glad to know you're doing okay! Like hey, feel free to call and catch up anytime! [ The cheer may be a little forced because you know, moving bodies looms in the future, but it's a very genuine sentiment. John's gonna have a hug fully in waiting when next he's in the same neck of the woods. ] Now's just a little busy. That wacky road of life, huh?

Something like that. I should go soon anyway, I'm going to inform Alyosha of the fact that three assassins got past her guards.

Oh, man, that's a great idea! Last thing she needs right now is a big security hole, huh? [ i mean she'd probably regularly slaughter some assassins but it's better if she doesn't even have to. ]

Right. And considering they're supposed to be her allies, attacking her guests is a little rude.
