memory | open to both courts
[The memory starts off at night, large and colorful firecrackers lighting up the sky. The sounds of people laughing and being merry can be heard all around in what is obviously a large celebration of some kind. There is food and drink in everyone's hands and if there is one thing off about this very happy memory is that almost everyone seen have large, furry bare feet and in comparison to the one person there who is wearing shoes they are also very, very short.
The one person who sticks out among all the Hobbits here is a very tall and elderly-looking man dressed completely in gray with an equally gray pointy hat and beard. He seems preoccupied with some of the fireworks when suddenly a very small child runs up from behind with a wooden sword and begins to promptly smack his backside with it, giggling madly like children do.
Of course the tall man, in good humor, turns around to playfully fight back with the small child, laughing all the while with the boy until a woman's voice calls out in surprise.]
Bilbo! Bilbo! [A young woman with dark, bouncy curls in a dark red dress comes running up to the tall man, Gandalf and young Bilbo, gently pulling the toy from him with a disapproving look that lasts all of five seconds.] Bilbo, no that is very impolite!...
[The memory fades with Belladonna, Bilbo's mother, turning to Gandalf with an apologetic smile while Bilbo looks up at both of them still in good spirits.]

Fauntlings usually are, as precious as they are high-spirited and horribly curious to which I cannot deny I was either one. [He means it teasingly.] I remember being especially curious- a little too much for my own good.

There is hardly anything wrong with that. And you can only be 'too curious,' I think, when it becomes dangerous.

Yes, I do agree with you there... [He can already name a few recent experiences that would fit the 'curious enough to be dangerous' category.] For young hobbits in such a large world almost everything could be dangerous. Even a trip to the market isn't safe if you aren't careful.

Well, you clearly did not run into too much danger or I would not have the pleasure of speaking with you now. [Nod.] And that is true enough but many things can be dangerous.
