Greetings. For any recent arrivals who I haven't introduced myself yet, I am Baron Balem Abrasax. In the wake of recent events, I have decided to open the doors of the Military Academy to any Unseelie who wish to use its resources.

[Yes, for free, no tuition or anything, bargain!]

All I ask is that you aid or teach the native students as you would fellow shardbearers, if you can.

[He pauses for a moment.]

...And one more question. I've been alive for many thousands of years, but my eternal youth was made possibly only by technologies which don't exist here. I will wither and die in this world, if I am here too long. Yet, I have encountered many of you who don't age, without any technology at all, presumably through magical means.

How would one achieve such a feat? I've heard of the Philosopher's Stone, the Elixir of Life, and the Great Panacea, if you know anything about any of those and where to find them. Otherwise, any other leads are appreciated and I will look into researching them on my own when I have less immediate matters to attend to.

[He falters for a moment. There is fear in his voice, as much as he tries to disguise it. Fear of death looming over his shoulder, fear of every ache and pain and wrinkle and any other sign of aging he checks meticulously for every single day.]

Please, I will reward you generously for this information. [He clears his throat.] But yes, come and train at the Academy if you wish, and any other aid that can be given to my Spire will be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you.

I don't know what death would be like. I don't suppose anyone does until it's too late.

I think the living fear death more than the dead ever could, though.

The dead may not feel fear at all. They may also not feel love, or joy, or friendship, or any of that, ever again.

[He doesn't really care about love or friendship, but he had to tailor his argument to his audience.]

I've always thought it'd be like rest. Isn't that what they call it? An eternal rest.

( though that might be another attempt to soothe the living, left behind. )

Dying is a part of living. That cycle shouldn't be disrupted. If everyone were to fight the inevitable, the damage would be catastrophic.

Eternal rest sounds...terribly dull.

[He sighs.]

We Unseelie are here fighting to disrupt the natural cycle of worlds, why not the natural cycle of life, too?

I've been taken by the Unseelie, but I have yet to choose to dedicate myself to their cause.

( she's more troubled by the void itself, but honestly she needs more time to get an opinion on the war. )

I think there are much more valuable uses of our time, but it seems clear to me that you have no interest in changing your opinion.

There isn't much time left to think it over.

And no, I've made up my mind in regards to that issue. I decided what I wanted long, long ago and nothing has changed it, so far.

Because of the void? ( she hasn't been long but she's heard more than enough. every day the world grows smaller, and that's the basis of the war, as she understands it. )

I hope one day you find something in this life worth living and dying for. I suspect thus far you haven't had the opportunity.

Yes. It's closing in. And I've found plenty worth living for, but nothing is worth dying for.

I suppose that depends on what comes after death. Whether it was worth it or not, I mean.
