D'you reckon if I asked nicely, I could find some caramel biscuits 'round here?
[she starts off the recording unceremoniously, giving her locket a squinty sort of look. it'd be a lie to say she can pretend she's on the phone or a walkie, but least it's less weird. and considering she's walked into the fucking land of the fairies, she can do with less weird.]
I'm not fussed about the brand or nothing, but I don't want anything their sort makes. Couldn't compare to a freshly opened box of 'em, could it? The food's fine, but I want biscuits, not fairy dust. I know you can get loads of cakes if you ask, [which is dead strange] but I'm not talking about anything fancy. Bit too sweet, anyway, if you ask me.
[and then she exhales. magic lockets. now she's seen everything.]
This had better be working. If someone's having me on about these stupid things — don't suppose they'd come with instruction manuals.
[now she just sounds like her dad, but at least she can decipher one better than he can.]

voice;
Wait, why would you want a caramel biscuit?
voice;
[she's a bit skeptical herself, but it's not like she thinks that boy was lying.]
To eat, why else?
voice;
Ryan.]
Who told you they'd give us stuff in exchange for favors?
voice; omg the flower leis
she could correct the misapprehension — sees where he's confused, really — but it's funnier not to, isn't it?]
Someone else on the lockets. Haven't got a name, sorry, but it's as weird as anything else here; so I reckon it might be true.
voice; perfect amirite?
That's the first time I'm hearing this, but I guess it makes sense. Kind of makes you wonder how big you can ask, doesn't it? Maybe they can bring in people.
voice; really is
voice;
Well, I'd rather leave but if I can't do that I might as well bring people here, right? What's wrong with that?
voice;
[not that it shows, and that makes her as uneasy as anything.]
voice;
voice; lmao i'm so sorry
her tone's sweet, smile much the same, belie her actual answer.]
Sure. Nothing to me if you like making cannon fodder of your mates.
voice; no never apologize
Who says they'd be used for anything though? My friends would figure it out just fine. [Though judging by his tone, that's debatable and he knows it.]
voice;
[she relents, though, softens that harshness out of her voice till she sounds more tired than anything else.]
Not your fault if you've never seen a war before, but it is if you act like an idiot.
voice;
I didn't think being optimistic was being idiotic. [Sharpay probably would think so though.] But you're right. I mean the biggest war I've seen was the day of the callbacks for Twinkle Towne. I'm from a high school where singing and performing actually can solve pretty much anything. My friends and I only became friends because Troy and Gabriella got the leads in the winter musical last year. This whole war thing? Not exactly imaginable where we're from. And maybe it's stupid but I at least know if they were here we'd figure something out. Doesn't that count for something?
voice;
Christ. I never said not to be optimistic. [it keeps you going when nothing else will, being able to think the war has to end sooner or later; she knows that.] No point in fighting if you aren't, is there? You can hope without being stupid.
[he reminds her of her classmates; people with normal lives, people she doesn't know how to relate to anymore.]
Yeah. Counts for something.
