[The locket is held slightly askew, as the woman holding it has never done so before with this particular item. She's had experience with similar things, but she's still getting used to the locket. The Elven woman's face looks worried and a little sad, as if she's expecting bad news.]

Anyone who can hear me... I have heard talk of one who was killed recently. And the little I have heard... troubles me. The name I have heard is Celegorm, and he is described as an Elf with golden hair... among other things. I can only hope I am mistaken, but the description is very similar to someone I know. Someone I once called Tyelkormo.

If anyone knew him, and could tell me more about him... and how he died... I must know.

Please. ...He may be my son.

[She looks curiously at the animal]

What is that? I've not seen one before.

[ But Straton is a good distraction, and she rubs his ears. ]

A bandersnatch. We don't have them where I'm from, but Celegorm said he sounds a bit like a bear and a girl I know, Alice, recognizes them.

And I am an artist.

It would not surprise me that he would help you with an animal. He always had a knack for them.

[ She immediately perks up a little, though she catches herself at the last minute -- now probably isn't the time to ask, though she really wants to. ]

I wouldn't have known how to take care of him at all, without Celegorm's help.

He had more friends among the beasts than among our people, my thirdborn.

What else can you tell me of them?

By choice? Or did they not like him?

By his own temperament. My eldest was a crafter. My secondborn made music. My thirdborn loved the wilds

Either, I suppose? But more of my sons would be more eagerly awaited.

Maglor has stayed at the Station, for the most part. Both he and Celegorm arrived in the Unseelie court, but I think Maglor was tired of fighting.

He was always the most like me. I have little taste for such things.

His hands are burned. He said- he said it was from the Silmarils. That none of them can touch them.

The jewels were hallowed, so that they would scorch any evil that dared to touch them...

He's not evil. [ She's firm in that, even though of all people, she thinks Maglor's mother would understand the most. ] He did bad things -- Celegorm too, though I can't speak for your other children -- but he, himself, is not evil.

No. He is not evil. He could never be. His heart is my heart, his song is my song. I led him in the journey from boy to man, but when the day came that madness prevailed, he went where I could not bear to follow. It was foreseen that only misery, grief and death would await him across the sea. Pained, desperate, and burdensomely loyal, yes. But never truly evil. I have looked upon that which is, and it is not my son.

The day he marched north, he took part of my soul with him, the part that nourished and cared for him all the years before. So long as he has that, he could never be evil. And if he has lost it, I will give it to him once again.

I think he might need it. He seemed sad even before Celegorm- before what happened.
