[ such a profession is unknown to her, but stiles has explained some occupations and tenets of his world and this one in particular piques her interest. sansa stark could make use of such a man who might be bound by her confidentiality. of course, she does not quite understand the ins and outs of the arrangement.

[ lawyer. ] My apologies if I've gotten it wrong; I'm only a simple girl and I am unwise in these matters. I want to learn about the things that are mysteries to me.

[ like whether a lawyer's strange binding powers of argumentation would even apply in these lands. once her conversations are finished, she snaps the locket shut and can be found in the library -- where she organizes books she doesn't care to read, because the practise soothes her and distracts her mind from its darker thoughts. or else come the evening she sits in her chambers, and allies of hers are welcome to stop and knock. ]

As a Herald for His and Her Majesty, I believe I fill that role, though I have never been called lawyer. [Regardless, he gazes at the locket intently.] How can I aid you, my lady?

[ it takes her a moment to respond she is quiet -- careful. ] Could you first do me the kindness of describing your roles and responsibilities, my lord?

[ i must be certain. ]

I would be honored to do so. [Most of Valdemar - and other kingdoms in his world - know what a Herald does, but there are some that have never encountered one.] Heralds follow the orders of the King and Queen; they are sent to various parts of the kingdom - or even into other kingdoms - to bring peace. We have been known to help rebuild houses, listen to disputes over lands, wealth or livestock and even become soldiers to fend off bandits and enemies who mean to do harm.

And you have done all of these things yourself?

I have indeed. I am also the Herald that is closest to the King and Queen. [Very close considering the Princess is actually his child.]

A Master of Laws, perhaps?

I can serve that role. [Though laws undoubtedly change from kingdom to kingdom and world to world.] What do you wish to know?

I was told some men of law are bound to keep their clients' confidences. Is this true?

That is true. I would not relate the details of our discussions to anyone.

And how is it that your...clients are made certain of this? Do you take vows?
