Apparently I've been sleeping for a long time.

[ Not that he really remembers falling asleep... but if waking up in an unfamiliar bed with a familiar friend sleeping half-sprawled out on top of him is any indication, he's certainly been asleep. And based on the date, it's been for a while.

Luckily, as unnerving as an extended sleep is, there doesn't appear to be any Xehanort here to take advantage of that. A sleep was all it was. ]

I'm still trying to catch up on everything I missed while I was asleep. I know more people arrived to the court, but what's going on with all these war preparations? Did something happen?

You don't have to tell me that. [ Especially not with everything that had just happened during the Mark of Mastery exam. ] It wasn't exactly by choice.

[ That voice... it sounds familiar. ]

Magic then. [ better to double-check than to straight up assume magic was at play. but he's rather glad to hear it be the case, even if it's something to be wary of.

[ Cloud's other statement is a little tougher to respond to. ]

Not really. I knew of you. But I don't think we've ever actually met.

I take it you've met other people here that know you too?

[ He hopes that he and Zack have met up, at least. ]

[ cloud isn't exactly sure what to make of that, and whether it means this kid is from the same world as him, or yet another one. that at least makes answering the second part easier. ]

Yes, a kid named Sora, for one. [ and zack, indeed, but that was... complicated. ]

[ He can probably hear a quiet snort of amusement from the other side. ]

Sora's already run into you? That's not surprising.

[ If there's one thing Sora's good at, it's making--and then finding--friends. ]

I'm Riku. Sora and I grew up together.

Yes, at the feast. He was... bubbly. [ though also worried, something they'd both shared during the feast. ] And eager to find any friends. Which I guess he did.

[ and not in the unseelie court either, it seems. ]

That mean you're from-- [ what was it? ] --Destiny Islands as well?

[ "Bubbly" is one word for it. ]

Yeah, that's right.

Where are you from?

[ Depending on what Cloud answers, he'll know if this was the one he'd known of through Sora, or the one Zack had been so worried about. Assuming, of course, that they aren't somehow one and the same. ]

[ cloud is glad sora has been reunited with at least one friend. he'd worried the kid might try to find them through some less that smart ways. ]

Gaia. [ also knows as the planet, simply. ] It's very different from this place.

[ So the Cloud that Zack knew. All right. That gets one big question out of the way. ]

I bet. My world was a lot different, too.

...when I got here, I met a guy named Zack who was pretty worried about you. Have you found him yet?

[ hrm. ]

I... [ cloud falters for a second. ] Yes, I spoke to him. I think he's alright now. [ it's a touchy subject, to say the least. ]

Have you been here long?

Good to hear. I'm glad the two of you found each other.

[ Even if it was difficult.

Cloud can probably hear the smile in Riku's voice--he means it! Zack had almost bitten his head off looking for information on him. (He should check back in with Zack, really...) ]

I haven't been here that long, just a couple months. I think I got here at the same time as he did.

[ if only cloud knew, he'd go smack zack for that... though he has a feeling both he and riku would do the same with people they care about. ]

... Have things been quiet-- with the war, I mean. [ some days seem fairly so to him at least, but then cloud knows war doesn't always loom aggressively at one's doorstep. ]

[ In a heartbeat. It's why Riku doesn't really begrudge Zack for his actions at all--he would've done the exact same thing if someone had known something about Sora.

At Cloud's question, though, Riku frowns. ]

There hasn't been a lot of fighting since I got here, but that's just a matter of time. Last month the Black Shuck forced a truce for a little while, but just before I arrived there was a large battle that the Unseelie monarchs started.

[ He doesn't know much about the Dullahan aside from what Merida's told him, so he's careful not to lay the blame on the Unseelie shardbearers themselves. From what she said, it sounded like they were saving their own necks by driving the Dullahan to Seelie lands. ]

And with Solais calling us all to the Cathraon, I bet we'll be fighting within a couple weeks.

[ it's an interesting bit of information. the black shuck cloud's only heard of in passing, though it is suggested here too that he must have considerable influence to be able to force a truce. too bad it was broken. ]

You're most likely right. [ they know something, have to if they're calling their respective shardbearers to prepare. cloud isn't afraid of battle, but having not seen what's possible in this place, how bad the war truly is, he's... apprehensive. ]

Clashing with the Unseelie doesn't feel right. [ but then, it is likely they won't be the enemy either. ]

[ Unseen, Riku shakes his head. ]

I know what you mean. All the Unseelie I've met seem like good people. They just see things differently.

Has anyone told you about the Void yet? What our two sides are fighting over?

[ It's a question he feels a little bit silly asking, but, well. He's been asleep. He doesn't know what Cloud knows or doesn't know. ]

[ cloud can't say he's met too many unseelie, but from what he'd understood choosing which side you ended up here wasn't so simple-- so anyone, good or bad, could be on either side.

Yeah, I learned about it during my shard activation. From someone named Kirei Kotomine. [ kirei had seemed to know his info, even if cloud was still uncertain how he felt about the two warring sides and their goals. ]

Can't say it made sticking up for either side any easier.

Kirei...? I don't think I know him.

[ Not that it's really important right now. ]

Yeah. Just because one side thinks they've got the right answer doesn't mean the other side's wrong.

[ The Unseelies' convictions aren't wrong, they're just different. And it doesn't feel right fighting a war over that. ]

Too bad both sides are stubborn. [ and then some. cloud's crossing his arms over his chest, pausing for a long moment before speaking up again. ]

...But even so, I'm glad Sora found you. With people like him and you-- maybe we can change how things happen here. Slowly. [ he can only even suggest such a possibility because he's seen it happen before, in another world. ]
