voice; unseelie.
Each day that goes by that we're waiting for something to happen is each day the Void gets closer to all of us. We lost all last month to fight against it due to the Black Shuck's orders, and now we're left scrambling to make up that lost time. Isn't that a bit too convenient for those who would have us die against our will, to squander the little time we've left?
I can't shake the feeling there's something more that's happening than we're being told, and more we ought to be doing than simply preparing. The least we could do for now is try to figure out what that is. If you've no experience with self-defense, then I can help with that; and if you have that, or at least some experience in finding your way through the woods without getting lost and setting off warning signs wherever you walk, then I suppose I'm your lieutenant, if you wish to scout our borders.
Either way we know something is stirring, and we'd better be prepared for it.

We had guards, watch duties back home, and minute scouting to nearby areas. It's all about finding the right people and putting them in places that suit them best, which is a lot harder when you're dealing with strangers volunteering. But use this case as a springboard for next time. [He just assumes there's always going to be a next time.] If people familiarize themselves with different areas, you can refer to them to keep track. Until you know they're trustworthy, make sure it's multiple people scouting the same areas. Differing reports'll give you that answer.
[He's sure most of it's unwarranted, but it all tumbles out of his mouth anyway, because this - this on the ground level of organization, it comes naturally to him, and it's easy to just offer it up when Katsa hesitates with it.]
voice
[ she confirms it, but there's a subtle note of relief in her voice that she's doing it right so far. she's been trying to remember how oll assigned duties among his men, but she hadn't really paid much attention to what he was doing before.
and then, in what might even be a joke: ]
So I ought to send someone along with you?
voice
[He takes it in stride, even sounds amused.] Fair warning, if they're too loud, I'm just gonna ditch them.
voice
[ she's seen him in action. she knows what his skills are, and he's not lacking. ]
voice
The fact that I'm still alive right now.
voice
[ sometimes it's just really hard to tell with katsa's sense of humor. ]
Fine. Keep doing whatever it is that's worked for you, and perhaps I'll check in to see that you've not been killed yet.
voice
[He snorts though, clearly not put off at all by how abrasive she is. The way to respond is obviously with teasing.] Pretty sure I'm the one that's supposed to check back in with you.
voice
Then make sure there are no surprises for either of us, soldier. I'll talk to you soon.
voice
Good luck yourself, Lieutenant.
