I'm sure by now we're all aware of th' Shuck's decree.
[Sup, Drabwurld? It's your resident princess coming to you live from the back of a flying bison. When Korra had asked her if she wanted to go to Quendi to see the Shuck, she'd jumped at the chance, and now her friend was holding her compass and her locket for her so she could talk while they flew there.
As excited as Merida is that the ban on interacting with Unseelie has been temporarily lifted, it doesn't mean that she'll get to see everyone that she's missed, or that they'll be happy to see her. Instead, she focuses on what she wants to talk about.]
To those seekin' Him, I suggest takin' an offerin'. When talkin' to gods, you should always be respectful, while keepin' in mind that He can an' will kill should He feel it necessary. He is the god of death in this world, an' you'll do well to humble yourself before Him.
[With that out of the way, she clears her throat.]
Banshee are beings of lore in my world an' time. They're women who met with terrible fates an' wail when someone is to perish. Bean nighe we call them, for they wash th' blood from the grave clothes of those who are about to die. I've heard tales that they are spirits who died givin' birth, but that might not always be th' case. Sometimes they lose things, such as hair combs. Perhaps these might help them regain their voices.
[For banshees to lose their voice makes her worry. Is it to do with the vision that Ben had? With the sightings of the White Hart scampering through the cities a month ago with death on His heels?]
Help them. Aid them as He's asked, in any way you can. This is a balance that shouldn't be broken.

[She watches him look it over, remembering her own curiosity when Korra had handed it to her.]
But th' monarchs can't monitor them. Korra gave me this when things started gettin' stricter.
no subject
[ Stricter? He can guess what she means--she must have still been in the Unseelie court when she received it.
He reaches out to pass the compass back to her. ]
Something like this must be pretty useful. [ For multiple reasons. ] I know I wouldn't want the monarchs keeping an eye on everything I said. Especially if I had friends in the other court.
[ He half-glances back at Xion. Sure, they're allowed to openly work together now, but what about once all this is said and done...? ]
no subject
I used to be, ah, quite vocal about how I felt about th' war, an' when I switched I still wanted to keep in contact with some of my friends in th' other court. [Merida purses her lips together, following his gaze back to Xion before returning it to him. She can understand what he's thinking, smiling softly.] Is she from your world?
no subject
Yeah. I don't think I knew her before I came here, but she's got a Keyblade. Those don't come to just anyone.
[ He wants to know why she's got a Keyblade. ]
Maybe I can find out a little more about her on this journey.
no subject
[She knew he told her that much about them, but beyond that, she was still curious. Merida was always interested to learn about odd weapons, and the keyblade was by far the oddest she'd seen. At the very least, Gae Dearg and Gae Bolg were ones she knew of. Her smile quirked a little.]
I have to admit, I'm a little jealous. [Merida looks down at her lap, twining her fingers together.] Both you an' Korra have someone from home with you here. Whether you know her or not, you're connected to her.
no subject
[ Aside from Roxas, of course, but that was kind of a special case. Riku considers himself lucky to be considered worthy enough.
When Merida makes a comment about him and Xion being connected, he shoots her a wry half-smile. ]
I guess that makes me lucky. So far, there are four of us here from my world.
But even so, we're all connected now. [ He gestures to all of them on the bison. ] Our hearts grow with every new person we meet. We carry those friends with us in our hearts, whether they're from our own world or somewhere else.
So even if there's nobody else from your world here, you aren't alone. You're connected to all the people you've met here--and you've become a part of their hearts, too.
no subject
Thank you, Riku.
[She places a hand over her heart, lips curling.]
You're right. Even those who have left are still here with me. Jack, Hiccup, Jon, Grainne...they're all here.
no subject
As long as we think of them from time to time, they're never really gone.
[ Maybe it won't solve all her troubles. Riku hasn't really felt homesick since he left the islands, not really. But he can at least try to sympathize, and he hopes that maybe she'll be able to find some solace soon.
He lets the silence between the two of them lie for a couple minutes, a soft smile on his face. Even though he's still stumbling sometimes, he's come a long way from the jealous boy he'd been when he and Sora had faced off in Hollow Bastion. Then he'd thought Sora was crazy, talking about his friends and how they strengthened his heart. Now, he knows better.
After a few moments, he glances over at Merida again. ]
You wanted to learn another branch of magic, didn't you? We might as well get started while we've got the chance.
no subject
She looks at him when he mentions magic, blinking a bit before smiling and nodding. He was right, there was no time like now to start and who knew how long they'd be traveling on Appa?]
Sure! No time like th' present. What kind of magic do you know?
no subject
A little bit of everything, really.
[ It feels a little uncomfortably like bragging to say. ]
One of the main elements might be easiest to start with--Blizzard, Thunder, or Cure. I'd offer Fire too, but...
[ He trails off, the corner of his mouth quirking up in a half-smirk. That one's pretty obviously out of the question. ]
no subject
Fire was th' first one I learned. I miss it. Korra was even teachin' me how to firebend before we lost Mount Verla.
[Merida links her fingers together, nose scrunching as she tried to concentrate but to no avail. Even though fire had been reborn in the form of Kaio, she had yet to encounter Him. She made a mental note to set up a shrine in the smaller courtyard of her Leathann home when she got back.]
I used to have a friend who could use ice. I'd like to learn that, in his honor.
no subject
I miss it too. But hopefully as Kaio grows stronger, we'll get it back.
[ As Merida makes her decision, Riku nods. ]
All right. First of all, how did you cast fire spells? What did you do when you wanted to summon it?
no subject
I was told to think about it as like...drawing fire from a fireplace. I suppose whenever I wanted to use it I pictured it like that, like reachin' in an' pluckin' it...
[Tempted to try, Merida's fingers twitched in concentration as her brow furrows. But, like always, there's nothing, and she lets out a small grumble.]
Damnit.

Magic in my world was a little bit different. First, you need a focus, something to channel your magic into. Most do it through a weapon or a staff.
[ Not everybody, of course, but it's what he's most comfortable with, and what he's seen most. Riku lifts his Keyblade, still in its sheath, as an example. ]
Your magic comes from inside of you. In order to use it, you need to tap into your memories.
[ He frowns slightly, trying to figure out how to explain it better. It's tough, to put an experience into words. ]
If I want to cast an ice spell, I remember what it felt like on top of the mountain, how the wind carries snow on it and cuts right through you. Or jumping into the ocean in the middle of winter, when the water's so cold it turns your lips blue, or holding ice in your hands until your fingers go numb.
It's kind of like using your shard. You use those memories and picture it becoming real, and use the magic inside of you to make it happen.
[ Riku unsheathes the Keyblade carefully, holding it so that it points out and away into the air. He only wants a small Blizzard spell, just enough to give Merida an example as to what he means. ]
Freeze.
[ A small burst of ice magic fires off into the night, a sizable chunk of bright ice that glows with a deeper blue surrounding it. Riku watches it until it's out of sight, making sure it doesn't affect their flight or anything else, then sheathes his blade again before looking back to Merida. ]
You don't have to say the spell, but it helps focus your magic where you want it to go.

[Like Jack's staff or Hermione's wand that she's seen her use some. She listens to him, watching him pull his keyblade up and drapes her arms over her knees, curiosity on her face. So it sounded like what Rin had taught her didn't apply to all worlds, she thought to herself as she watched him fire off the spell, watching it disappear into the dark.
With a thoughtful look on her face she picks up the sword that Diarmuid had given her for her birthday last year, pulling it out of the scabbard a little. The metal itself is tinged blue, the moonstone crystals in the hilt and pommel giving off a blue look.]
It gets cold in th' Highlands easily durin' winters. They're long an' harsh, an' th' castle was drafty. [She remembers how cold Jack's skin had been to touch, when she got close to him on occasion. Remembers warming the fortress up with fire runes during the Roc's freak winter at the beginning spring last year, searching for people who were freezing and having almost froze herself.] Dad took me on a huntin' trip once in th' winter an' I fell into a lake chasin' down a rabbit.
[Merida pulls her sword fully out of its scabbard, pointing it ahead. Picture it becoming real, huh?]
Freeze.
[There's a glow at the tip of her sword and she watches with a bit of surprise and happiness as the spell shoots off, grateful that she's sitting down in Appa's saddle if not for the recoil. Her sword drops to her side when that happens and she laughs.]
no subject
That's it! You've got it.
It might take a little bit at first, but as you practice it more it'll get easier to find the magic inside of you. And your magic will get stronger, too.
no subject
Sort of like how my runes have gotten stronger. I've noticed that I'm able to use them better now compared to when I first learned them.
[Though her tracking rune still had a tendency to go crazy before it shot off. Lancer's earrings had helped her when it came to learning how to use them and channel them and Merida looked down at her hand, wondering if some day she'd be able to use Blizzard straight from her palm like her fire magic. She looked up at him again, nodding.]
Thank you, Riku.

Glad I could help. If you want to learn any other types of magic too, just let me know.
