[ Time has passed since Alice found herself here, but not by much. It feels like ages, on one hand. She's stressed and irritated, choosing to keep the locket to voice this time. She hasn't sleep well, although that's not news, she never sleeps well. This could be brought on from pieces of her hallucinations.'

Maybe it would have been wiser for this to be excluded to my court, but it doesn't matter does it? Young I may be, but I've come to learn that ideas such as "good" or "evil" are nothing more than concepts sometimes and explanations offered up by those who cannot accept a mind is capable of doing heinous things that they themselves loathe. It is really no secret that so many of us chose to find ourselves in between the courts. And yet, there's something inside of each of us that compels us to fight, apparently, the things I've heard. I'm stating the obvious for some, I know. How can so many of us content ourselves currently that these shards could force us into doing so much more?

[ Alice pauses. She's tense in her voice. ]

Is there really nothing else to convince certain seelie residents here to reconsider their positions before we find ourselves facing one another down in battle? Are we that great of fools that we are not able to rationally talk to one another? I implore some of you to remember that us unseelie court members are in this as much as you are.

[ Just as Alice finishes that sentence, her voice betrays how really worn she sounds. ]

Know this: I will defend those who need defending. I will defend myself if it should come to that. I would rather that is does not come to that, but I fear that there are less reasonable people are the forefront of this... movement.

And I would do the same.

Where I come from, rulers come together to speak and resolve their differences. Long since has anyone met force with force at the risk of others.

Therein lies our problem: Unseelie and Seelie courts have no one voice among them. We do not have leaders.

And perhaps it should stay that way or at the very least, have those who have plenty of experience to talk to the other side before this escalates further. Leadership does not need to fall into one person, it should be co-operative.

Indeed it should. One person's view must be tempered by another's; it's the only way it works. However, we may not have the luxury of the time needed to establish a sensible council.

Why not? Why can't that jewel be relinquished to it's rightful owners?

I don't care if the jewel is taken and buried in the middle of the damned plain so that no one has it. [That's how he deals with children who can't stop fighting over a shiny, after all.] There are very stubborn people in this world. In every world, apparently. If either party cannot sit down and talk about some shiny object that they both covet, they deserve to be at each other's throats. I would rather not be dragged along with them.

But we are going to be dragged into it regardless of how we feel. I doubt that either monarchs would sit calmly and not take offense to having their own or lands attacked over a jewel.

I am afraid that this... petty thing will instigate far more. This is not about Seelie and Unseelie right now but it could very well and very easily become that.

[Pause] And that may be what the monarchs want. We were brought here under pretense of a war.

That is what we should consider, it will become that. At least quell the flames before it becomes a full out battle by returning what is not theirs.

The force is not coming from Caer Glaem. The Seelie cannot, as a whole, hand over what is not ours to take or give. If someone is so hard-headed as to amass an army to attack those who do not have their jewel, then they need to be stopped. I want a peaceful solution, but I am not going to stand aside and let an armed force run over innocent people.

Even if they relinquish it and hand it back over to avert fighting, what then?

[ Hey, Alice can be hopeful. ]

One of them- he does not want to fight, he seems tired and sick of it. When I laid eyes on him, it looks as if he was mourning the choice to take it by force. In truth, I don't know why an oath could be broken and I'm sure it has more value to it than just a simple word, but it is heartbreaking to hear someone speak like that. To see them like that.

Then we're just waiting for the next disagreement to start a war. We need a council, made of both Seelie and Unseelie.

[Wearily:] It is still his choice. We may deem it sad or stupid or ridiculous, but it remains his choice and we must do what we must in the face of it.

It shouldn't come to that. It doesn't have to, he doesn't want to.

[ Alice finds herself a little worked up again as she mentions this. She can't even comprehend that thought-

No, she did, she has. And that's what makes it more upsetting. ]

[He doesn't even know who they're speaking of -- and if he did, he would react much like her because he likes Maglor -- and his voice is filled with a sort of tired sorrow.]

It should not but it remains his choice. We cannot make the choice for him and now we're dealing with the consequences as best we can.

I do not see how anyone could possibly be content with that.

[ She sounds genuinely bitter. Angry. She's angry with this whole thing already and Alice hasn't been here that long. ]

[Sharply:] I am not content with it. I do not want to do this. I do not want to be a part of this but I am here and I cannot stand aside now.

I will not draw first blood.

What it may be worth, I will not fight you.

It is worth more than you may think.

I'm glad.

I offer the same to you: I will not fight you.

And if you must know, if I do go, it is only to seek negotiations and the safety of those I care for. I don't like to use my knife.

I appreciate that. It is the same for me. I am less skilled at negotiation but I will watch over those I care for.

At least you have that advantage in that regard.
