It's a rather peaceful scene that appears in the locket. Woods filled with the sounds of nature and mushrooms that might make you grow or perhaps shrink. In the middle of these woods sits Will, waiting and clearly worrying over something that is beyond his control. This is a Will who still has his heart and still feels as deeply as anyone can who has found true love. A rustle of leaves and his excitement shows, only for his smile to fall as he sees who appears: The Queen of Hearts.

"Will Scarlet I presume?"

Their interaction doesn't last long, but her words have rebroken a heart that had nearly mended at the idea of being reunited with his love. Whatever hope he had was taken from him and the pain that he feels is simply too much. The idea comes to him in a flash. The Queen of Hearts alone has the ability to fix what she broke and so he asks:

"I know what you do. I know what you do to people's hearts; I want you to do that to me."

It's a request born of pain and desperation. Now heartless, Will is off to become the man he is in this world.

[Celebrían looks ill, hand covering her mouth and face pale, a trail of tears running down her cheeks. She can't imagine letting someone do that to her, she can't imagine someone living that way. It's no way to live at all, feeling nothing.

It's better to be dead.]

She was wrong. She is wrong. Love is not weakness, to have a heart is to live.

[She speaks from experience.]

Pain and joy are both ways to remind yourself that you are alive. A way to grow.

[This is...awkward to say the least. Tears and caring when she should, well, she should be doing something other than those two things. He'd pissed her off once, hurt her in a way he hadn't really intended and now here she is acting as though he was worth caring about. He would never understand these elves.]

Thought you of all would be happy ta see me so low.

[He's speaking only of how he acted when he was cursed with his damn heart. He was a fool and damn if he wasn't the first to admit how foolish he'd been]

Seems to me I've grown plenty without either of those things getting in the way. Sure, there were a few hiccups and maybe a wanted poster or two, but I'd like to think I'm much better now than then.

I can never be happy for the misery of others. [A flaw, some might say. A child born in a time of peace, who hadn't understood when her mother had carried her away from the stranger Annatar and explained that kind did not always mean good.]

Do not mistake me, I do not like you and I cannot see why my uncle cares for you, but I do not revel in your misery.

But you cannot feel the simple joy of a summer day anymore, can you? Or a summer rain? Or genuinely enjoy the jesting of companions for how could you make friends if you do not care? Without a heart, what you do cannot be called living.

I think you hurt my feelings. You know, if I had feelings to hurt. [His jokes are always the best jokes]

Everyone seems to think that I'm not me without that heart. Granted, I probably should have picked someone else to take it out, but I don't regret what I did. Just because it's gone doesn't mean I ain't human, that I ain't me. In fact, I think I'm doing a pretty good job living.

You are not. The heart is a core part of any person. Being able to feel things is a core part of any person, to take that away... you make everything that shaped you completely pointless. You turn your back on everything.

It is the easy solution.

Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best solutions.

[He'll never be sorry that he had his heart removed, simply that he offered said heart to the damn Queen of Hearts.]

No, it is not. The easiest solution is just that, the easy way out of a difficult part in ones life. The way that one avoids picking themselves back up again and learning to live through and rise above the pain.

[He'll never admit that she's very likely right. All he knows was that his pain was too much for him to keep going, to keep waking and hoping and knowing that his hope was useless.]

Well, forgive me if I don't take that sort of lesson to heart. Way I see it feelings leave you too vulnerable, 'specially in a place like this.

[There was a time in her life when the pain was too much for her as well and she'd started dying as a result. But she'd fought her way back to light and life.]

Feelings make you stronger, they give you the strength to do whatever you need to do for those you care about.

Good thing I don't got ta care 'bout no one but myself now.

[He wasn't thinking about Alice and all he's done to help her get Cyrus back, including taking on the genie curse. No, he had simply been paying back what he owed her]

That sounds a lonely life.

[Because even surrounded by others, you could still be lonely. Also, don't think she'll forget those words.]

[He won't admit how lonely it can be. Not himself and certainly not to some uppity elf-lady.]

I've done alright on me own. In fact the only trouble I seem to get in is when others start comin' around askin' for help.

[She wouldn't be so uppity if it weren't for certain reasons. And people.]

Why don't we agree that I'll worry 'bout me and my heart and you just worry about whatever elves worry about?
