HERMIONENET / COMPASSES
To anyone that owns a device that can read this notice:
Please return your device to me for additional protection and charms. This won't come with any charge, but it is something that needs to be done. It will make it so that no one but you can use your device and, should it be stolen, it will turn into a harmless little lump of fool's gold, with a promise of a replacement from me if you need it.
If you can't come to me personally for any reason then, please, let me know. I'll do my best to either visit you or send you information on the runes for you to perform yourself. Thank you.
SEELIE LOCKED
[ The video feed shows a harried, tired looking Hermione sitting behind her desk, head held high as she smiles, leaning forward. ]
As always, if anyone is in need of potions or charmed, protective cloaks for the upcoming battles, let me know. Artefacta will be happy to provide them, and we can enchant items you already own as well. Just let me know through your lockets and I'll arrange it all.

I'll go ahead and do action because I want the practice.
Ah... describe it anyway. I am still trying to remember names so is better if I go by landmarks.
awesome!
Tell me if anything doesn't work. I smell like new!stink.
I will get closer. And then I will figure out how to take pictures with smart phone fairy locket.
[So far he's just been responding. He's still baffled by the thing and thus hasn't made any starting remarks of his own.]
[Also, since it's war time and it's not a war he was there from the beginning of, he can't rightly say things or not.]
[It takes a while, because clegs are new too. Helicopters, planes, motorcycles doing glorious stunt jumps. Those Niko can do. But those are machines with no personality beyond the unique feel of their engines, their wheels sliding across the pavement on sharp corners.]
[But this animal has quite a head on it, and "steering" the beast has a learning curve he has to adjust to. Not to mention, when he reaches that warmer territory he's still dressed in the clothes he's chosen to handle chilly mountain air in. He has to shed his hat and top layer before he can send that message.]
[Okay, well, he has to thump the locket against his hand, shake it by his ear, and try three more times before he can actually send her that message, but that's beside the point.]
Ah, this a good place? [He says as he sends her a video of the surrounding area, ending in horse-lips jammed against the image because his new beast wanted his attention.]
you're good!
[ Hermione goes about doing her work with all the ease and familiarity she's used to, and it's only when her locket makes a noise again that she stops, putting her quill down and shifting to pick up the device. The video is more than good enough for her to be able to close her eyes and imagine it, and she's quick to push herself away from her desk and grab her bag, shoving her wand up her sleeve. ]
That's perfect. Give me thirty seconds, okay?
[ Turning off her locket, she shifts and closes her eyes, breathing out before she twists in place. It doesn't take her anything more than a handful of seconds to appear almost in front of him, lifting a hand to brush her hair from her face. ]
Hi.
Hover translate
[But then Niko recognizes her and her voice, and he has to blink off the reactionary shock as if he had smoke in his eyes.] Јебем ти живот...
[He flips the knife in his hand so the handle faced her.] It is ice. I stab something and the area around it freezes. It's not such a big thing around here, but it's what I got outside of the basic weapons I can make myself.

She really needs to be more careful with her apparition, doesn't she? Lifting a hand, she smiles as she reaches out to take the handle of the knife, tilting her had to listen to him. ]
It's still very impressive. [ Flexing her wrist, she lets her wand drop from her sleeve into her hand before she turns and sits herself down on the ground, cross-legged, lifting the knife so she can start to put runes on the handle. ] Is it from home?

[He pulls his pistol from his belt, but just to show her, before putting it back.]
I do not exactly have a lot of bullets though. I'm a good shot, I will make them count when it is time. But I need to have the right targets. [He gestures at the knife.] Luckily I am pretty good with a knife.
[He has no magic himself- he sort of suspects he never will get the hang of it, but he can try to learn other ways of protecting himself.]
no subject
[ Hermione has no experience with guns, but she has something far more dangerous literally in her hands - how dangerous could a wand be? She could kill someone with a flick of her wrist if she wanted to... She just didn't. ]
The knife should do you some good, and if you go to the armoury at Caer Glaem or the Citadel one of the faeries would be more than happy to give you some more, or some armour and a sword. Whatever you'd prefer, really.
[ She glances up, tilting his blade before she starts to put another rune on the other side - this one for protection. ]

I have a crossbow. I have a little armor. [Chainmail. Something he could move in.] I don't really like to stay in the castle. [And he prefers to have weapons the feel like they're truly his.]
[He's learned debt it a terrible thing to find oneself in. Speaking of which.] How much will I owe you for this? [So far his main source of income has been pulling a sort of Robin Hood- except he's been hoarding whatever he scrounges up until someone asks for some. He'll give it freely. He's just not leaving it lying around for anyone- too many assholes out there.]

[ She keeps working on the knife, turning it here and there and tilting the blade before she nods her head and shifts. Hand on the ground, she pushes herself up and stands, holding it out with her fingers holding loosely onto the top of the hilt, as close to the blade as she can get. ]
The armouries are always there if you need more, especially with how dangerous things are getting lately.
[ She pauses, though, her eyes widening for a moment before she shakes her head. ]
You don't owe me anything at all.
no subject
Thank you.
[He'll go ahead and accept it as a gesture of kindness. Though subconsciously her knows he'll have to find a way to pay her back one day.]
This probably sounds stupid, coming from someone like me. [Someone who has a scar through his eyebrow and flecks of damage from grenades. Someone who has a hardened face that looks older than it's thirty years just because of the strain of war and constant conflict and hard work. Someone like him.] Why is there no way to compromise this? No middle ground?
no subject
You're welcome.
[ Not that she would accept the returned payment, of course, but all the same... The question doesn't surprise her too much and she breathes out, lifting a hand to rub at her eyes. ]
Because it's a war that's been going on for thousands of years, a war that will define the future for every single world. If there was a compromise it would have been found already.

[He sounds disappointed, on one hand believing her and on one hand not. Maybe a combination of the two. Wars can go on that long, hate can last generations. It can blind the young, because all they see is through the eyes of the old. There might be ways to fix it- he's always believed there's a way to fix any conflict. But he also knows there is no initiative to get away from it when it's an old war. Hate is too easy, compromises too much effort. A quick fix solves all, and better for soldiers to understand.]
[The war has turned him int a bit of a cynical asshole.]
[Working for money has always made more sense to him, because he knew how stupid he was to believe what he was told when he was younger. Maybe it is true that everything depends on it.]
I know that I am not a good person to decide the fate of my world. And as far as I know? Neither is anyone here. But I will do what I can to keep it going. [He sheaths the knife. After she went through the trouble of protecting his knife, he needs to assure her that much.] That much I do believe in.

[ She lets her eyes gaze at him for a long, drawn out moment before she shits back and lifts her head. Her expression is soft, trying to wrap her mind around explaining everything she knows before she smiles again, tilting her head up to look at the man once more.
Hermione doesn't want to be cynical, but - it's getting harder and harder. ]
You're new, and I understand that - but... There are lots of things to do here, lots of things that could help. You don't have to fight if you don't want to.
no subject
[More than shoot, anyway.]
no subject
[ She nods. ]
I was known as a Protectress, once. I want people safe.
no subject
I didn't know that there is girl version of protector in English. I know hero and heroine, and I know actor and actress. But that is strange. There is no doctor and doctress.
I don't think.
[Give him a moment, he's thinking really hard about that.]
no subject
[ Her eyes flick up and she smiles at him. ]
I'm Lioness Courant now, though. I'm just the person that wants to protect the people I care about and the people around me.
no subject
[He says as if he doesn't sometimes help out random people. Sometimes. Unfortunately he's hurt too many for it to make up for anything, and he's not successful enough defending those he loves to consider himself any sort of protector.]
[But still, he does think that's the smart way to go.]
Hopefully they will give me a real word for a title one day.
Do you think someone here could make it so my arrows are ah... like they are drugged with something? Or would I have to go searching for things to make that happen. Ingredients.
no subject
[ She knows she's smart, of course, but that doesn't lend itself to being a good protector - she had seen that too. She would like to think it's her heart that makes her a good defender of the people, not simply that.
Still, she tilts her head up, pausing to consider for a moment. ]
I can make a sleeping draught that you could put on the tips. There... Are some plants here that are poisonous, I could show you those, but I don't know how to make the poison.
no subject
[But his morals have always been a little wobbly- his principles are a different story.] Is a good idea, anyway.
But yeah, I would like that. [He hesitates like he was going to say something, but does realize that Hermoine looks like a polite girl, like the old vacationer type back in the rural Balkans, the ones that came in from England. He should probably not crack jokes like, "Better than accidentally wiping your ass with it!". His smile is brief and unsteady after that comment.] Ah.... yeah. Especially since I've been living way out there. Good chances to collect.

I'll bring you some as soon as I can, or have someone deliver them. If a man with blond hair starts flirting with you, that'll be Galan - just ignore him. [ She shakes her head, pursing her lips before she turns her gaze down to the area around her. Reaching into her bag - elbow deep, thank you magic - she pulls out some parchment and a quill and shifts, using her leg as a desk to write on. ]
I'll draw and label the plants for you. Most of them are familiar from other worlds, but some are Drabwurld things that I've experimented with. [ She sketches the flowers and writes their names and effects that she's aware of before she breathes on it to dry the ink. Standing, Hermione offers the parchment to him. ] Here.
