[Sigrid is looking fairly haggard and pale. Behind her is the rugged green wilderness surrounding the Station, though the Station itself is not in sight.]

I'm in the middle of nowhere at all and I've got a bad leg. I couldn't find my locket and I had to ask a thrush to find it for me. A thrush. I'm talking to thrushes and they answer me. Anyway I need help. The thrush said he'd go and find someone, but I don't know who he meant. Does anyone know if thrushes are wise birds or silly birds? If he brings back a bear or something, I've got to hide now.

I should have checked this earlier rather than hunt the castle for you! Have you found sanctuary, Sigrid? Are you safe?

I'm safe at the station.

...I should probably tell you I've got a...erm. Ability? That you might put to use someday. To what use, I don't know.

[ A slow sigh of relief; it takes him a moment to catch up to what else she's saying. ]

Uncertainty seems to be the constant of our stay, here. What do you mean, ability...?

Well...it seems somewhere down the line, my family acquired some manner of spell or something--the Elvenking did not know, or at least he did not say how. In short, I...I understand thrushes. The birds. Just those birds, at least for all I know. And they understand me. Some said the folk of Dale used to use 'em for messengers. Everyone reckoned it meant they carried letters, not...reciting them.

[She's talking a lot because it's awkward and uncomfortable.]

.... So. Just to be certain I have this right. You can speak to thrushes; and they can speak to you. And... any variety of thrush?

[ At least it isn't an, 'I can fly'. But his voice isn't querelous our doubtful; just wanting confirmation that he understood correctly. ]

Do they seem particularly clever, to you? And, you say you came by this information through the Elvenking?

I don't know. This one was one of the song thrushes like there are near the Lake. The Elvenking said my father could do it, too, but I've not heard him mention it. Maybe he doesn't yet know. And he seemed clever enough--the thrush, I mean. He flew straight to the Elvenking to bring him to me, and led him straight here.

[Good. He does not seem to think she is crazy.]
