So, guys. You remember when we lost all the fire magic in the world to the Void because of reasons?

Well, we've got some hope here. Well, a small, puppy-like, really adorable hope, and his name is Kaio. He's a new god forged from some god of the forge and a shardbearer, and I'm sure some of you have seen him around, because I sure have.

But more importantly, he's going to need shrines, and offerings. I know a lot of you lost those powers and want them back, or even if you just want to get the ability to learn those powers. He's our chance to bring back fire magic into this world again.

I've currently got one in my castle, and I'll be setting up a large shrine to him at Spire Four itself, but he'll need more. So if you guys can set up something of your own, burn offerings in his name, spread the word, you know the drill.

And hey, if he comes by, remember to give him plenty of tummy rubs and ear scratches, he really loves those.

Puppy shrine. I was just sending up offerings to him.

[ He rubs at his face; it's been bothering him for awhile -- the Void can't be ignored any longer, it threatens them all with every day that it exists. ]

Come over?

[Jack nods, shutting his locket and heading to where Johnny is. He stands back, waiting for Johnny to finish before he approaches.]

You look troubled.

[It never looks right on him.]

[ Jack's a comforting presence, and he looks away from the offerings that he's burned up in Kaio' name before he stands and heads towards him. ]

What do you know about the Godswar?

Besides the part where I hear the word 'god' and my stomach turns?

[Jack shakes his head, sighing.]

I've heard some have seen visions, are upset by it. Not much more.

Kaio came to me. He was small, and afraid. There's a war coming, and I'm thinking it's going to decide the fate of this world. I don't know -- maybe.

Or maybe it's just going to end it. I'm not sure which side's going to save it and which isn't. [ Shit's getting real, Jack. ]

Haven't we already been fighting in that war?

[Shit's already been real. Jack takes a deep breath.]

Wouldn't it be nice if it was that clean? That simple? A side of heroes and a side of villains. How like a fairy tale.

[In the world with actual fairies.]

But maybe this is the one that could end it all. I don't know.

[ He hasn't been here too long, and he doesn't know if gods warred like that all the time. But what he knows is this, Jack is here, and he isn't prepared to lose him. Or have him be hurt. ]

Be careful when you're out there. [ He reaches out to him and takes his hand, tugging him over, but he's frowning. ] But it's not so easy, is it? There are good people in the Seelie, too.

And despicable people in the Unseelie.

[Jack doesn't doubt it, either of it. He knows that friends can be enemies and enemies can be just like you.]

Do you know when this war will start?

No, I don't. But all I know is that I've got to get the Spire up and running as soon as possible.

[ He looks out the castle at the grounds, where construction is still going full-swing. ] I've got more men coming in to help out, but I don't know if it's enough. Jack, I can't let this Spire fall.

You won't.

[he can see that johnny's worried though, near panic. jack steps closer and cups his face.]

Forget about the castle for now. Refocus the men's efforts, dedicate every last one of them to the defenses. They can work inward from there.

[ Johnny nuzzles into his hands, seeking comfort and searching Jack out the way he would only allow himself to when they're alone together. He's worried, of course he is -- all this could crumble if the Seelie came to attack. Johnny would raze them to the ground before they set foot into his territory, but at what cost?

He presses his lips to Jack's palm, frowning as he swallows hard. It's hard for him to say, prideful as he is, but it's been weighing on him for a long, long time. ] I need you. I can't do this alone.

[Only Johnny has found the power to soften him this way. It shows in Jack's face too, the hard lines of his expression turning softer, making his whole face look younger, kinder. Not just kind, but loving.

Johnny is strong in his own right, in ways that Jack isn't. But the opposite is also true - Jack has his own strengths, and he would give every last one of them to this man until there was nothing left of him.]

You have me. I won't leave you alone in this world. [And the seeds are sown, a promise that Jack will find a way to keep. Somehow.] You're my sun, Johnny. I won't go back to living in the dark.

[ There's something strikingly, stunningly beautiful about Jack Benjamin when he softens, when he looks kinder, gentle; he knows this is what Jack saves only for him, when they're right there in their most private moments and no one's watching, when pride doesn't put them at odds with each other because there are times when they've gone beyond that.

They've grown together, from the constant fighting to something more, when they make each other complete with their own strengths and weaknesses, when they give each other what the other needs. Johnny would tear down kingdoms for Jack's sake, take on demons and monsters of every ilk if it'll keep his lover safe. But this promise Jack makes him is new, and he blinks, quietly surprised.

He's never said this before, never laid down this promise, his word that he would never leave him alone, but Johnny seeks only comfort in that, in him. He presses his forehead to his, fingers rubbing over the armor that Jack's promised to wear in his shirts. One day, Jack can come home with him to New York, Manhattan, to see his family, to one day belong where people could love him, no matter how dysfunctional they are. Sue would like him, Johnny thinks. So would Ben. ]

I'd never let you. [ His knuckles brush over Jack's cheek, and Johnny's eyes are unspeakably tender. Jack is the only one he sees right now, the only one he orbits around. ] You'll never have to live in the dark while I'm around. You know I'm always gonna light you up, right? Like an awesome Christmas tree.

...A Christmas tree?

[Jack is giving him his patented "Really, Johnny?" look. But his lips want to smile anyway. He sighs, a sound that was once exasperated around Johnny Storm, but is now more fond than anything.]

You're terrible with words. If you ever have to give a speech, I'm looking it over first.

Mmm.

[ Guess who's stealing another soft, sweet little kiss from your smiling lips, Jack? Johnny's in love, claimed by him, and they both know it. ]

I have an idea, why don't you give the speeches for me? I feel like I'd end up going all Braveheart on it. 'Ye cannae take away ouer freedom!'

[Jack kisses him tenderly in return, but he does draw his head back, placing a hand over Johnny's mouth. He smirks at him, because those blue eyes still sparkle brightly.]

You're the baron, you give the speeches.

[It's more than keeping Johnny on top of his responsibilities. Jack giving his speeches for him might be seen as trying to undermine Johnny. Jack wants him to shine.

That's also why he will look them over first.]

[ But what if Johnny adds in some lines from Die Hard and Independence Day? Those movies were cool. He kisses the hand that's placed over his mouth, too, smitten with Jack, before he pulls it away and tugs Jack against him, an arm coming to wrap around his waist. ]

You've changed, you know. You're different from the man I first met.

Good.

[It comes out before Jack can think about it, but he doesn't regret it, wouldn't call it back after he does.]

That man was broken. This one, less so.

[And Johnny is to credit for much of it.

But absolutely no Die Hard.]

I like both.

[ The first one was hard to swallow, but Johnny is fond of Jack either way, drawn hopelessly to him in ways that might not be healthy -- but that's the way they work; making something good out of wretched things.

And Jack, well; Jack's to be credited for it, too. No one can change if they didn't want to. He takes his hand, leads him to their room. ] C'mon, let's go snuggle. I've got a few hours before I have to get back to work again.
