I'm in the middle of nowhere at all and I've got a bad leg. I couldn't find my locket and I had to ask a thrush to find it for me. A thrush. I'm talking to thrushes and they answer me. Anyway I need help. The thrush said he'd go and find someone, but I don't know who he meant. Does anyone know if thrushes are wise birds or silly birds? If he brings back a bear or something, I've got to hide now.

Then it's a good job we have no yarn. [He makes light of it, though he's certainly worried. She may be hardier than Sansa, but that didn't make her equipped to be out alone fending for herself. Especially with a bad leg.]

Well, at least I'm not listening to it anymore. You could do worse than to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere.

[He grumbles in a not-quite-agreement. All the worse things tend to be located relatively in the vicinity of nowhere.]

What will you do?

Wait for the Elvenking. The thrush is bringing him, and I'm not mad or lying. I spoke to him on the locket and he said as much.

Why should I think you were lying about it? I've only ever spoke to him on the locket.

[Otherwise he assumed the 'thrush' as just a title. After all, the Riverlands had been flooded with 'sparrows' of late and there was plenty of 'crows' at the Wall. Thrushes, whoever they are, must be a helpful sort of people.]

I meant about the bird, not the Elvenking.

A type of bird. They don't come into the town very often. They like to find snails and crack them open on rocks, and we have neither.

I know what a thrush is. I thought you meant-- nevermind. How do you tell a thrush to do anything? It's a bird.

[Nevermind that his journey back had seen a distinct increase in the presence of birds. What he did not know was that the Elvenking had sent them to keep an eye on him, for Sansa's sake. What the Elvenking didn't know was that the birds weren't picky about where their dropping ended up dropping. He'd cleaned his shield more times now than he'd have liked.]

He understood me fine. I think it's more a matter of understanding them than them understanding you.

... and you're certain the Elvenking knows?

[Gendry had told his new horse all kinds of things of late. He doubts it understood any of it.]

The Elvenking's following it back to me. I'm really saying that, aren't I? The Elvenking is following a bird back to where I am.

I hope it's the same thrush.

[Or that the thrush remembers where she's at, anyway.]

I am worried about that. I don't know how intelligent thrushes are supposed to be. I guess they used to be used as messengers in Dale, but I thought that meant carrying messages.

We use ravens for that. Or at least, the maesters do. I've never had need to send messages. [Or indeed the ability to write them.]

...Oh. And they never arrive with carrion and dung on them?

[bullhorned]

... that, I don't know. Ought they to? [He's not exactly a bird expert or anything.]

Well, it's what ravens are known for.

Your ravens, mayhaps. Likely they ain't been put to proper use where you're from.

Maybe not. They're clever, but disease follows them very quick.

That seems a shame if it's true. Are thrushes as clever as ravens?

[kingsdaughter]

I don't really know. Not a lot of them come into Lake-town.

[bullhorned]

You let us know if your elvenking finds you. M'lady will be worried for you.

He's not far now, but I'll tell you first thing when he turns up. Or probably I'll tell...Alayne, since she's the one's going to worry.
