So, guys. You remember when we lost all the fire magic in the world to the Void because of reasons?

Well, we've got some hope here. Well, a small, puppy-like, really adorable hope, and his name is Kaio. He's a new god forged from some god of the forge and a shardbearer, and I'm sure some of you have seen him around, because I sure have.

But more importantly, he's going to need shrines, and offerings. I know a lot of you lost those powers and want them back, or even if you just want to get the ability to learn those powers. He's our chance to bring back fire magic into this world again.

I've currently got one in my castle, and I'll be setting up a large shrine to him at Spire Four itself, but he'll need more. So if you guys can set up something of your own, burn offerings in his name, spread the word, you know the drill.

And hey, if he comes by, remember to give him plenty of tummy rubs and ear scratches, he really loves those.

[ Johnny looks quite taken with that idea, obviously amused at the idea of Kaio gnawing on a fireproof bone. ] Well, yeah, imagine if you could get him to come by and play with it. That'll be cool.

[ He gestures to the construction site -- there's been progress since the last time Hiro was there, so there isn't quite anything yet, but he's negotiated for a shrine to be built in Kaio's honor, carving out a large space for the god. ]

Ground floor, right wing -- it faces the setting sun, and I'm planning for the torches in it to be constantly lit in his honor. Offerings, probably three times a day. Jack's helping to take care of that.

Why not? I built Shijima cat toys when she was still here. [Is anybody surprised by that? No? Okay, carry on.] We could build all sorts of things, I bet I could even figure out a few squeaky toys for him. Maybe even ropes that won't light on fire so he can play tug-of-war with them or something. [Dogs like that, right?] Shuck likes meat still, maybe Kaio would be fine with a few animal bones.

[He looks past Johnny into the video feed to see the construction, carefully analyzing it.]

Sounds like the perfect spot for him. [There's a slight grin. He doesn't know Jack very well ~~because timelines~~ but sure. That's fine. What's important is that there's help going on here.] How'd you even find out about him anyway?

Who's Shijima?

[ Or what's Shijima? Hiro's ideas flow like water, sparking and bouncing around inside of his head and it's always a wonder to watch him flit from one potential invention to another. Seriously, being in his head must be tremendously exciting. ]

He came to me. [ Johnny grins. ] Wagging and running around. Pretty easy to cuddle, too. [ His grin fades. ] He was scared, though.

She was a friend. [Was.] She disappeared a few months ago, but she could shapeshift into a cat. [More like she was a cat who could be a human, but he doesn't feel the need to clarify.] I got a lot of practice. Maybe a ball that throws itself for him to chase? My wind magic's getting better.

[He frowns though at that.] Wouldn't you be scared if you were him, too? Who knows what's going on on the other side...it's gotta suck, being hunted down to try and be swayed to somebody's side. Maybe we can help him be less scared.

Sooooo... not your girlfriend? [ Because big brothers always need to know. ] I bet you could raise hell with your wind magic. Play fetch without even needing to run.

[ He likes Hiro's ideas, but his smile fades at that next question, the thoughtfulness of a boy who very evidently empathises with very small animals. ]

Yeah, I was thinking of that. D'you think making him stronger would help him be less scared? [ Because that's maybe the best he can come up with. ]

Not even close. [He's not even ruffled by the question, aren't you proud, Johnny?] I've been practicing for almost a year now since Lemina taught me. I think I'm getting really good at it.

[They seem to share those sentiments, and he nods.] I think so...give him a way to protect himself from whatever happens.

...hang on.

[Give him a moment before he connects the video to a private feed.]

I'm almost positive I know who helped create him...and the thing is? He's not exactly a bad guy, but I don't know what lengths he's gonna go to to get Kaio back onto the Seelie side. We should probably be prepared for that kind of thing, especially with what he's done and what he's doing in the Drabwurld.

[ You're growing up, kiddo. Johnny has to marvel at that, because it wasn't that long ago that he'd been greeted with a snowball to the face by that kid. Johnny's silent for a few moments, thinking hard. Hiro's right -- they need to get the puppy god on their side; the Unseelie can damn well work together for this, right? ]

We've got to make sure that that doesn't happen. I'm going to look into the shrines that are going to come up, and follow up on what's going on right now. If we lose Kaio to them, I'm not sure what's going to happen, especially with the Godswar coming up.

[ He pauses. ] You've got your ear to the ground, Hiro. Do you have any word on what's going on with that so far? It's a bad sign when even gods are afraid.

[He doesn't even quite realize himself how much he's growing up. It's not something he puts a lot of thought into during these types of situations. People need him and Johnny is one of those people right now. Kaio seems to be one of those people, too.]

All I can say is we've gotta build big ones and a lot of 'em and make sure people actually leave offerings. What's the point of having a shrine if nobody's actually honoring or praying to him? [He huffs though, thinking about the Godswar. He almost hates to disappoint Johnny with the answer.]

I don't have enough of a word. Not yet. I've got people I can check with but your guess right now is as good as mine. [It's mostly true. He knows a few small things and has hunches, but nothing solid.] But totally a bad sign. We know there's a lot out there that's looking to destroy us though, dude. We don't even know how much time is left. But I'm looking into it. I'll let you know anything I find out.
