[ It's safe to say that Ariadne has never been this upset about anything in her entire life. She tends to smile, with large, gentle eyes. She does not tend to look murderous.

She does today.

Her trust has been broken, betrayed. Her people have been caught in the storm that Reynard started. Her mind has been violated, her companion dead.

When she speaks, her voice starts out calm. Cold. ]

So. When were we all going to start sharing what we know about the Cult of the Fox?

[ A breath and then she snarls. ]

Because it turns out they're wearing shard masks that let them look like anyone and they can get into your memories and mind control you to the point that you'll hang yourself.

[ It takes a tremendous amount of effort not to throw something. ]

That lying little fuck and those like him know how to use shards even when they're masks. If we don't stop sitting on our information then they're going to tear us apart from the inside. Do not trust anyone without- somehow verifying it's them, though I don't know how when they can do that much.

If you're staying at Diasbaile -- get to work or get out. I don't know how many people might still be under his spell but he's destroyed wards and rooms on the top two floors, read what was in my office if he didn't just steal it.

Everyone- be on your guard. And share your information, because otherwise we're all fighting this blind and then everyone is dead.

You need to get out of the Station. Just in case. Bucky's with me, he- we're not okay, he was with me when it happened, neither of us remember anything after a point. But we'll look after each other; he at least knows I'm me.

Gaff died in the Battle of Falling Fire. It was a cultist all along. Grell, can you watch Diasbaile? I can only assume that he'll know what I would do, but he didn't get in your head.

Don't leave your spire. They aren't going to be fucking stupid enough to strike the same spot twice.

And you're going to do what, go after him?

Did you activate your shard in all of this?

New rule: don't activate your shards around the Cult. It's too fucking risky. Period.

Also you're nothing short of suicidal for wanting to go after them. Do you think they don't know how to fight shardbearers? It's their specialty. What they're trained to do, and they are effective. You do this, and you risk everything you've built in the Drabwurld up to and including Morla's favor. Think before you at, rather than run on stupid impulse, Ariadne. You have people that need you to look after them rather than go after your death.

[Waver breathes out.]

I have information, but I can't confirm how much is true and how much is rumour.

I heard, some time ago, from an individual involved with the investigation of the Oracle of Leathann's murder. An Unseelie shardbearer was discovered to be the one who held the knife. Removed her eyes, tongue, and blood, all while she was still alive for a ritual purpose. Goal is thought to be to raise a god to combat the Void itself. Take that as you will.

You know about Clarke and Bellamy's investigation into the Cult and how it ended. I would wager that some of that factored into why you were attacked - you've been providing them safe harbour. But I'm inclined to look at where your prisoner was, and imagine that the goal might've been Caer Glaem as well and you just changed who was getting attacked. It's the Cult after all, and they're equal opportunity.

Other points of interest: someone looked into the hangings in Daonna. Murdered shardbearers were generally those who abused natives. But this is where we bring in Martin Maskmaker.

There was a man in Daonna named Damrtin who used to run a place called Trouble is my Business. Impossible spells, spell ingredients and ancient artifacts, s on. Supporter of Reynard, and no longer there. My contact suggested a connection, but it is tenuous at best.

Multiple sources have told me Martin belonged to a court that is no longer a part of the Drabwurld - long defeated, and lying dead. Some legends name him as the first shardbearer from 55,000 years ago, and that he was so sick of the war that he made himself a mask to put himself to sleep.

One of my sources has found a suggestion that the Martin Maskmaker engaged with the Cult might not be the man himself - just someone using the name for currency, and making the masks for the Cult in order to help the illusion along. It's a nice piece of propaganda to have someone with Martin's legend helping your cause.

Do not ever name me as your source.

Ariadne, even with all of that you might not have understood separate strands of information until they converged. I certainty didn't until now. It is the eternal risk with intelligence. Somethings will only make sense in retrospect.

[Waver does not respond to the anger. It has no purpose being flung around. It must be channeled into smooth, concise, deliberate action, or be discarded as useless.]

So we must look at two questions here and now: what did they gain from targeting you, and how do you become your opposite and thus impossible to predict?

Could be the closeness to Morla. Could be the fact that you have so many shrines at the spire. Could be the connection to Clarke and Bellamy. Could be the prestige of it. The last one I'm inclined to discount. They want something you have, but what?

--Morla.

They might need something she has. You're close to her. Trojan horse.

Their perspective isn't wrong. The minute one loses their shard is the minute the court boots them out.

Whatever they're after is in Caer Scima or in Morla's grasp. Do what you think is best.

You are angry, and rightfully so.

Use it productively from here on out.
