Well, now that that silver nonsense seems to be sorted out, I think we need to start talking about things we can actually fight back when they attack us.

[ About as direct a greeting into the topic of this message as you can get. Katsa sits somewhere outdoors, cross-legged in the grass with her locket angled to show the sky clear behind her: fitting for the mismatched colors of her eyes, unusually bright green and blue. ]

I know our High Majestic King and Queen [ the titles spoken with a hint of irony ] don't seem to care always how old someone is or how much experience you've with weapons or fighting when they decide to claim you. Whatever you think of this war, whether you'd rather run right into the Void right now or wait for it to come to you, everyone here should have the skills to unlock their own strength. It's better that you've the ability to jam a knife into a man's eyeball and never have to do it than find yourself at the end of an attacker's blade with no way to get out of it. You shouldn't have to rely on anyone else.

So I'll teach you if you've no experience of your own. I usually teach young girls—children—but I'll not turn my back if you need it. That includes how to use your shard—the thing that Seelie will try to take right out of your chest.

[ She moves to close the locket—then halts, fumbles, and picks something off the ground to hold flat in her palm to show anyone watching. ]

It's not a particularly attractive baby turtle, but...

There's no duck to it. Yet, anyway. I wouldn't be surprised it if suddenly sprouted feathers, knowing this place.

[ no offense to the little baby turtle, but its face isn't as attractive as the turtle ducks from home. zuko may be completely biased toward them, given what they mean to him, but he thinks baby turtle ducks are actually quite cute. but he acts more like he would when he was a child, sitting by the pond with his mother. ]

[ his voice is softer, even if, at times, his tone turns a little melodramatic. ] Turtle ducks don't have feathers. They're not born looking like that. I've seen them! They have the shell of your turtle, but not its face. And they're brown, not green. Their shell's the only thing that's green.

I don't think I've seen your turtle ducks anywhere, Zuko. Neither here, nor in my Middluns nor anywhere else.

[ She's almost apologetic as she shakes her head. ]

But I'd imagine given all the other sorts of ridiculous creatures that exist here there must be something like what you mean.

[ neither has he. but he appreciates the sentiment. for the years he's spent here, he's still searching for that turtle duck. but he supposes he does reach his destination and finds the greatest turtle duck of them all. ]

Do you have turtles in the Middluns?

Yes, near rivers and lakes. They’re bigger than this, but still small. They can make a meal in a pinch.

I don’t know about other kingdoms where I’m from, though. I’ve not had a chance to travel there as much as I would like, before I came to this place.
