[ It takes little time for Thorin to realize he must learn as much as he can about these lands. If he can't leave, if he can't go back, then at the very least he ought to make sure he finds a safe place for him and the few he keeps close. He has not met many so far he would ask questions, and even the few he did ask could only tell him so much.

Library it is, then. However, this becomes a problem when, after almost an hour of looking through the castle, he can't find the place.

Not only that, but he also ends up getting lost through the corridors.

When he speaks to the locket, he is not actually asking anyone. He is asking the locket itself for directions. ]

Tell me the way to the library.

[ He frowns at the locket for the longest time, waiting for some kind of immediate response, frown deepening when it doesn't come. ]

This useless-- [ And it shuts off. ]

[Don't question the ways of wizards, especially not the one who lives in the forest and whose bffs are trees. It's easier for one's sanity that way at least. Radagast looks distracted for a moment before realizing Thorin is speaking again, looking distressed.]

Ah I see. Perhaps he may not be far behind then, so many Elves and now dwarves, it may not be long.

Do you remember the spiders of Mirkwood? They were like that, only bigger and they could regenerate. It was a horrible pain trying to kill even one. Your nephews had a good fun out of it, unsurprisingly. [He shakes his head.]

Well considering just how vast this land appears to be I don't doubt you'll find a place that meets your simple criteria. [And he had to admit he was interested in exploring parts of this world...]

Oh, I know where that is! Well I mean I know where it is on a map. Getting there isn't too much of a hassle if you truly are interested in going.

Clearly they did not suffer much injury from it, if they had so much fun. [ But really, he would expect nothing else from the brothers, Kíli especially. ]

I am very interested, if Kíli is good for travel. I should like you to come with us as well. [ He looks over. ] We would have to find ponies, however, from what I have heard it is not so short a distance.

[ He's seen enough of wizards to know better than to make sense of them, honestly. If he thought Gandalf was an odd one, well... ]

I would not wait on him, if I were you. Before coming here it had been a while since we last saw of the wizard, even though he said he would meet us later on.

[ He doesn't care much either way. ]

It is not my fault they were sick, and I am not to blame either that I did not guess how to heal them. They attacked my nephew, so I defended him. I killed them. I was not going to stop and wait for them to explain any of this to me.

[Radagast makes Gandalf look very normal indeed. The wizard nods at that, picking up a bug crawling up his beard before letting it crawl under his hat.]

Yes, good, then he will be along. [He says, reassured. Wizards do things on their own time, even among themselves so that answer is satisfying.]

[Kili reaches out to grab the imp that's holding on to Thorin, managing to pull it off of him before the thing bites his hand hard. Letting out a curse that his mother would surely punish him for, he slashes at the imp with his dagger, missing just barely as it flies up higher with a noise that is undoubtedly a wicked cackle.

The other imp manages to bite through Kili's belt and the lacings of his trousers enough to make them fall down around his ankles, and he yelps in surprise and embarrassment as he tugs them back up, only for the thing to perch on top of his head and pull hard at his hair.]

[ Case in point. But Thorin is realizing he might as well just ignore those peculiarities, and focuses about the conversation instead. ]

Perhaps. [ He doesn't sound too convinced, but Radagast does. Thorin wonders if there is some sort of wizard knowledge in all this. ] Will it make any difference if he does show?

[ Were this any other circumstance Thorin might have shown amusement at what happened, but as it is they still have two imps circling them, so while Kíli is busy trying to hold his trousers up, he swings his sword right above his head and slashes the imp in two.

It makes a bit of a mess of Kíli's hair, but it's better than to have the thing attacking him at least. Lastly he turns his attention to the last imp who is all the more vicious now that they have killed all the others, and is coming at him fast rather than running away as it should. With an angered growl, Thorin holds his hand out, lets the imp cling to it and bite him there, and then clasps his fingers around the creature, tighter and tighter until there's a dry snap and the thing dies in the firm hold of his hand. ]

[There's blood and bits of imp in Kili's hair, but it really is better than having the thing pulling and biting at him. Thorin crushes the last one and Kili takes a moment just to be a bit unnerved at how strong his uncle is.

Fixing his trousers so they'll stay up for a bit longer, he lets out a sigh and glances at his arms, spotted with blood from bites and scratches. He hadn't realized how very afraid the things had made him, and once Thorin's wiped the imp guts off his hand, Kili moves to embrace his uncle, breathing in his scent and letting the familiarity and comfort of it calm his racing heart.]

[ Unceremoniously he tosses the broken imp body onto the ground, blood from the bite splattering across the floor, then glances over to Kíli to see if he's alright after that whole mess.

But he doesn't get to see much of anything, and as he finishes wiping his hand on his cloak Kíli's suddenly hugging him. It shocks him for a second or two but then he wraps his own arms around the younger dwarf, one hand still holding onto his sword as the other cradles the back of his head, relief mostly that they're both alright despite their many scratches or bite marks. ]

[The imp attack had been sudden and honestly rather frightening. He hadn't expected the things and suddenly they were on him, biting and scratching and pulling at his hair. True, his foes weren't the most terrible thing he had ever faced, but Kili had never really fought a battle on his own.

And he'd been losing pretty badly.

Until Thorin had come and rescued him. It wasn't the first time and nor did Kili believe it would be the last. He clings to his uncle, focusing on breathing again and calming down. After a long while, he finally lets go, pushing his hair back and swiping at a long scratch down his cheek.]

Thank you.

[ Frankly Thorin's relieved he came this way. Maybe Kíli could have fended for himself were this situation any different, but he still seems to be recovering, and the group of imps had been just about big enough to pose a real threat.

When Kíli pulls away he lets his hand rest on the back of his neck for a while still, a smile gracing his features at the words. So bitter had been their last conversation, he cannot deny it brings him joy to at least see his younger nephew more open and not as abrasive as before. ]

There is nothing to thank me for. [ He moves his hand to cup the injured cheek, his thumb touching lightly the muscle around the scratch. Hardly anything too deep or serious, yet it is an attempt to mend fences that he adds. ] Let's find somewhere to clean your wounds.

[He's glad too to be around Thorin without feeling bitterly angry. He'd talked it over with Fili, and while Kili still felt that he had been the one offended and he had every right to be upset, he's realized that there's more to it than this.

He closes his eyes briefly as Thorin touches the scratch, letting out a quiet hiss. Ordinarily he'd wave Thorin off and clean them up himself, but there's some words to be had between them and he appreciates the offer.]

Aye, alright. [He nods in agreement before pausing.] Uncle, I need to apologize for how I spoke to you before. I was...disrespectful and childish.

[ Thorin looks at Kíli in surprise, though the words are something that pleases him to hear, at least. Perhaps his own back then had not been the best, but it seems that his nephew took some time to think on them regardless. ]

My own words did not come as I wanted them to either. [ In the tone it is clear he accepts the apology, and he offers one of his own, in a way, hidden behind the words. ] You must understand why I did it. I had to leave you behind, it was too dangerous. You would have died, Kíli, and possibly your brother as well, knowing him as I do. I could not bear that.

Yes, now more than ever. [Radagast said insistently, he's the only wizard and it's a big job. He's not supposed to be doing everything, there should be more than one wizard but even if Gandalf wasn't here, Radgast would still do what was required.]

No matter, we shall do without him for a little while longer if need be!

[Kili glances down at the ground, taking a deep breath.]

I understand, Uncle. [He looks back up at him.] But I nearly died all the same. I...I would have, if luck hadn't been on our side. And here too, I almost... [Kili trails off.]

I saw my father, Thorin. I saw the Halls. And I would have joined them if not for the healing of the elves.

[ Thorin on the other hand has to wonder exactly what any of them are to do here, or why. He certainly is not taking part in other people's wars, at least. ]

It looks like we have no other choice at the moment.

[ Thorin stares, frozen in place for a long while after the words. A fear sprouts at the pit of his stomach, turning to a cold shiver that crawls all the way up to the top of his head, yet he says nothing to it, to this experience Kíli says to have gone through.

He does not know how to handle it, what to even say. He lets his breath out in a slow but shaky exhale, lowering his head in a small nod as a hand curls around Kíli's shoulder. ]

You are alright now. This is what matters. [ Not that it pleases him to hear that elves were involved in the healing, but he'll not complain, not when it means that it saved his nephew's life.

With a gentle tug, he urges Kíli to walk down the hallway with him. ] Now come, Kíli. Let us find a room to clean your wounds... perhaps find you a new pair of trousers.

There are many choices we must make here nonetheless, Thorin Oakenshield. There are many creatures of the darkness, foul orcs and the such! [Radagast exclaims as he leans in closer to the screen, speaking quickly. He has no interest in the wars either but he will still protect what he must here- the trees and animals are the side he is on.]

[The blatant unease, even fear in Thorin's eyes makes Kili uncomfortable and he looks away. He's never seen his uncle afraid before and there's something very wrong about it, something that makes Kili uneasy and nervous.

Thorin speaks again, and the look is gone. Kili relaxes, giving him a small smile and following after him with little urging.]

Aye, these ones are ruined now. [He glances down at his trousers before promptly bursting out laughing.]

[ Really, no need to get so eerily close to the locket there. Thorin could see Radagast perfectly before that closeup. But alright then. ]

I hardly think that to need any thought. I'll see those creatures slain the second they cross my path.

[Radagast peers at him for a few more moments long, as if he may not believe him or just is taking in his words. But then he nods, satisfied.]

Then on your guard, they have gotten bold. Where are you presently?

At the court of Caer Glaem. But I do not plan to stay here for much longer.
