[Granted, Stefen hasn't been here that long, but he's already restless. He isn't much of an explorer--even in a place he knows, let alone a strange one--and, truthfully, it's dangerous and if there's anything a Bard knows how to avoid it's danger and discomfort.

So instead, he sits, gittern in his lap for a moment or two before he begins a song. It makes him feel better, even if he isn't doing anything besides playing, not using his Gift or his voice at all. It's something familiar, at the very least, and he sighs when it's over, then makes a face.]

Perhaps I just haven’t been here long enough, but I imagine I’m not the only one who feels they’ll go mad in white linen if I stay here much longer. [A pause.] Not that the place is without its charms, surely, but… [Sigh.] Does one ever get used to it?

I don't really know. Because it is. Maybe I just like how it sounds best.

Doesn't seem like a very strong answer. I don't think I've ever seen one of those before where I'm from but I guess that's a lot more portable than a cello or something. Are you a musician, or is this a hobby?

I'm a Bard. So it's definitely more than a hobby.

A Bard. [There's a mildly critical look like he's trying to decide if Stefen's serious or not. He's mostly thinking Shakespearian but that's--well, it's not impossible, but still.] How do you even become a Bard?

You show up at the Collegium and are accepted, I suppose. I was...rather a unique case.

[That doesn't mean a whole lot to him, honestly, but the words "unique case" are what intrigue him.]

Unique in a good way, or a bad way?

Very much a good way.

So what happened? Or is it kind of one of those things you can't talk about?

I was snatched right off the street by the rather...assertive Bard Lynell, told I belonged to Valdemar, and deposited in the Collegium at Haven without so much as an audition.

Kinda wish that happened where I'm from. [Other than it sounds kind of sketchy.] Who's Valdemar anyway?

Valdemar is the country I'm from. I suppose he was a man, too, a long time ago.

Wonder what all of that means in a place like this. Does that mean they want you to be a Bard here instead?

I don't know. But I also don't know what else I could be.

...there's gotta be something else you've wanted to be besides that. What about options?

Not especially. I didn't have much time to worry beyond the next day when I was small and I rather enjoy being a Bard. I wouldn't want to do anything else. All of my Gifts are Bardic, besides, so no, there's really nothing else.

[Sounds like this guy's all set, truth be told.]

…I mean I get it. My sister and I pretty much want nothing more than to be on stage for the rest of our lives. A lot of people don't see it that way though and think it's kind of dangerous to just focus on one goal so much, so…it's cool. It's cool that you're doing exactly what you want.

I suppose it must be different in Valdemar, then.
