Click. The video’s on but the picture’s fuzzy black. Muffled:]

[Nice. The picture changes, but only to lighten to grey and then offer tumbling fragments of senseless colour. The locket has been plucked from wherever it lay; a pocket, or face-down somewhere. The transmission ends.

Three minutes later, the video returns, this time with actual footage. The camera lens captures tumbling dark hair and a the lower half of a pale, fine-boned face; a young man, apparently, but when he speaks his voice is as creaky as a dying man’s whisper.]

—see, but can it catch my image?

[Grin. Apparently that’s a joke. He moves the locket so that his whole face comes into view. With pleasure:]

Yes. Would you look at that. The myth-peddlers embarrass themselves again.

My good will to... [A long, thoughtful sigh. Hiss? He visibly gives up on niceties.] Fuck it. Tell me, what is there to do in Mair besides avoid or perpetrate mugging?

[ The look of this guy is familiar enough to make Harry wary. Pale, fine looks- the voice, among a general lack of information, keeps the suspicions at bay for the time being, however. ]

Why would you be worried about it capturing your image or not? [ Might as well put detective skills to use. ]

[The Brucolac's eyes don't quite focus on Harry's image in the locket; there's a moment when he frowns, holds it away from him, holds it closer—then stops. Harrumph. Hard to spy the details of what he's seeing. His sight's fucked, he thinks, he's getting old.]

Because it's rude to see and not be seen.

[That's an answer. He sounds preoccupied and flicks the locket to indicate it, levelling a thoughtful gaze at it.] I've never seen this done without a communicatrix pumping puissance to keep the connection viable. How does it work, do you know?

[ This is an odd display, even for Harry, who's had little experience with technology despite coming from a modern day Earth. ]

These? No. Maybe whoever created them magically linked them all so that when a change is made to one, it's reflected on the others. But I'd have to try taking these apart, and that could be dangerous.
