1st Chassé | Action for the Bailey in Seelie Court/Video for Both Courts
[When the video turns on, it's actually a small stream of what appears to be someone spinning the locket over and over in the palm of their hand. There's a small laugh that follows, along with a tone of disbelief.]
Not quite what I meant when I said I wanted a new cell phone.
[Give it a moment before the video rights itself to reveal a blonde boy wearing a hat and stretched out on a bench in the Bailey of Caer Glaem. He appears to just be regarding the locket thoughtfully before he continues.]
Okay! So…hi. [Yes, thank you Ryan.] I'm Ryan, and I'm gonna be honest here I'm still not sure I'm not just dreaming all of this. I've been told I have a pretty vivid imagination. [There's a lopsided grin that follows.]
I guess I'm just sort of curious. Is anybody happier to be here than wherever they came from? [He's also got the map the fairies gave him clutched in his hand and he sort of just waves it in the video feed.] …also anybody know how to read a map? ["Besides everyone but me?" It's a sheepish request and he doesn't particularly like asking, but why learn how to read a map when you come from a place where you have chauffeurs, a GPS, or a twin sister who drives a narcissism mobile? He'd always assumed he'd learn how to read maps during the summer before he went to college and that's still a few months off.] I want to check out the rest of these places but I'm not sure where to start. Thanks a lot.

He perks, a bit more intently.]
Oh, yeah?
You mean, like, now?
[He believes he recognizes Caer Glaem's bailey off what little passing exploring he's gotten around to.]
[Aye, making friends is ever a good thing.] I think I recognize that place -- I'll run over!
[That said with a look back up, down what ought to be the direction he's supposed to be headed with a turn of his ears likewise. Ready to get the locket back on and go.]
[Video -> Action]
It doesn't take him overlong to make it, only a little longer to spot Ryan. He hasn't shut his illusion off, however, so the rusty wolf isn't what he'll be spotting at all.
But the kid who'll be slowing down a mo' to wave, flash a beam, and call "Hi!" before fastwalking on over should have a recognizable voice.]
-- I made it. [You don't say, lad. And then he realizes what he has or rather hasn't done.]
It's me, Toboe, by the way! [Laughing a hint.] ...In case you couldn't tell.
[Action]
You're a person. [Wow. Wait. Hold on.] I mean hi. [Smooth.] What was...? [Yeah. Yeah, you've got some 'splainin' to do, Mister.]
[Action]
Oh - this is something that wolves do, where I come from that is.
Uh - actually, I was doing it the whole time! But I guess it doesn't show up on the lockets, huh...
[Action]
[Action]
Well, uh -- [How does one put it - it's a bit like explaining not how to make a fist but how to control one's muscles to make a fist. It's something that he can do, but...] -- like this.
[And thus lets the action speak for itself - he drios the illusion. In a blink any vision of a boy will have cut down half in height to the average non-fairy watching. Replaced by a wolf, standing fairly straight. Tail swaying, tilt of the head as if to say "Did you see that"?]
[Action]
It's like magic and Christmas and all of the things he really likes and all of the things he's always sort of daydreamed about when he was stuck in classes that weren't even relevant to his life (because really, who cares about the war of 1812?) and he suddenly just actually claps in delight, laughing a little as he looks on.]
Whoa. That is seriously a very cool trick. [And though this makes more sense, he figures he should be polite to his new acquaintance (friend? How does friendship work when you're not dragged into it?)] Um. Be whatever's more comfortable for you, I guess. I get it now. [Sort of. He doesn't get how it works but details.]
[Action]
[Handling a map's bound to look less off and cumbersome to a human as it'll scan through this, anyhow.]
Uh - one of my pack was happier not doing it, back home, but it had more to do with his pride as a wolf. [Pads and trails off - casual reminiscence.
And he blinks at refreshed attention - back on task!] But, er - anyway! Maps... right?
[He's rolled and managed to secure his under the bracelet he's got on - pulls it out with certainly less effort than it took to get it under there.]
[Action]
Is it bad that I can't even tell where north is on this thing?
[Action]
Not really - me, neither.
[He edges into place to take something of a peek at the orientation of Ryan's map, for comparison - occasional open-eyed look off from peering at his. And - yes, those do look like mountains! Flips his.]
Where are we...? [That is, where's Caer Glaem on the map...?]
[Action]
[Action]
[...and quite a lot of investment it'd be to cover ground between them if you're not making a mission of it!]
[Action]
What I want more than anything is to get to the Station I've heard about. I want to see what's out there and if I can figure out how to connect to my friends. [It's a vain, vain hope but it's a start.] Think the horses are free for anybody to take? [He's a little distracted, so he's not even thinking about what he's saying.] My sister and I used to take equestrian lessons when we were kids before she decided that they got in the way of our other stuff.
[Action]
[A little of a "Dad said no - let's ask Mom" approach in mind, in case; if it's against the rules, maybe there's a horse in those stables who could be beseeched to lend time and energy to a journey. Station, Station, would that he knew what that'd look like on the map...]
Er -- what's supposed to be at the Station" [Curiously-asked - first he's heard of it but in passing!]
[Action]
Oh. From what I heard the Station's the place with all of the technology. TVs, internet, that sort of stuff. It's really common where I'm from so it's pretty weird not to have it easily accessible. I want to see if I can power on my phone or send emails to people. See what I can bring back to the castle, too.
[Action]
[He'd be anything but averse to seeing if he can poke around the horses, if nothing else.
Moving to the Station, he gives an... acknowledging tilt of his head]
All the technology... [A repetition for its own sake - and much of what came after he doesn't recognize. What sort of technology; whose technology?] What're e-mails?
[Can they travel across dimensions?]
[Action]
[It will never cease to surprise him that people don't understand technology, but the look on his face isn't annoyed or disgusted. He's quizzical, if anything.] E-mails are like…you know how you can write letters to people? E-mails just travel a lot faster through the internet. Kind of like text messages? [Sound familiar? No?] They can travel all over the world so I'm kind of hoping maybe it'll extend to other worlds, too.
