Each day that goes by that we're waiting for something to happen is each day the Void gets closer to all of us. We lost all last month to fight against it due to the Black Shuck's orders, and now we're left scrambling to make up that lost time. Isn't that a bit too convenient for those who would have us die against our will, to squander the little time we've left?

I can't shake the feeling there's something more that's happening than we're being told, and more we ought to be doing than simply preparing. The least we could do for now is try to figure out what that is. If you've no experience with self-defense, then I can help with that; and if you have that, or at least some experience in finding your way through the woods without getting lost and setting off warning signs wherever you walk, then I suppose I'm your lieutenant, if you wish to scout our borders.

Either way we know something is stirring, and we'd better be prepared for it.

I'm not a soldier. [ The retort is quick, irritated—and, perhaps in her situation now, wrong. Katsa merely sees herself as taking on a position of leadership and responsibility that needs to be done, and accepted because of the person who asked it of her. ] And it isn't Saber or another shardbearer I mistrust.

[andallbite]

[ —Huh?

Her snappish response is somewhat baffling, truth be told. Who calls themselves of such a rank but refuses to be called a soldier? Eren frowns, just a touch. ]

Then what is it?

Do you trust our Lord King and Lady Queen completely?

[andallbite]

[ And to that he answers, easily: ]

Yeah. I trust them.

[ Just as easily: ]

That's foolish.

[ Katsa likes Morla: that doesn't mean that she trusts her. And Reul is a whole other ball game. ]

[andallbite]

—What? Why would it be?

[survivra]

Do you usually trust people with so much power always to do what is best for others and not for themselves, without question?

[andallbite]

[ He lets out a little huff, a subtle hint of exasperation. ]

I don't believe they have a perfect system—that'd be stupid to say. [ Here, or probably anywhere. It sure wasn't, back home. Yet that never stopped him from becoming a soldier, for fighting what he believes in, from trusting his superiors. ] But I believe in them enough to do what we have to here.

[survivra]

But we don't even know whether we know what we have to do. [ she sounds just as frustrated. ] What's the point of keeping us in the dark if they wish us to fight?

[andallbite]

Do you think keeping us in the dark is their intention? Because I don't. That just makes it sound like they're trying to screw all of us over. Right now all we can do is ready ourselves the best we can against our enemy.

[survivra]

People in their position don't share all their knowledge or power with others. The more they give away, the less is there for them.

We can ready ourselves, and that's what I'm doing. But I don't trust that's all there is to this, either, or that their lovely majesties don't know more about what's happening. Someone knows. Someone who ought to tell.

[andallbite]

Whatever you're hoping to hear, you're not going to get it.

[ Not right now, and maybe not anytime soon. Eren doesn't know the reasons why they're not revealing everything, but he's clearly not as irritated about that particular point as she is. ]

Saving our asses is more important than worrying about that.
