VISUAL ; SEELIE LOCKED.
[ when the visual feed starts, there’s a bright green snout poking at the locket, and korra’s voice can be heard in the background — soft, encouraging. “it’s how we keep in contact, rizhao,” she says. satisfied, the dragon slithers away to mako — currently sitting on the floor with a conspicuous collection of bowls of black powder, paper tubes, and clay — and climbs right on top of him, all thirty feet of her piled on his shoulders, looped under his arms, and all over his lap. the locket swings around, catching a glimpse of one asami sato at a carved wooden table, looking over some small parts that look like clockwork gears with a hand to her chin. she seems Very Interested in what she’s doing, so we’ll leave her alone for now and get to the focus of what this post is really about:
korra comes into view, fixing the angle of the locket before setting it down. she’s about to start talking when a great white head comes into view, and naga drops herself down next to korra, chin on the girl’s lap. as korra relaxes, she begins to address the network, ]
I hope everyone’s feeling better — did anyone find out what caused that silver stuff to spread? How it got started? There seemed to be a lot of different cures, but…
[ that’s not really what she wanted to talk about, so she lets that thought drift off, leaning back and drawing her hand between naga’s ears for a second before she continues. ]
We’ve got a lot of new people, don’t we. [ and she doesn’t seem happy about that, oh no. ] My name is Korra, you can find me out on the Western Road if you ever need to travel to Redgate or the University — but you don’t wanna go to Daonna, trust me. You’re more likely to end up dead than actually accomplishing anything.
[ she’s really no good at this, this talking off-the-cuff thing. maybe she should’ve written this all down beforehand… ]
Look, I don’t know how much everyone else has been told, but I do know that Queen Solais isn’t in the sharing type when it comes to what the Seelie court’s objective is. Sure, they say it’s “justice and the order of nature,” but I think it’s important that everyone knows what that means. No dancing around the subject, no ducking the harsh reality.
There’s a Void out there and it’s eating away at the world — all worlds. It signals the end of everything that we know, and it’s our job as Seelie shardholders to let it run its course. [ she adds quickly, trying to be reassuring; ] I know that sounds scary. No one likes thinking about the “end,” no matter what the “end” is, but it’s important to realize that everything has an end, just as everything has a beginning.
[ she takes in a breath and sits up straighter. korra reeeeally hates talking about all this philosophical mumbo-jumbo, so the fact that she’s even trying speaks volumes about how important she feels this is. ]
My teachers taught me that everything comes in cycles. Spring to summer, to fall, to winter; old years to new. Even an Avatar’s life isn’t forever — we have to protect ourselves and our Avatar spirit so that the next Avatar can balance and change the world as they see fit.
This Void — it’s not the end of everything, it’s just the end of this cycle, and it’s important that we keep it intact. From this end, new worlds will form; maybe even our own worlds again. I don’t know how many worlds are familiar with ‘reincarnation,’ but where I’m from, it’s real, and I believe the worlds eaten by the Void will come back. Maybe in different forms, maybe the same. It’s important to remember that this is something that will benefit every world that we come from.
[ her fingers curl at naga’s crown, and the polar beardog lets out a soft whine at korra’s sudden tensing. tipping her big head back, naga licks at korra’s face, and korra rests a hand against her dog’s cheek. ]
The Unseelie don’t see it that way. The court’s main objective is killing every Seelie from every world, regardless of whether they can stop the Void or not. They think all life is precious except for those who disagree with them. [ there’s venom seeping into korra’s voice at that, and it’s clear exactly how she feels about the unseelie ideals. ] I heard from someone in the Unseelie court just what they planned on doing, so if you know anyone in the Unseelie court, that won’t protect you. If they win, you’re dead, and that’s it, that’s the end. No chance of you being reborn in your world again because if the cycle doesn’t continue, I believe that every world will eventually die. [ korra has no way of proving this, but this is what she fears. if the unseelie win and interrupt the cycle, if the natural order gets corrupted, then what happens? do things just peter out? or does everything go on to become stagnant. ] Change can bring about balance or it can destroy everything we believe in and want to protect. Change is good, and sometimes, change is necessary — but not like this.
A lot of the Unseelie are probably scared of the Void, and I’d believe that some of the Seelie are, too. [ korra is, though she won’t admit that. ] I know the natives are. Some kill shardbearers, a lot of them are in Daonna. They’re scared of the Void and scared of us, so if you meet any Drabwurld natives, please don’t give them a reason to hurt you. Some of them will still try and you should defend yourselves against them… but a lot of them just want to live their lives as peacefully as they can in spite of the war going on around them.
[ silence falls between her and naga, and in the background, the dragon picks up her head and trills softly in korra’s direction; a gentle whalesong. ]
I think I flapped my gums enough, but if anyone has questions, I’ll answer them.

Had. Past tense. Thor and Odin stopped the cycle.
no subject
You... You up for talking about it?
no subject
[His tone makes it clear that he is not fond of this revelation, but he forces a smile.]
What do you want to know?

[He snorts.]
Cycles repeat, nothing changes, no matter how we try. I was present at the last Ragnarok. I saw the Lords of Asgard fall. And my father saw the same before, and before, a cycle that repeated itself without fail for eons.
No, I cannot support that. Not after Thor, my friend and brother in arms, fought so hard to stop it.
no subject
Besides, regardless of who's right and who's wrong, if there even is a right and wrong (because Hercules and Korra, they're both speaking from experience, aren't they? and it's already been established that there are different worlds and it makes sense that each world has its individual rules), he doesn't really know that he agrees with what the Court seems to want. ]
What happened? I mean, obviously, the cycle is bad. At least for you. It didn't seem that bad for Korra, but... I'm gonna guess she wasn't going through Ragnarok. Different worlds. But how--
[ He has to stop, pause, and think carefully about what he says. This is Hercules's life he's talking about, and Herc's friend's. He can't just treat it like something else to research. That, he'll do on his own. ]
What are you going to do? Are you-- You're not gonna... Merida said that Solais took her friend's titles abilities just because they questioned her. What if that happens to you?
no subject
[Herc's voice trembles, a basso rumble deep in his chest?]
Ragnarok. The end of days. It happens every so often, heralding the end of an Asgardian age and bringing death and ruin to Odin's folk. In exactly the same way, every time. I...fought for them, beside them. But no matter what I did, I could change nothing. I could kill a hundred giants, tie Jormungander into a knot, and still the cycle would repeat. My friends would die, and by the grace of Odin be reborn.
[He takes a seat on the ground, arms folded.]
Odin and Thor did something, though. They broke free of the cycle, they shattered it and rewrote things. And Asgard has been able to change. To not repeat the same mistakes that they did in the past. To move on and become something more. Something different.
[He looks up now, eyes clouded with a hazy, like he's looking at something very, very far away.]
I'm not going to question her, no. I am no fool, boy. I do not know what I will do, but...I know that I cannot and will not act to continue a cycle that will change nothing. I need information, first. I will...play along...for the moment.
[He snorts.]
It's not as though I have much choice, do I?
no subject
But he knows his nightmares, where he watches his family fall to their deaths night after night and he always tries to save them and he always fails. Or when it's the faces of Bruce, Alfred, and his friends falling, and he can't catch them before they hit the pavement. He relives the mission where he watched everyone die, where he sent his friends to their deaths, and every time he dreams it he tells himself it'll be different, and every time he dreams it, he sees no choice but to kill them all again.
How much worse is it when Hercules has to live like that? ]
None of us have much choice. ...You're not alone though, okay? Like, your team might not be here, but you've got friends. And... [ He lowers his voice a bit. ] Thor's here. That's good too. So no matter what you end up doing, you'll have support in it.
[ He sighs, drawing a leg up to his chest. ]
I don't know. I'm doing research, a lot of it, and I can share that with you if you want. But at least for me, I don't... I don't think restarting the world's the way to go about doing things. I'm kind of eh on the whole cyclical, death-rebirth thing. But I'm--we're here. Like, Seelie. Why?
no subject
My team, my family, it doesn’t matter which of them was here or not. None of them would agree with this, because it’s foolish. Breaking the cycles is the only way to make real changes. Restarting accomplishes nothing but the same old thing, cycle in and cycle out. If you do find something, please tell me. I’d rather find a third path, another option, but I’ve not the head for such matters.
[He shakes his head once more.] And I have no idea why we came. Perhaps the Unseelie simply were not fast enough on the draw., as they say. Or perhaps it’s balance. Who can say save the monarchs.
no subject
Hey, maybe with Thor on one side, they need you on the other. Like you said, for balance and stuff.
[ It's too hopeful to be possible, though, and Dick's smile wavers a bit before it falls. ]
I don't like the idea either. I'm... I'm trying to figure something else out too, but I haven't seen any other possibilities. Like, one is just flat-out "don't fight" but that doesn't hold up, not really. It's... By not doing anything, you're supporting everything you disagree with. And I'm not gonna stand by to watch people get hurt if I can help it. Not on either side, and especially not the natives.
No one really knows enough about the Void either. Like... Is it actually part of this? I heard that... I heard that the rebirth comes when all the shards are reunited. But is that the same as if the Void eats everything?
no subject
[Herc's head hangs, but he slips an arm around Dick amiably. They are friends, after all, and it's good to know there's someone else that understands.]
As for...not doing anything? Nay, I cannot do that either. I think perhaps it may be best if we adopt the role my dear half sister would take in the conflict for now. [Because as angry as he was at Athena, he could not forget how she'd been there for him, and how wise she truly was.]
We do need more information on the Void, that's what she would say. But...she would also stand up and fight. Which we should do. Only...to protect, defend. To...Avenge.
[He definitely includes the capital A there. That's important.]
no subject
That's what I've decided to do: protect and defend. It's what I've always done. Civilian safety first, the natives here. Keep them out of the fight, protect them and keep them safe as well as I can... Avenging, that's more... That's personal, isn't it? It's right on the edge of revenge.
[ And he knows how that goes. Dick hesitates briefly, then goes on. ]
I'm gonna go back to Leathann soonish. Gonna meet someone there to check out the Void.
no subject
[Herc waves a hand.]
Avenging is what the Avengers do. Protect the innocent, keep the peace whereever possible, and take the brunt of villainy so that the civilians don't have to. That's what we do.
[He's never been quite sure why they'd given it than name tho]
And are you? I'd be interested in seeing it, myself.
no subject
[ That makes a lot more sense. ]
You wanna come with? I wouldn't mind.
no subject
Aye, I would. I want to see what it is we're up against. One way or another...the Void is at the center of it all.
