Well, now that that silver nonsense seems to be sorted out, I think we need to start talking about things we can actually fight back when they attack us.

I know our High Majestic King and Queen [ the titles spoken with a hint of irony ] don't seem to care always how old someone is or how much experience you've with weapons or fighting when they decide to claim you. Whatever you think of this war, whether you'd rather run right into the Void right now or wait for it to come to you, everyone here should have the skills to unlock their own strength. It's better that you've the ability to jam a knife into a man's eyeball and never have to do it than find yourself at the end of an attacker's blade with no way to get out of it. You shouldn't have to rely on anyone else.

So I'll teach you if you've no experience of your own. I usually teach young girls—children—but I'll not turn my back if you need it. That includes how to use your shard—the thing that Seelie will try to take right out of your chest.

I think you would do, if you're really willing to take on a student who's not young and female. That's training I'm lacking in.

It's only that the young and female are usually those with the least access to the sort of things I have to teach, in my experience, not that I've any sort of rule about it. You're neither of those things, but I can still show you what I know easily enough. No reason for broken hearts of any sort if you've every option to protect yourself that you can have.

The way you talk about broken hearts makes you sound like a fighter and a lover.

The when and where are at your convenience, as is whatever you wish for in return for your training.

I don't talk about broken hearts in any particular way, and there's no reason they should be exclusive from each other.

I don't wish anything but the knowledge that everyone has the skills they might one day find themselves needing. If enough people wish it I might try to gather all of you in a larger group if possible, but if not, where might I find you?

'Tame' would be a generous word. It's more like he inclines himself to help me from time to time.

He's fast. It's not instant travel, but you get where you're going before your heart gives out.
