I am Councilman Tarrlok, Representative of the Northern Water Tribe in Republic City.

[...A title he's pretty sure has been revoked by now, but he likes using it and most of the people he's already met have never even heard of Republic City and won't dispute his claim to a seat on the council.]

While I can't say I appreciate being kidnapped, I understand that war is difficult and I'll do my best to aid in the situation. If you ever need any help, let me know.

[That was only partly out of genuine concern, it was also partly to make himself look good and partly because he didn't have anything better to go back home to so he may as well try to be useful here.]

Well, that and everyone else you arrested. And the bloodbending. Annnd kidnapping Korra, that was kind of extreme.

So yeah, an apology would be nice. [ the jail's probably got better temperature regulation than the attic anyway lbr ]

Thank you. You know, whether you mean it or not, I still appreciate the gesture. [ No like he's got a hand on his chest and he's nodding super sagely. You hit him RIGHT HERE, TARRLOK. ] I mean, if we can't have civility, what can we have, right?

Yes, I mean it. It's a long story, but my reign of terror is over.

[He sighs.] I suppose you'll find out eventually. I don't want to go into too much detail, but Amon is my brother.

That's just so weird. I mean, maybe not super weird on, uh. On your end, or anything. I guess. Hard to picture Amon as, you know, a human. Person.

Believe me, I know. It's been over twenty years since I've seen him, and he was nothing like that back then.

[He pauses.] I'm not planning on switching to his side because of it, or anything like that.

That's good to know! Like, I like to think if I didn't see Mako for twenty years and he turned up again all creepy and evil, I'd make the same choice. Sometimes you just have to do your own thing. I mean, your thing was still pretty kidnap-y and despicable, but at least it was yours.

I don't intend to make it my 'thing' on a regular basis. It's more trouble than it's worth.

[Kidnapping the avatar causes people to freak out a bit who knew?]

Yeahhh. Maybe knock that up to a "never" basis? [ he can try.... ]

I'll try my best not to kidnap anyone anymore.

I'm sensing a real lack of commitment here, you know? [ Bolin you're sensing jackshit. ] But I guess unlearning this stuff takes time and effort, so it's a good start. Have you considered finding a hobby? Like, "wow, I really feel like I should kidnap someone awesome- but I won't. I'll just channel my energy into this needlepoint instead."

I have plenty of hobbies. I read, I organize my files, I analyze current events...

[Wow that sure sounds exciting doesn't it!]

See, that's all... work. I mean, no offense, but that's probably the least relaxing stuff I've ever heard of doing as a hobby. But the bright side is, you've got plenty of time to figure stuff out while you're here! Like, uh... get a pet. Write a book? Read better books?

I've written many books. If you ever went to the library, you might know that.

[And they're all boring legal documentation.]

My brother isn't here, so I have no reason to kidnap anyone, do I?

I don't know. I don't know you very well! What if kidnapping was secretly your actual hobby? [ Then boy would he look foolish. ] And, uh. Okay, that's a fair point, I really don't do the library too much. For a while they'd just kinda kick me out because they thought I was trying to sleep there, and then these days I'm not really big on the reading anyway... really nice architecture, though. So what did you write? Can you branch it out into detective novels or something? Are you big on reading romance?

Essays on the current political climate and some legal documentation in my younger years, mostly. I'm not planning on writing any detective novels, and I certainly don't read romance.

Well, we can work on that. It's not like the idea is to get you doing stuff you don't like, I guess. Talk about being a tough sell, though.

Perhaps when you're older you'll understand that there's more to life than playing sports and reading detective novels and...whatever else it is you kids do.

More, yes. [ He will be even more aware of that after Redgate goes down in glorious flames probably. ] But when you say it like that, it really sounds like you know there's more to life than political essays and shady motives, too. I hear crazy good things about finding balance these days!

You don't get to be head of the council at my age without being a bit of a workaholic. [Maybe Korra considered him 'old', but amongst people of similar ranking he was noticeably younger.]

But I'll try to find something. There is no council here and I don't like wasting time, so I'll have to fill it somehow.

Hmmm. Sure, I'll take it! Putting the effort in is probably the most important part of the whole setup.

I'm glad you find my life goals acceptable.
