[ Oscar had been out of touch for a good few weeks thanks to traveling and doing a little bit of one on one reconnaissance in a nearby village. It was just a few farms, an inn, a tavern or two and of course a few tradesmen. Towns liked to spring up near a castle after all and Oscar was getting a lay of the land!
... and also sampling a few wine bottles but that just helped get the tongues wagging, you know. But then he woke up one day and rolled over and remembered he had a locket and it wasn't some fair lady's locket but rather his. After a brief moment of scrolling, he suddenly bolted out of bed and rushed out of the inn, calling for his companions to follow him with jacket in tow and his shirt sleeves half buttoned!
Struggling, he turned on his locket and attempted to make a call to his friends and failed completely, broadcasting it to all and sundry. ]
What news of this army have we heard? Is it a large group? How many days before they reach the castle? Gilbert, Elliot, Alice! Please tell me you're safe!
[ And, you know, not mixed up in this mess because odds are, they're all right smack in the middle of the whole dang thing. Curse your noble hearts! ]
((ooc: Due to hiatus, Oscar's been doing some snooping into how the general populace feels about caer glaem and the war (general) for the last two weeks and so he hasn't been checking his locket too often because he's been busy. Feel free to action it up at the village if you like or while he's enroute back to the castle! I figure he's probably at least a few days ride out from it. ))

We are a spare few days' march from the castle walls, Seelie stranger. Shall I reach it, I will see that every Seelie head is cloven from its body and set upon spikes to line the road.
[ Saying no more, he snaps the locket shut. ]
Private Video
Now, come now, sir! Surely there's more then can be done then start a massacre. There are women and children here in the castle!
[ and they're such sweet, young things too! ]
video;
[Guess who else has just received word of impending war.]
video;
I discovered a nearby village on the map and thought to pay my respects to the good men and women of the town! Didn't you get my note?
video;
[Back when things were safe! And the possibility of war wasn't sneaking up on them quite so quickly.]
Which village is it? How far away?
video;
Hmm.... a three day journey to the West, if you take it at a walk. I should be at the castle by morning if I rush!
[ which he intends to do post haste. He's practically at his horse right now! ]
video;
[He may be a duke, but he was never qualified to take a Chain, and Gil doubts that this sort of argument is something he'd be able to talk his way out of or end over a glass of wine.]
video;
Are you suggesting I stay away when woman and children could be in danger? I can still pull the trigger of a gun if I have to, you know!
[ and his sword, don't forget his sword. Just because he doesn't have a chain, doesn't mean he can't fight in his own way, young man! HE'S COMING BACK HOME AND THAT'S FINAL. ]
video;
[Actually, when Oscar puts it that way, that's exactly what Gilbert is suggesting. He closes his eyes tightly and takes a deep breath.]
Even if you ride all of the way back here, none of us should be staying in this castle. It would be better to evacuate and stay where you are now, where things are neutral. Already, people are talking about leaving.
video;
I'll come and help where I can. Even if I join up with a group that's leaving, it's better then staying.
[ although he might take a few moments to warn the mayor of this tiny little town just in case. They're close enough, after all, that their village might end up trampled by the enemy coming towards them.
He paused. ] What are the others doing? Are they still in the castle? [ you know, since half of them are unseelie, technically, and all. ]
video;
Most of them. I haven't seen Vincent for a few days.
video;
Ah... that's good. Vincent can take care of himself, I think. And Sharon? [
Are we assuming they know Sharon is there?and of course Kevin, but... Well. Maybe Kevin could take care of himself too. He certainly insisted on trying, anyway! ]video;
...Sharon?!
[Oooh man, thank goodness Kevin is Kevin and not Break, because Break would be snapping his subordinate's neck at this moment.]
video;
Oh? You didn't know? She arrived at the same time we did. [ roughly. He would have sworn that Sharon and Gilbert would have run into each other eventually...
And no worries! Oscar's certain someone would have come to Gilert's rescue with a giant cart full of cake to distract Break. Eventually... ]
video;
[Ten heart attacks, Oscar. Ten.]
She'sbeenhereallthistimehowdidImissher?? Her grandmother will kill me, Oz will kill me!
video;
No worries, old chap! I'm sure Sharon won't hold a grudge against you at all. She's a good girl!
[ then again, her grandmother was positively scary. Even Rufus Barma didn't mess with her! Although Oz... yeah, you're on your own with Oz. ]
video;
Hah.
Haha.
Hahahahahahaha--]
Y-you're right, she'll kill me herself...!
video;
whoa, hey! Hold up those horses, Gilbert. You're not dying on his watch! ]
Perhaps if you gave her a box of chocolates or a new romance novel to read when you meet her that might smooth things over. I've heard she's rather fond of those.
[ mostly because after getting your cheek bitten once or twice, one learns the reason why! ]
video;
[Don't mind him, Oscar, he's just going to continue talking to you as he rushes out of whatever room in the castle he's in and starts making a mad dash through the hall.]
video;
But he chuckled, watching Gilbert run off and (almost idly), he leaves one last parting shot. ]
Well, if you must, you must, but don't you think it'd be more efficient to leave her a message on her locket? I'm sure that'd be easier to do then hunting her throughout the castle!
[ and meanwhile, Oscar will just saunter on over the stables and get his butt on a horse and meet Gilbert in a day or two! Just in time for a battle, how fabulous! ]
video;
Leave her a message...?
[How?]
video;
Why are you asking him? But despite the sweat now dampening his collar, Oscar puts on a brave face and, um... ]
You just write her name in on the locket and, um, leave a note, I think. [ Oscar tugged at said collar. ] I'm sure it can be done! [ he hopes ]
video;
I'll try that, tha-!
[And in smashing the face of the locket he ends up cutting the call off in the middle of what would have been a "thank you". He'll just have to tell him in person when he sees him later.]
private video;
We've been in this place the last few weeks. I don't intend to fight when I'm unsure about the cause, but I doubt your people will treat me any differently if they find out I'm from the other castle!
[And have a glare that says "thanks for nearly stating I've been crashing in the enemy's castle because I put family and friends first but becoming a prisoner of war would really suck so I somehow managed to lay low till now".]

I can't believe that everyone would do such a thing! Just as I refuse to believe everyone in your court would do the same to me. We're human after all, and not all of us choose to be murderers.
[ nope, they just kind of followed where one was lead. There wasn't a choose there at all! But he breathes a sigh of relief and simply runs a hand through his hair. ]
I'm glad you and the others are safe, though. Are you returning to the other castle then?
[ are you taking Gil back with you? He will miss that wonderful and yet sorry excuse for a son. Especially since they hadn't really had all that much time to relax since they were reunited those few months ago. ]

[Really, he'd made it this far, obviously enough of them were chill about it. But he thinks it would be foolish to assume that no one would. This is exactly why he's stuck around just in case Vincent or that annoying Chain hadn't gotten that through their heads.]
I think we should as soon as this calms down. I've heard the journey is shorter now, and we'll probably be better off getting information from both castles.

[ he sighed ]
You'll stay in touch, won't you? I don't want to think of what might happen to you in that other place. There's a world here that we know so very little about still.
[ Which of course was the rub in all of this. They simply didn't know enough about the natives or the dangers that lurked around every corner. heck, strange things have been happening left and right! ]
no subject
Fine. I'm perfectly aware we don't know much about this place. No matter what they're saying here, though, it's not that bad over there.
[He survived his family (mostly), Caer Scima is nothing.]
no subject
Well, perhaps, but you'll still take care, won't you? With all the strange creatures we still know so very little about running loose, who knows what trouble you might land in! That Grindlow certainly didn't do you a favor!
[ although maybe he had done one for Oscar, but even so. Lost and stranded in the middle of a field. What if there were bears! Or a porcupine! ]
