VISUAL ; SEELIE LOCKED.
[ when the visual feed starts, there’s a bright green snout poking at the locket, and korra’s voice can be heard in the background — soft, encouraging. “it’s how we keep in contact, rizhao,” she says. satisfied, the dragon slithers away to mako — currently sitting on the floor with a conspicuous collection of bowls of black powder, paper tubes, and clay — and climbs right on top of him, all thirty feet of her piled on his shoulders, looped under his arms, and all over his lap. the locket swings around, catching a glimpse of one asami sato at a carved wooden table, looking over some small parts that look like clockwork gears with a hand to her chin. she seems Very Interested in what she’s doing, so we’ll leave her alone for now and get to the focus of what this post is really about:
korra comes into view, fixing the angle of the locket before setting it down. she’s about to start talking when a great white head comes into view, and naga drops herself down next to korra, chin on the girl’s lap. as korra relaxes, she begins to address the network, ]
I hope everyone’s feeling better — did anyone find out what caused that silver stuff to spread? How it got started? There seemed to be a lot of different cures, but…
[ that’s not really what she wanted to talk about, so she lets that thought drift off, leaning back and drawing her hand between naga’s ears for a second before she continues. ]
We’ve got a lot of new people, don’t we. [ and she doesn’t seem happy about that, oh no. ] My name is Korra, you can find me out on the Western Road if you ever need to travel to Redgate or the University — but you don’t wanna go to Daonna, trust me. You’re more likely to end up dead than actually accomplishing anything.
[ she’s really no good at this, this talking off-the-cuff thing. maybe she should’ve written this all down beforehand… ]
Look, I don’t know how much everyone else has been told, but I do know that Queen Solais isn’t in the sharing type when it comes to what the Seelie court’s objective is. Sure, they say it’s “justice and the order of nature,” but I think it’s important that everyone knows what that means. No dancing around the subject, no ducking the harsh reality.
There’s a Void out there and it’s eating away at the world — all worlds. It signals the end of everything that we know, and it’s our job as Seelie shardholders to let it run its course. [ she adds quickly, trying to be reassuring; ] I know that sounds scary. No one likes thinking about the “end,” no matter what the “end” is, but it’s important to realize that everything has an end, just as everything has a beginning.
[ she takes in a breath and sits up straighter. korra reeeeally hates talking about all this philosophical mumbo-jumbo, so the fact that she’s even trying speaks volumes about how important she feels this is. ]
My teachers taught me that everything comes in cycles. Spring to summer, to fall, to winter; old years to new. Even an Avatar’s life isn’t forever — we have to protect ourselves and our Avatar spirit so that the next Avatar can balance and change the world as they see fit.
This Void — it’s not the end of everything, it’s just the end of this cycle, and it’s important that we keep it intact. From this end, new worlds will form; maybe even our own worlds again. I don’t know how many worlds are familiar with ‘reincarnation,’ but where I’m from, it’s real, and I believe the worlds eaten by the Void will come back. Maybe in different forms, maybe the same. It’s important to remember that this is something that will benefit every world that we come from.
[ her fingers curl at naga’s crown, and the polar beardog lets out a soft whine at korra’s sudden tensing. tipping her big head back, naga licks at korra’s face, and korra rests a hand against her dog’s cheek. ]
The Unseelie don’t see it that way. The court’s main objective is killing every Seelie from every world, regardless of whether they can stop the Void or not. They think all life is precious except for those who disagree with them. [ there’s venom seeping into korra’s voice at that, and it’s clear exactly how she feels about the unseelie ideals. ] I heard from someone in the Unseelie court just what they planned on doing, so if you know anyone in the Unseelie court, that won’t protect you. If they win, you’re dead, and that’s it, that’s the end. No chance of you being reborn in your world again because if the cycle doesn’t continue, I believe that every world will eventually die. [ korra has no way of proving this, but this is what she fears. if the unseelie win and interrupt the cycle, if the natural order gets corrupted, then what happens? do things just peter out? or does everything go on to become stagnant. ] Change can bring about balance or it can destroy everything we believe in and want to protect. Change is good, and sometimes, change is necessary — but not like this.
A lot of the Unseelie are probably scared of the Void, and I’d believe that some of the Seelie are, too. [ korra is, though she won’t admit that. ] I know the natives are. Some kill shardbearers, a lot of them are in Daonna. They’re scared of the Void and scared of us, so if you meet any Drabwurld natives, please don’t give them a reason to hurt you. Some of them will still try and you should defend yourselves against them… but a lot of them just want to live their lives as peacefully as they can in spite of the war going on around them.
[ silence falls between her and naga, and in the background, the dragon picks up her head and trills softly in korra’s direction; a gentle whalesong. ]
I think I flapped my gums enough, but if anyone has questions, I’ll answer them.

visual;
The Void's the common enemy, right? I was trying to figure this out with Hermione too, but, like... If the Void eats everything, everything is gone. If the Seelie win, everything's gone too. What's the difference?
no subject
[ she says so with a lopsided grin, before continuing. ]
Well... no. I think the Seelie are fighting on a side with the Void, to let nature run its course. This world's time is over, and new ones will take over. The Seelie want everything to start over again; the Unseelie just care about themselves.
no subject
I dunno, man. That's kinda...over-simplifying it a bit, isn't it? And, like, how long is a cycle supposed to be? This war, they've been fighting it forever, haven't they? Why stop now? And... And reincarnation, I mean, if your world has it you're already more in-the-know than I am, since if we've got it, we don't remember our pasts at all, but ... But like, Korra, that's still someone new, isn't it?

Hey pal, my time as the Avatar's just beginning. The next guy's gonna have to wait about fifty years before they get their chance.
no subject
[ see, this is why she doesn't like talking about this stuff so much. she's not so good with the wording; she's better with the fighting. ]
I guess you could say it's... like a book, or a mover. They all have stories that have to end, and then you can go onto a new one. [ she shakes her head quickly. no no no, this is coming out all wrong. ] I'm not trying to stop the war, I know that's impossible. But I wanna make sure people know what they're fighting for.

I've been here two years and I couldn't answer all those questions. [ because information is scattered. what dick knows — what hermione knows, what nico knows, what merida knows — it's all that anyone knows so far. ]
If they disagree, they can choose their own path to follow while they're here. [ she believes firmly in personal freedoms, which is why the unseelie court ticks her off so much. they don't get asked, they get kidnapped, they get forced into this war.
korra draws her lower lip into her mouth for a second before: ] You wanna do another favor for me?
no subject
[ It's instantaneous. He may or may not agree with the goals of the Seelie court (and right now, it's leaning more heavily towards not), but Korra hasn't steered him wrong yet and she's obviously trying to help and really, if there's anything he can do...
He's willing to do it for her. ]
Whaddya need?
no subject
[ her tone is hopeful — not confident. two very different things. ]
You might need access to any restricted sections they've got set up, but my friend Mako knows the librarian, so he might be able to pull some strings for you. [ beat ] ...Maybe.
[ beat... ]
He can try.
no subject
[ Research is something he's good at, anyway. ]
Hey, so, I'm working on a write-up of what I learned from Hermione, Nico, and Merida, and Hermione wanted a copy. You want one too? I mean, it's really probably gonna be nothing new, and it's mostly just gonna be like... What I asked, what they told me. But it might be convenient...?

no subject
Uh.
[ This is a really ahahahaha :'D;;; sort of laugh. ]
So... I'm gonna be down in Leathann in a couple days...
no subject
Okay. [ c u r i o u s ] Be careful with the natives; help them when you can. Don't get too close to the Void...
Give Marey a break...?
[ WHY U CAGEY, DICK ]
no subject
Not the Marey part, I know that. She's getting both a break and lots of exercise now. But uh, the part before that...
[ He knows it's not a good idea. And yet. ]

Don't go near the Void.
no subject
no subject
Don't do it.
no subject
I'm not going alone. It'll be okay, I'm not going to risk Marey or Herc.
no subject
it's why korra's so terrified of it. ]
Just... Promise me you'll stay a day's journey away from it. [ that might seem really far, but that's how far she was when the pyrii disappeared, and she could still see enough. spirits, was she this stubborn when she was fourteen? (spoilers: yeah, and she was probably worse.) ]
no subject
...Hey. We'll be okay. Promise.
[ He hesitates, then goes on, softer. ]
Can you tell me what happened?
no subject
see: this very conversation. ]
Not on these. [ she gives the locket a shake, knocking around the picture for a moment. ] Did you buy a compass from Hermione?
no subject
[ No one mentioned anything about compasses. ]
I have a compass, even if it doesn't work outside the Station. The Sun works for that. ...Also, I don't need a compass to tell what direction the Void is.
no subject
You'll need this kind of compass.
no subject
I'll swing by the Citadel again. Do you know how much Hermione sells them for? Cause, like. I have the gold you gave me and that's it.
