( TEXT ) ( 001 )

[ The post comes across with a name that, really, no one will recognise. It's one word, simple: ADLER. Thank goodness for the text option so he has no need to attempt to hide his voice or face; for now his name is enough. ]

Tell me about your world. Your wars. Your powers. Tell me about the things that you fight for, what you continue to cherish even here.

Educate me.

I am Greening Grandemalion, the seventh son of King Ror of Lienid. Lienid is one of seven kingdoms, the only one not connected to the remaining six and is also one of the most peaceful and prosperous of them all.

In the Seven Kingdoms there are people called Gracelings. In all of them but Lienid, Gracelings become the property of the king, unless they have a useless or uncontrollable Grace. At which point, they're returned to their families with an apology since they make business difficult.

Not many people care to deal with Gracelings or their families.

Gracelings though are people who are part with a gift, a skill that they excel at over all others. It doesn't keep them from developing other skills but all through their life, that's what they're best at and typically can't be beaten at it. And they're identified by their eyes: Gracelings all have mismatched eyes.

I am a Graced fighter.

Yes. As soon as their eyes settle, Gracelings are given to the rulers of the connected kingdoms.

Nothing but many Gracelings aren't fit to fight, having Graces like being able to cook or determine if it will be a good year for the harvests, most don't have the courage to fight their rulers. And Gracelings are vastly outnumbered, general speaking.

I hope that it will change someday though.

It isn't something that will change quickly or easily, I don't think. It took some work for me to convince the Lady Katsa to refuse to obey her kin and leave. She'd the first Graceling that I know of that's ever done that.

Perhaps it will happen while we're still alive but I'm sure you're right. And I know, once Prince Raffin ascends the throne, he'll change things. At least in the Middluns.

In a manner of speaking. Prince Raffin is Katsa's cousin so he has a good idea of how miserable the lives of Gracelings can be. And he always hated how his father used Gracelings, especially Katsa.

I hope that you are right.
