Among the elves of Arda long hair is a symbol of great beauty, indeed.
I cannot believe they would be so cruel as to do that, they have not done so to me before.
They may perhaps arrange it in a way more attention catching than you would like, however.

I have received a bow from the Lady Galadriel with a thread of her hair wound about the string.
It has been the greatest bow I have ever owned.
