I offer my gratitude to those fighting the worms. [ here is a voice both measured and composed, albeit young. ] And gratitude is all I can give, barring my prayers. And they are given whole-heartedly for all of us. May the Warrior give you the strength and courage required for your victories. And may the Mother bless us all.

[ sansa stark has long come to doubt the efficacy of the seven new gods. she isn't entirely certain the old gods listen, either -- but their rustling leaves and independent ways give her more peace of late than anything the seven offer: incense and rituals. however! she has resigned herself to being alayne stone to those who are not immediately known to her or trusted by her. and alayne stone worships the new gods, not the old. she is meant to be exactly as petyr baelish described her: a pious bleater, whose ardent faith discourages unwanted questions. so she speaks of blessing of the seven, but holds the old gods in her heart. she only hopes that arya and her allies will forgive her this identity fraud across the lockets.

most of all, sansa doesn't want to disappoint the people to whom she'd promised her help. like in maegor's holdfast during the blackwater, sansa hopes to lift spirits and rouse bravery. perhaps if she voices her thankfulness, others will follow in kind.

before she ends, she has only one question -- the paranoid fugitive in her needs to know: ] These pendants are truly remarkable. Magic, is it? But more efficient by far than any raven. [ ... ] Can they be used to talk only to one person, and privately? If anyone has managed it, I would thank you to tell me how.

[isaac looks down at himself, then wipes away the dried blood from his face. he'll need to shower later, that's for sure.]

Yeah, I'm fine. This isn't my blood. None of it is, thankfully.

[actually, he may have gotten a few scrapes from falling a few times-- those had healed up and left bits of dried blood he's yet to clean away, as well.]

You look like you're doing okay.

As I said before, Isaac -- [ she answers with a ghost of a smile. ] I do not fight. My biggest burden is sitting safely in my chambers.

I remember.

[he shrugs, looking as nonchalant about it as possible. in all honestly, he'd been a bit concerned about her after their conversation. it's a little strange listening to someone who doesn't want to fight, or learn how to keep safe if something were to happen. locked doors aren't always a barrier to keep out the bad. he knows that from experience.]

How is that, anyway? You getting bored?

[it's meant to be a joke, but isaac's tone and expression don't match. there's a slight tug at his lips, but his tone is almost flat.]

Boredom is difficult to achieve with these pretty little necklaces.

[ a diplomatic answer. she supposes he wasn't simply asking about her leisure time, but she decides to answer as though he did. ]

[isaac stares at sansa for a moment, lips parting as he struggles with the right words. instead, he lets out a laugh, a short and soft sound that doesn't last very long.]

Well, as long as you're enjoying them.

[he gives her a crooked grin that he can't hold back anymore. her response still baffles him.]

...I only mean to say that they're better at bringing news than birds are.

[uh

excuse him he has to become more baffled because this is getting to be too ridiculous.]

Birds? You used birds to send messages?

Ravens, really. They're the only ones who actually can.

I thought people used doves way back when mailmen didn't exist.

[nice. you really know your history, isaac.]

I guess ravens are smarter, though. I think.

Some -- [ she informs him primly ] -- are so smart they know the ways to two other castles.

[he arches a brow at her. isaac doesn't really look, or sound, impressed when he responds.]

[a small scoff, then-]

So three was just out of the question?

[he manages a small grin. it's meant to be a joke.]

[ she hears his wry insincerity. she may even recognize it with a softening of her features. but when she speaks, it's as if she doesn't dare but take his question seriously: ] I've heard of some that could manage up to five. But...they are ravens of legend.

[oh she ... didn't get his joke, or didn't want to humor him. still, as he thinks about it, the concept of having ravens of legend is a little funny. at least, to him.]

You had legendary ravens.

[it's supposed to be a question, but it comes out as more of a statement.]

Yes. And why not? Impressive things should pass into legend, I think.

I don't know. Usually things of legend are ... more legendary. Dragons, werewolves, [hah] fairies.

Things that aren't supposed to exist.

[but look where they are. look what he is. who is he to talk when it comes to urban legends? he's not, at all. he doesn't do much reading on them.]

Dragons exist. Or the used to. [ or is that they do again? it's hard to suss out. ]

What is a werewolf? [ is it anything like a direwolf? because she'd be okay with that. ]

I know. I met Daenerys' [he pronounces her name correctly this time!] dragons a few times.

[and he realizes that he's listed things that exist in this world together, and that makes him pause a moment before responding,]

They're men or women who turn into wolf-like creatures at will, but they're mostly known for shifting during a full moon. I've only heard of one werewolf that can shift into a wolf completely, so I guess it's pretty rare.

They change into the animal?

[ she's heard stories and legends about those who could leap from their own bodies into the bodies of animals. but to alter one's own self? ] Incredible.

Yeah.

[oh. isaac didn't expect that reaction!]

You think so?

I think so. Wolves are --

[ ah. this is a tricky line to toe. alayne ought not to care so much for them. but... ] They're admirable creatures. I'm not certain I'd care to be one. [ not wholly; not completely. ]

[isaac almost preens at the idea of being an admirable creature. at least, partially admirable. sure, he looks a bit smug for a moment, but it disappears quickly. being a werewolf had its perks, but ... there are a lot of horrors that come with it.]

Mind if I ask why?

[he's a little curious.]

It depends on the question -- [ so she might buy herself time ] -- would you know why they're admirable, or why I would not want to be one in bones and flesh?

[ unbeknownst perhaps even to her, the two answers will be the same. ]
